Indeed, as we journey through life, most of us Jesus-lovers realize that, “every day with Jesus is sweeter than the day before,” no matter what the circumstances.

This month brings change to all of us in the Haymount family. June marks the end of our appointments to Haymount UMC, so it is a time of new beginnings for Elizabeth and me, for
you, and for the new pastor coming to you, Allen Bingham. Allen has been a friend of mine for many years, and I know you will be in good hands with him. Our last Sunday at Haymount will be June 19. We will be on vacation the following week. Your new pastor’s first Sunday in the pulpit will be July 10, because the Bishop has determined that the week between moving day (June 28) and July 5 will be a time for settling in after moving. Elizabeth will be appointed to McMannen UMC, about three miles from Duke University. The address is 4102 Neal Rd., Durham, 27705. I will be appointed to Highland UMC, in North Raleigh. From the Pastor Continued Thank you for your gracious support in so many ways during our three years of ministry with you. During that time, we have further developed an appreciation of God’s love and scriptural support for LGBT+ persons, weathered Covid, renovated the organ, made significant reductions to our indebtedness, greatly increased our level of congregational care, and enfolded two wonderful congregations into the Haymount family. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Dr. John

A BIG Thank You! The Nellie Smith Endowment for the Arts is vital to the music ministry at Haymount UMC. The endowment annually provides funds to hire professional mu-sicians for our Christmas and Easter services. This year, the funds will support the Liturgical Dance ministry and replenish textbooks needed for hymnody enhancements used in worship. The congregation’s support of the Nellie Smith Endowment for the Arts strengthens our music ministry, and subsequently our community outreach with visitors viewing our livestreamed services. The endowment committee and congregation receive my sincerest thanks for your continued appreciation of the arts. Another BIG Thank You! The Fred and Rennie Beyer Endowment is vital to the music ministry at Haymount UMC. The endowment provides funds that are essential to the maintence of the church’s pianos. The endowment disbursement provides for annual tun-ings of most of the pianos, and bi-annual tunings for our Steinway grand piano. The congregation receives my sincerest thanks for their support of this endow-ments.

Haymount Endowment Program in Action "Supporting Our Church Now and Forever" **Attention HUMC Staff and Members The Endowment Disbursement Applications for our Fall Cycle are due August 15 for the following Endowment Funds: *Senior Adult Ministries Fund – for a comprehensive older adult ministry at HUMC. Ministry components include – spiritual, enrichment, nutrition, intergenerational, outreach, recreation and service. *Mary Evelyn Cross Hayes Fund for HUMC – for UMW programs, children and youth programs, and the sanctuary flower fund. Please contact the Finance Office for any questions and the application form. This application form is also posted on the church website. Vacation Bible School
VBS Donations Needed If you would like to support our kids in KidServe - older elementary kids going into the community to do mission work - you can help by donating bags of dog, cat, and kitten food, and canned kitten food. These can be brought to the church office by July 18th. The children will deliver the food to the Cumberland County Animal Shelter, where they will learn the benefits and responsibilities of owning pets, and they will make pet toys while there.

Congratulations Preschool Graduates!
HUMC Stephen Ministry Haymount United Methodist Church is a STEPHEN MINISTRY CONGREGATION! By now, you have heard about Stephen Ministry from Dr. Tyson, from the newsletter, from the bulletin, from our Mission Moment, or just from people in the church. It is a wonderful ministry which helps many people. There are all kinds of difficult situations in this world, and we all want to help in whatever ways that we can. Becoming a Stephen Minister is one way we can help. And it is effective! Stephen Ministry is distinctively Christian Caregiving! We are caregivers, but Jesus is the Curegiver! When a person goes through Stephen Minister Training, he or she is given a set of “tools” to use and develop, and to know how and when to use these “tools” in specific ways. We do all this knowing that Jesus is guiding us. We are planning our next Training session for this coming Fall. The first session will be on Sunday, October 2, 2022. The training consists of 50 hours. Please don’t let that scare you off. It will go fast, and it is truly rewarding. You will bond with your training group and will deepen your own relationship with Christ. We would love to grow our ministry as more people are needing Stephen Ministers. If you are a person with good listening skills, truly know how to show empathy, and have a strong belief that Jesus can and will heal broken hearts, have we got a job for you!

Funeral Meals Because of COVID, we were not able to provide funeral meals for the families of the deceased for about two years. We are now able to resume the meals, and hope you will want to be a part of this ministry. You know the saying ‘it takes a village’, and that applies to our funeral meals. Each funeral meal needs a leader, whose job is to coordinate the meal by calling volunteers to provide the food, and to make sure there is a good variety. There should be several volunteers to: - Provide a dish (casserole, vegetable, meat, salad, dessert, etc.) - Set the tables - Set the food out - Prepare pitchers of tea - Clean up after meal - Assist family, being friendly and helpful, as needed Please call Jennie in the church office if you have questions, and she will gladly put your name on the list of volunteers. Hopefully, you will not be needed very often, but what a blessing you will be when you are needed to help. Thank you in advance for considering this special ministry! Youth News May was a busy month for the youth! In addition to our twice-weekly meetings, we had the opportunity to celebrate Star Wars Day, Graduate Sunday, and the end of the school year. For the first time ever, in tandem with the Movie Night ministries brought over by the Christ Church congregation, the youth group hosted a movie night on May the Fourth. With Princess Leia-monade, Blue milk, C Tea PO, pizza and desserts aplenty, we gathered remembering the Light of Christ leads us away from the Dark Side. A whopping 67 people came out to enjoy Star Wars: A New Hope. Plans are already underway for the youth to host a follow-up Revenge of the Fifth night next year. We also celebrated many graduates on May 15. Eleven high school seniors (four who also graduated with an Associate degree from FTCC), one undergrad, and three graduate school graduates had the opportunity to come process at the traditional service and enjoy a luncheon served and decorated by the Grandmothers Group. 54 people attended the luncheon. Thanks to all who had a hand in the celebration! A fun time was had by all! As we move into the summer, the youth group will be meeting every week on Sundays and Wednesdays to have fun and fellowship together. We will have a large focus on mission opportunities during the summer as we prepare for the mission trip in July!

Scout Recruiting HUMC's Cub Scout Pack 740 Held Recruitment Event at Honeycutt Park Saturday, April 23rd The leaders of HUMC's Pack got their scouts together to invite other students to become part of their Pack. It was fun for the scouts, and some neighborhood kids came to explore what scouting is all about. If you know of children, both boys and girls, who are currently in Kindergarten through Fifth Grades who might want to become part of our Cub Scout Pack, please contact Eric Feldmeyer - 3Scouts740@gmail.com. Could You Be the Next Director of Children and Family Ministries? Haymount United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, NC is seeking a full-time Director of Children and Family Ministries. This staff person will work in partnership with the pastor, other staff, and members of the congregation to oversee children and family ministries within the life of the church. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate will have a degree minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. The ideal candidate should also have: • Strong organizational and administrative skills. • The ability to work well with staff and congregation members, and ability to lead groups of volunteers through training and empowerment. • The ability to vision, plan, and implement strategies. • Familiarity with United Methodist curriculum and pedagogy. • Computer/technology skills.
