In May, we naturally turn our attention to adolescents and young adults because of major life-cycle celebrations such as graduations and weddings. It seems a perfect time to spend a few weeks celebrating the perspectives of young people of faith. We enjoy hearing the many voices of young adults. Young adults have a perspective that is as varied as older generations’, but it is a perspective that is uniquely theirs. Listening enthusiastically empowers them and enriches all of us. Young
Adults appreciate it when Xers and Boomers take a break from telling them what they ought to think, feel, and value and instead let them tell us. (As a Boomer parent, I admit that I sometimes find this challenging!) To this end, we have an engaging month planned. In early April, we sent a survey to Haymounters between the ages of 15-45 asking them to indicate the things which concerned them most. On May 2 in the NLC from 12:15-1:15 folks between the ages of 15-45 will have lunch together and share their perspective (if you are in that age group, please go to haymountumc. com to register for childcare and lunch selection, or to register for virtual participation). HUMW - SHOES! Reaching Souls with Soles: A "Hands Up" Ministry Share your slightly used or new shoes with the NCC United Methodist Women and support Partners in Ministry (PIM), a National Mission Institution in Laurinburg which gives a "hand up" for many struggling families. Haymount UMC and Haymount UMW already support PIM financially. We are accepting men's, women's and children's shoes. Please place the shoes in the box under the desk outside the office.

Teacher Appreciation - May 16 As the school year ends, we want to thank all our teachers for their hard work and love through this crazy year. Our preschool teachers will receive a special thank you on May 14. Our Sunday School teachers and K-12 educators can pick up their special treats in the Apples located in the lobby of the New Life Center before the 9:45 service or in the breezeway after the 11:00 service. HUMC Yard Sale Barb Overman, Karen Barkman, Kim Feldmeyer, Laurie Doherty, Pat Trujillo, and Ginny Lloyd worked hard to prepare items for the yard sale. Proceeds from this sale went to Liberia for PPE, to our missionary Ellyn Dubberly in Central America, and to our missionaries Dr and Dr Fogleman (who work in a number of countries in Africa) to make available as medical scholarships.

Children's Easter Celebration Thank you, church family, for your generosity and immense love for our children and our Risen Lord. The children experienced abundance at the Easter Celebration this year because of your lavish donations of filled Easter eggs. So many children were blessed by these gifts, and the sense of the love of church family was deeply instilled in each child who reaped the harvest! Until next year - then we'll do it again! Thank you!

Wonderful Wednesdays June's Wonderful Wednesday Get-Aways • For kids who will have completed Kindergarten Fifth Grade • Each Wednesday we will get away to cool and special places to celebrate our God in His gracious generosity. Here are our destinations: June 2nd - Putt Putt Fun Center June 9th - The Climbing Place June 16th - Museum of Life and Science in Durham June 23rd - Greg's Pottery & Movie at the Omni June 30th - Aloha Safari Zoo in Sanford We will travel by church vans, so registration numbers are limited to 20 students. Costs will vary and will be posted on the church website on the registration page.

Musical Notes Dear Haymount UMC Family, Thank you to those that serve in music ministry; your dedication during Holy Week and Easter enhanced our worship. It is hard to believe that the month of May is here. The Kingdom Kids will sing in worship on Mother’s Day. During April, the children began ukulele lessons. I am thankful for my colleagues, Drew Ellis and Andrew Sánchez and volunteer, Diane Helfrich. They gave of their time to teach our children this fun instrument. Calling All Singers! The summer is the perfect time to try out The Chancel Choir. We rehearse on Wednesdays at 6:00pm. The summer pieces are a little easier, and this group will make you feel at home. If you worry that you cannot commit to weekly rehearsals and Sunday services, we want you to join us at your availiabity. We have a couple of “snowbirds,” and I recognize weekly commitments can be difficult with personal schedules. Come and join us!

The Book of Discipline, revised every four years by General Conference, is the denomination’s operating manual, outlining how the church carries out its work, how we live out our faith in practice as United Methodists, and the many things we believe. For this month’s newsletter article, allow me to share with you the Social Creed of the UMC. Derived from the social principles, this brief summary statement packs in a lot of information about who we are as United Methodists!

Update from our Scouts Submitted by Tanner Quismundo I walked up to Honeycut Park for my last signature, confident I created a successful and quality eagle project of a little library. I’m not the only one three other Eagle Scout projects have been finished in the last two months. Noah Feldmeyer - hygiene packs that were delivered to Fayetteville Urban Ministry to be distributed to our homeless and marginalized population. Michael Booth - picnic tables that are located by the Gaga Ball pit. James Happel - transportation cart for the Little Theater. In between projects, the scouts have had two campouts. The first was a trip to Jones Lake where scouts worked on rank requirements and did a fivemile hike. The second campout was in Oriental, NC where seven scouts earned their Kayaking Merit Badge. The scouts also went to the Animal Ed-Venture animal sanctuary in Coats, NC to earn their Nature Merit Badge and offer community service while painting the kangaroo deck and bird houses. As summer rolls around, the BSA Troop will send 12 scouts to Summer Camp at Camp Daniel Boone. Zachary Kounas will work on his eagle project at HUMC. The troop will connect with FTCC on June 5 for a Wellness Day where they will work on the Geocaching and Cycling Merit Badge.
