My name is Allen, and next week I will be arriving at Haymount UMC as we begin ministry together. Many of you already know my name. I was baptized William Allen Bingham by my grandfather Buell Bingham at Asbury United Methodist Church in Washington, NC. My father joined the faculty of NC State University several years later and we moved to Raleigh. My mother Annette taught middle school science and my dad taught en-
gineering mechanics, so math and science are my lifeblood. My life in Raleigh concluded as I graduated from NCSU with a degree in Materials Science and Engineering in 1988. I have an older brother JEB who is a patient at Murdoch Developmental Center in Butner, a brother Dan who is an oncologist in Syracuse, and a sister Lorri who works at Duke Medical Center. I moved to Madison, NJ, and entered the seminary of Drew University in 1988. Cindy and I met at NCSU and married after my first year in seminary and will celebrate our thirty-third anniversary in August. Our daughter Ann, a UNC-Chapel works in Hill graduate, marketing at the University of North Carolina Press. Our son William will complete his associate's degree at Richmond Community College this summer. From the Pastor Continued My previous ministries include assistant pastor at Bloomingdale UMC (NJ), assistant to the director of the Drew Institute for Archaeological Research, pastor at Rehoboth and Harris Chapel UMCs, at Swansboro UMC (associate), Nashville UMC, Pinehurst UMC, Queen Street UMC, and First UMC of Rockingham. As we gather you will find that I am often repetitive in worship. For instance: I will greet you, "Good morning saints. Good morning sinners!" as a reminder that each of us is a piece of work - a piece of God's handiwork, sinners becoming saints. I will pray for each of us "to be delivered from the Evil One, be preserved in God's goodness, and led in the way of everlasting life" as a reminder that each of us is being transformed by God's grace into a new creation. I will send you out "bearing witness to the love of God in the world so that others to whom love is a stranger find in each of us a generous friend" as a reminder that our work is to love our God and our neighbor. If you find yourself repeating these phases alongside the Lord's Prayer and the Apostles' Creed then the labor of passing on the faith of our mothers and fathers is working. Our recent seasons of ministry through COVID-19 have not been easy. My hope is that we both lean into the renewing work, will, and way of our Lord Jesus Christ as we journey together. An Update from the Finance Committee Loan balance (debt) as of May 31, 2022 is $500,375. (was $777,965 at the end of 2021). Operating statistics through May 2022: YTD Total Receipts are $543,661.61 and Total Expenses are $555,560.32 Budgeted Total Receipts $ 580,504.17 and Total Expenses are $580,587.52 Finance News of Note: The Financial policies and procedures (FSOPs) are available on the website under “about us”/Forms. We have provided a Finance liaison to the Haymount PreSchool Board. Thank you Bud Symond! You, our Haymount family, provided $33,000 for Christmas to Remember. Over $20,000 of that was given to Curamericas (per your designations). Another portion, we are about to see in action as our Youth resume a previous youth mission, applied to the Appalachian Service Project this summer. And the last portion is designated for an adult work team. Thanks to our Trustees for their efforts in maintaining our facilities and in monitoring our utilities – a difficult task with our aging HVAC systems. We have received nearly $28,000 from our Endowments this year for use in ministries, missions, and maintenance. Watch for updates from the hardworking Endowment Committee as to these funds and the great things they help accomplish. Another $20,000 of designated funds has been used for youth, children, lawn, maintenance, outreach and higher education. There are additional funds also previously designated for children and youth ministries throughout the summer.

