Advanced Academics Action Items
PSAT and PSAT 8 scores are available for students online and will be uploaded to eduphoria as soon as we receive the district DAT file. Be on the lookout for a letter to share with students/parents the week of December 4. Letter will be shared with counselors on December 5. Texas Core In an effort to increase the number of students who enroll in advanced academic courses, Hays CISD is beginning an awareness campaign in regard to the Texas Core. The Texas Core Refers to 42 hours of college coursework considered to be the core of curriculum for associate’s and bachelor’s degrees at any state college or university in Texas. A list of all teachers within the district who need to complete training can be viewed at THIS LINK. This is for informational purposes, please do not share the spreadsheet with teachers. The first tab of the spreadsheet is a list of all teachers needing training. Please do not make changes to the first tab. For your individual campus, click on the tab at the bottom. Training was due by November 30. I will have all courses graded and the spreadsheet updated by the end of today. Principals should meet with teachers who did not complete their training by the deadline and complete a Corrective Action Plan to show how the teacher will complete their training by December 15, the end of the semester. Fingerprinting Requirements Deadline December 15, 2023 If you have been previously notified that you are required to be fingerprinted or have your fingerprints updated, the deadline is quickly approaching! To update and maintain a safe and secure system, it is crucial that employees meet the fingerprinting requirements. If you fail to meet this deadline: ○ You cannot return to work after December 15, 2023, until you have met the requirements. ○ You will need to use your personal leave until you meet the fingerprinting requirements. ○ Employees that need to complete this requirement were initially notified in April 2023 and have received monthly reminders. Student Services Campus PBIS, SEL, and Behavior Management Students thrive when they know what to expect each day. Set consistent times for lessons, activities, and breaks. This helps students mentally prepare for the day and creates a sense of structure that promotes engagement and focus. As teachers know, a classroom can quickly get off-track without effective behavior management. A well-managed classroom sets the stage for impactful teaching and learning. This is especially true as we approach holidays and return from holidays. Structured rules, systems, and structures ensure that students and families understand classroom and campus norms and know what to expect when those norms are not met. By consistently implementing behavior management best practices, teachers and school leaders can encourage a sense of agency in students, find a balance in the classroom, and promote positive school culture.
We also all know that our teachers will need your support in implementing this.
Critical Leadership Moves Successfully getting students to come to school starts at the top. When campus principals and their leadership team have a visible focus on attendance, it is proven to have a positive impact on student attendance increasing. What are you doing to emphasize the importance of student attendance on your campus? Help our students know that coming to school up until the holiday is very important!
