In May we get to celebrate the accomplishments of the graduating high school and college graduates. Come out on May 15 to the traditional service to show your love and support for our graduating youth! We will have a processional during the ser-vice, and a luncheon after for those seniors and their families. May Sermon Series The Season of Easter The Easter season lasts for 50 days, from April 17 to June 5. During this time we think of several wonderful themes: God’s great victory as He miraculously brings life from death and joy from sorrow, God’s self-giving love for us, and Christ’s em-powering of us to be His hands and feet in a hurting world. May 8 Mother’s Day Holy Communion “The Lord Is My Shepherd” Psalm 23, Revelation 7:9-17 Today is Mother’s Day, and it is also “Shepherd Sunday”. We are reminded of the great, nurturing care Jesus takes of His sheep, and we give thanks for the nurtur-ing care of our mothers. May 15 Senior Sunday “If It Came Natural, It Wouldn’t Be a Commandment” Acts 11:1-18, John 13:31-35 Today we honor our seniors, and we think of Jesus’ commandment to love one another. May 22
“Repentance, Forgiveness, and Jesus” Acts 1:1-11 Luke 24:44-53 Today we think of the lovely gifts of grace given by Jesus: the gift of repentance, and the gift of forgiveness. Today is also Dr. Monica’s last Sunday with us. We thank her for her excellent ministry among us. We will miss her! May 29 “Singing in Chains” Acts 16:16-34 Sometimes we find ourselves in chains, as it were. Today’s lesson suggests the power of singing praise to God when we are in a jam.

Church Picnic Thank you to all who supported and enjoyed being together at WEF this spring. Let’s all celebrate together with a church picnic on Wednesday, May 11, 2022. The men will cook hot dogs and hamburgers and we’ll add baked beans, cole slaw, potato chips and cookies. This is a FREE EVENT for all, but we need to know how to plan so please register by using the link below or calling the church office by 5 PM on FRIDAY, May 6. We’ll stick with the 5:15-6:15 serving time and if you would like to help, please contact Carol Lloyd at 910-988-1803. If the weather is nice, we’ll have tables inside and outside. Bring a blanket or a chair if you want to enjoy the spring weather on the back lawn. If it’s raining then we’ll eat inside.

HUMC Retreat Recap On April 2, Haymount UMC's Church Council met for a half day of intentional and prayerful planning for our congregation. We had several focus areas, and I want to share these with the congregation. Focus Area: Refine our mission and vision statements to be more concise and easy to share with others and to remember. Our values should be central to all our decisions and efforts. Mission: Making disciples of Jesus Christ. Vision: To glorfy God by bringing hope and healing to all. Identity Statement: Haymount United Methodist Church exists to glorify God and make disciples by bringing hope and healing to all. Values: God-first, Relationships, Acceptance, Compassion, Equipping (GRACE) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Focus Area: Consideration of strategies to attract new people to Haymount, to welcome new people to Haymount once they attend, and to involve all (both new and long term members) in the ministries of Haymount. •
A Marketing Committee will be developed to look at an overall multi-channel marketing plan to increase Haymount's visibility to the community. • Continue to offer ministry programs and events which demonstrate our values and intentionally connect new attendees, while also re-engaging current members into the life of the church. We will assess gaps in programming, and work on strategies to insure we are fulfilling our vision. • Utilizing tools such as the spiritual gifts assessment, ministry surveys, and the discipleship map to review all our offerings and provide easy ways for people to become involved. • Increase communications and transparency to the entire congregation regarding the work of the Council and its various committees. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Focus Area: Work closely with the Staff Parrish Relations Committee with regard to priority areas for staffing purposes, especially as it relates to the Director of Christian Education position, to insure alignment with Church Council's focus. As the pastoral leadership transitions at HUMC, and we plan for the departure of Dorothy Funkhouser, consideration to the overall staffing structure and roles needed to effectively fulfill our mission and vision is underway. ___________________________________________________________________ I am grateful to the dedication of the members of Church Council and their shared love and devotion to serving our Lord through the work of Haymount United Methodist Church. Charlotte Lane Missions Art Fundraiser If you have ever seen or received an HUMC notecard with a sketch of the church, then you've seen a classic piece of Charlotte Lane's artwork! Charlotte, a long time HUMC member, is now 96 years old and living in Swansboro. Charlotte has graciously offered Haymount the last of her paintings for a silent auction to benefit missions. Reaching Souls with Soles - A "Hands Up" Ministry YOU helped Partners in Ministry (PIM), a UMC National Mission Institution in Laurinburg, embark upon a campus expansion to build a 20,000 square foot multipur-pose center to continue to support the health and well-being of thousands of children, youth, and families. Your shoes added to other UMW units, totaled 23,875 pairs which will provide families in 26 developing nations a way to support themselves. PIM received $9000 for all these shoes. It is amazing how God works through small acts such as our slightly used shoes being shared with people in far away places. Thank you for helping with this project. Musical Notes Dear Haymount UMC Family, It has been a privilege to serve as your Director of Traditional Music & Organist. During the last two years, we have survived the COVID-19 pandemic and continued to praise God through music. The Chancel Choir has the most dedi-cated members that I have ever worked with. They wore uncomfortable masks for nine months to share the joy of music in worship. The HUMC Ringers gained four new members, and the group shares music throughout the liturgical year. It is wonderful to see our next generation of young leaders serving in worship by participating in liturgical dance, youth handbells, and children’s worship arts. Two of the highlights of my music ministry at HUMC is the installation of the Argo~Aycock Concert Series and the Möller Pipe Organ restoration by Tom Lewtak. The inaugural year of the concert series has featured four wonderful concerts, which highlighted regional musicians and my colleagues. My hope is that this series will provide music to the Fayetteville community for years to come. The organ restoration began before I arrived on staff, and I have enjoyed watching the process. The Möller organ is a wonderful investment in the future of worship, and I have loved playing it! Please accept my sincerest thanks for your welcome and allowing me to serve in the music ministry. I appreciate your understanding that I need to do what is best for my son in his life. I look forward to seeing wonderful things happen at HUMC. Please keep the search committee in your prayers as they seek God’s will in choosing the next director to serve in music ministry.