Haymount Endowment Program in Action "Supporting Our Church Now and Forever" **All three of the churches that have merged with Haymount - Lyon Memorial Methodist, Wesley Heights United Methodist, and Christ United Methodist have been involved in either starting an endowment or honored by an endowment fund in their name at HUMC. Our committee is pleased to announce the exciting recent endowment donation by Christ UMC. They have donated funds to start not only their endowment but also the Lyon Memorial Methodist Church Endowment. This endowment will support HUMC’s nursery, particularly to remember the work of Mary Fletcher, a Lyon member who then became a beloved HUMC nursery staff member. Here are the details about the other two endowments funded by our merged churches. The Christ United Methodist Church Endowment will support children, youth and college student ministries plus unbudgeted general use. The Wesley Heights United Methodist Church Endowment will support our building and grounds maintenance. These three churches were thanked from the pulpit on May 15 by Dr. John for merging and working diligently with us. And, the Endowment Committee would like to thank them again for recognizing the benefit of, and then participating in, the Endowment Program at Haymount! **The Endowment Disbursement Applications for our Fall Cycle are due in the Finance Office by August 15 for the following Endowment Funds: Senior Adult Ministries Fund - for a comprehensive older adult ministry at HUMC. Ministry components include -- spiritual, enrichment, nutrition, intergenerational, outreach, recreation and service. Mary Evelyn Cross Hayes Fund for HUMC - for UMW programs, children and youth programs and the sanctuary flower fund. Please contact the Finance Office for any questions and the application form. CRESP We know it’s early to think about BACK TO SCHOOL but please keep Cumberland Road Elementary in mind as you see back to school sales! “Share with God’s people who are in need.” Romans 12:13 Haymount began a partnership with Cumberland Road Elementary (CRESP) in 2013, that began with the idea of helping children in need! Since that time, our volunteers have made a difference in the lives of so many children! Whatever your gifts, there are several ways that you can be a vital part of this ministry! • Volunteer one hour each week in the classroom mentoring children K-5th grade. You can be a lunch buddy, reading buddy, classroom volunteer, make copies, help with special celebrations, etc. They are excited to welcome much needed volunteers back into the school next year and will work with your schedule! • Volunteer after school with one of the various clubs… Garden Club, Beautification Program, Boys to Men Program, Uniquely Me for Girls and Comic Book Club • Donate School Supplies- July 1- August 31 o Drop off school supplies in boxes located outside of the Sanctuary or Church office. An Update from CurAmericas That the Curamericas leadership team were warmly welcomed at the Nyacoto Community Center (a culturally sensitive birthing center) is an understatement. Over 150 people attended the 2-hour celebration. There was live music, dancing, numerous speeches (translated from Swahili to English) and refreshments. Notable attendees included Elizabeth Ongwae, wife of the Governor of Kisii, and Madame Sarah Omache, Minister of Health. The Christmas to Remember funds ($21,147) helped purchase solar panels and batteries, which can support the birthing center for two weeks if necessary and became operational earlier this year. Thank you, Haymount UMC!!! The solar panels/batteries and KIKOP (Curamericas Kenya project) are a HUGE DEAL! No longer do staff fret about delivering babies using flashlights. We ourselves encountered frequent power outages while in Kisii, not to mention the cost savings. One physician from a nearby non-KIKOP birthing facility commented that half of his patients had moved to the Nyacoto Center. Everyone kept talking about how deaths of the mothers and babies aren’t occurring. Several also said they had never seen white people before. The leadership team split into small groups and did home visits often with quarter mile hikes up steep hills off dirt roads. Mothers shared lessons about breastfeeding, kitchen gardens, latrines, etc. There are 47 KIKOP lessons, one taught weekly by trained volunteers; and mothers wanted even more lessons! We were welcomed similarly at all three KIKOP project sites. Also, Madame Omache began and concluded each of our meetings with prayer, and she hosted us for dinner in her home. The Merci Center - Let's go! We are looking forward to another mission trip this Fall. They are in need of notebook paper and single spiral notebooks in either wide or college ruled. Please keep this mission in mind as you start to do your back to school sale shopping. There will be more information to follow in upcoming e-updates. Thank you for your faithful support of this important mission.
