The church is not yet open for Sunday school or small groups. We are taking this one step at a time. Thank you for your patience. We want to be sure everyone is safe, so we have put important protocols in place. Please read them carefully.
It has been so long since we have worshipped together in the Sanctuary and in the With love to each of you, New Life Center! In some ways, we are all spiritually weaker from Dr. John this time of Covid separation, and in some ways we are stronger. I am happy to tell you that the Church Council made the decision to open the church for worship again, beginning the first Sunday in October, at 9:45 in the New Life Center and 11:00 in the sanctuary. The services will be live streamed, so you can worship with us online, and if you would prefer Deadline for Next Newsletter you can watch the serNOVEMBER 2020 submission deadline: vice at anytime after it is OCTOBER 16 live-streamed. We agree that financial contributions are a way to help people grow spiritually in their relationship with God by supporting their church’s mission and ministry with a percentage of their incomes. Our congregation’s finance committee has selected the New Consecration Sunday Stewardship Program as a way to teach the biblical and spiritual principles of generous giving in our stewardship education emphasis this year. New Consecration Sunday is based on the biblical philosophy of the need of the giver to give for his or her own spiritual development, rather than on the need of the church to receive. Followers of Jesus Christ want to give unselfishly as an act of discipleship. New Consecration Sunday encourages people toward proportionate and systematic giving in response to the question, “What percentage of my income is God calling me to give?” During the Prayer Vigil October 23-24, we are asking you to come to the sanctuary to pray for God’s blessing on your life, your family, our church, and our nation, and to leave your sealed estimate of giving card for 2021 on the altar to support our church’s missionary, benevolent, and educational ministries in this community and around the world. Every attendee and member who completes an Estimate of Giving Card does so voluntarily by bringing their card to the altar during this time of prayer October 23-24. We will do no home solicitation to ask people to complete cards. We ask those who cannot participate in the Prayer Vigil to bring their cards to worship on Oct. 25 or to mail their cards to the church to the attention of the Finance Office. We invite everyone to attend worship either in person or online on October 25 for a time of celebration and inspiration, and to join us for a boxed lunch after the services either to enjoy on the grounds or to take home. If you’d like to join us on the grounds, please be sure to bring a folding chair. Thanks in advance for your enthusiastic participation in Consecration Sunday events. August Financials Scott Perry

Haymount United Methodist Church Music Ministry Dear Haymount UMC Family, Thank you so much for the warm welcome I received since my arrival in August! I am thrilled to be part of a warm congregation and staff that is appreciative of their music ministry. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, music ministry looks different this fall; however, it is my hope that we will utilize different areas of music ministry in worship that will bring glory to God and a smile to your face. I have a working list of participants in music ministry, but I am always looking for new members. I would especially like to know who our instrumentalists are in the congregation. Please reach out to me at monicasparzak@haymountumc.com, if you are interested in serving in music ministry. • Chancel Choir rehearsals have resumed. We are socially distanced and using the Broadway Project’s “Singer’s Mask.” The masks allow us to sing safely at a six feet distance. For rehearsals, we are in the sanctuary and socially distanced. • Kingdom Kids Children’s Choir resumed on September 20th. We are currently practicing outside before LIGHT from 4:30pm-5:30pm. Masks and temperature checks are required for participation. • Youth Worship Arts will resume at a later day. Contact Rev. Donald Warren or Andrew Sánchez, Director of Contemporary Music for information regarding this group. • Handbell Choir resumed on September 20th. I hope you will enjoy seeing the handbells in worship this fall. Masks are required for participation. • We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of our refurbished Möller organ later this fall! • Even during a pandemic, we have much to be thankful for at our church. Ocracoke

The September Ocracoke work team on the steps of the parsonage - Dave and Karen Barkman, Wes Jones, Laurie Doherty and Mark White. The parsonage has been unlivable for at least 13 months. It has been elevated, walls and flooring are in, and the kitchen is looking good. There is still much to do - doors need to be installed, much plumbing and electrical work need to be done, and all those little finishing touches are required. We helped move things along by setting two toilets, putting in much trim, and doing some painting. We worked on three other houses as well.

A Note from Jenne Dear friends, In looking through the list of Haymount members, I noticed that a lot of adult children are still listed with their parents. HUMW Update The United Methodist Women (UMW) Executive Board has met twice discussing a way forward!!! We continue to look for ways to live out our purpose as a community of women who know God and experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of missions through participation in the global ministries of the church. We continue through reading, study and prayer, making calls, sending notes and cards, emails, texts, giving through our pledge, etc. We are active for Christ, being the hands and feet for Him. There is no Fall Bake/Food Sale. We are exploring other avenues for revenue to assist various causes we support for women, children and youth locally and around the world. The Annual Meeting of the NCC UMW is a ZOOM meeting at 10:00 a.m. on November 7. As more information is available I will pass it on to you. Our goal is to build a community of faithful and informed women who love and respond to God through mission and service.

Facilities Update by. Rev. Donald M. Warren The global Coronavirus pandemic has created sanitizing and disinfecting issues that most of us have never faced before. Hospitals and medical offices often have specialized equipment to help combat bacteria and viruses, but COVID-19 has forced these technologies into the mainstream as the rest of the world now explores these technologies, too. For United Methodists, whose first General Rule is “do no harm,� the adoption of these technologies to keep not only ourselves but also our neighbors and the rest of society safe is a faithful response to the global crisis we are all facing. Haymount has already deployed two tools in this arsenal of antibacterial and antiviral technology. The first of these tools is an electrostatic sprayer. Ours is an Orbit-brand Next-ES spraying device. This tool dissolves a sanitizing agent in water, which is then charged electrostatically and sprayed in gaseous form throughout the building using a backpack spraying device. Ultraviolet light is used to add another layer of sanitizing power. The electrostatic gas disperses throughout the room and wraps around any furniture or items in the room. The static causes the disinfecting gas to cling to surfaces, where it destroys bacteria and viruses within moments. It is safe for upholstery, books, pets, and people. The second of tools is a set of ionic air purifiers from iWave Air technologies. These devices have been mounted inside the sanctuary HVAC systems, where they deploy two concurrent streams of positive and negative ions into the airflow. (Continued on next page)
Facilities Update Continued When these ions are injected into the air stream, they break down passing pollutants and gases into harmless compounds like oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, and water vapor. When the ions contact viruses, bacteria or mold, they remove the hydrogen molecules. This deprives these pathogens of their source of energy and they die. The ions also attach to allergens like pollen and other particles, causing them to band together until they are large enough to be caught by the HVAC air filter. You can learn more about both of these tools by visiting their respective websites. The iWave Air ionic cleaners are found at www.iwaveair. com, and the information on the Orbit Next-ES electrostatic sprayer is at www.nex-es.com/en/home. In addition to these powerful tools, we have placed hand sanitizing stations at all entrances to the building. Water fountains will be closed for the time being. Available bathrooms will be limited to those outside of the choir room (through the front-right sanctuary doors) and those in the New Life Center lobby. These bathrooms will be sanitized with disinfecting spray at regular intervals throughout the worship services. All other parts of the church will remain closed, so we humbly and kindly ask that you not leave the sanctuary or New Life Center and enter any of the hallways. This will help us maximize our sanitizing and disinfecting efforts. We thank you for your cooperation. We are excited to see you in person if you choose to join us for in-person worship! We are also delighted to have you continue to join us virtually until COVID-19 is finally tamed! Blessings to you all!