Our Children Need You Do you love God's children and wish for them to come to know our God? Then you will want to be a Sunday School teacher for our elementary-aged students for the 2022-2023 school year. The new Sunday School year big kick-off is August 28th. Ideally we will have four to five teaching teams of two adults each. Sunday School is from 10am-10:50am each Sunday of the year. Easy-to-use and fun lessons are provided. Safe Sanctuaries We are a Safe Sanctuaries Congregation! What does that mean? Each volunteer working with children, youth, and vulnerable adults is screened and trained. All children are required to be checked into a ministry program by a parent or guardian and checked out again, providing allergy and other important information for each child. Every member of the congregation is involved in keeping our children and youth safe by... *making sure all children in the hallways are accompanied by an adult; *being vigilant in large group spaces and notifying staff if any suspicious person or activity is taking place; *greet strangers and ask if you can help them find where they may want to go. We all - together - make this church home a "Safe Sanctuary".

Vacation Bible School - Last Call! Vacation Bible School and KidServe Registration is coming to a close. Register NOW!!! For any and all children who have completed a 4-year-old preschool program through Fifth Grade. Cost is free!! Go to www.haymountumc.com to register. _________________________________________________________________ VBS Donations Needed If you would like to support our kids in KidServe - older elementary kids going into the community to do mission work - you can help by donating bags of dog, cat, and kitten food, and canned kitten food. These can be brought to the church office by July 18th. The children will deliver the food to the Cumberland County Animal Shelter, where they will learn the benefits and responsibilities of owning pets, and they will make pet toys while there.
Youth News by Drew Ellis
In June the youth were able to welcome some new members into the fold, as rising sixth graders are now able to join in our activities. Some of what we were up to last month includes: talking about becoming disciple-making disciples, going to Battle House laser tag, learning card games for our down time on mission trip, and helping with Ukrainian relief (a representative from Quaker House came and co-led us in a mission project)! July marks the return of a youth group mission trip. Haymount is going to Carter County, Tennessee through Appalachia Service Project from July 1016. A group of 9 of us are attending the mission week and doing construction projects together. Please join us at the 9:00 Contemporary service on July 10 to commission, pray for, celebrate, and send off these youth who have dedicated their week to being the hands and feet of Christ! (I also get the honor to spend my birthday ON the trip this year. What an awesome present!) A reminder to parents and youth who are interested in joining us next year: the mission trip is for high school youth (completed 9th-12th grade) and is open to those who are active at least 75% of the school year. This year we had limited space but we hope to see you join us next year on our trip!

Did You Know? Our own Carol "Lani" Dickey was recently in the spotlight at the Cumberland County Foundation? Here is an excerpt from the article: Carol "Lani" Dickey is a retired professor from Fayetteville Technical Community College who served 40 years as a paralegal instructor. How did you first get involved with CCF? I first learned about CCF through Libby Daniel, a friend and fellow church member. For several years I had regularly supported two charities. The first is an organization that pays for cleft palate surgeries for children whose parents cannot afford it. Smile Train was recommended to my friend by the Duke surgeon who repaired her son’s cleft palate as a way of helping other parents. The second nonprofit is the United Methodist Committee on Relief. My father spent his adult life as a Methodist minister. To paraphrase John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, “Do all you can for as many people as you can for as long as you can.” What an inspiring way to approach life. After meeting with Mary Holmes, the President of CCF, I set up an endowment for Smile Train. Later, I established an endowment for the United Methodist Committee on Relief in honor of my parents. What inspires your giving? What is your advice for our readers? It completes me to feel like I am part of something greater than myself. No one gets out of this world alive. However, what we choose to do while we are here can far exceed our lifespan. Each of us has the power to do some good. ...Either way, you are doing good!

Youth Fellowship Spotlight
Youth Group is our once a week, Sunday night meeting for youth, Grades 6-12! We meet from 5:30-7:00 in the New Life Center. Along with studying the Bible and learning about Jesus, we love to have fun and to serve others. Each meeting involves a meal, games, a Bible lesson, and small group discussion.
