Financial Update: January - June 2021 RECEIPTS Offerings & gifts $724,767.59 TOTAL Receipts $838,189.87* (*Inclusive of refunds, rental, & $105,000 PPP **Grant) Budgeted Receipts (not inclusive of PPP) 6 months $752,322 Actual Receipts without the PPP 6 months $733.189.89 (** PPP - paycheck protection program from the US Small Business Administration to assist with salaries) In addition, HUMC received a $20,000 grant from the NCCUMC Conference in Dec. 2020 to assist with ministers’ salaries in 2021. YTD receipts less the PPP are ($19,132.11) less than budgeted EXPENSES Total expenses $729,002.01 (An additional $12,094 for ministers’ pension & insurance expenses for 3 months was covered by the NCCUMC) YTD TOTAL receipts exceed expenses by $109,187.86 We are blessed and grateful for the grants. NLC Update Dear Brothers and Sisters, I am VERY pleased to announce that the New Life Center’s sound system and livestream setup have undergone a complete transformation. With the help of generous donors, we now have brand new sound and video equipment that has been installed by Draughon Brothers Inc. (Continued on the following page)
NLC Update Continued This is a huge step in the right direction of becoming more aware and apparent of the digital age we are living in. About two-thirds of our worship attendance are online worshippers. Since the beginning of the pandemic, our online presence and worship service has left much to be desired. With this upgrade, we can be better shepherds to our congregation and are more inviting to first-time guests who watch us online. A church’s online presence is often the dealbreaker with people who are looking for a church family. So, let us make a joyful noise and give praise to God for the wonderful gifts He provides for His Church. Continue to pray for Haymount, that God will lead us in the direction He has planned for us. Wednesday Evening Fellowship 5.0 The Fellowship Meals Committee is hard at work preparing for the return of fellowship and food as part of the Wednesday church activities in the fall. We will serve meals from 5:15 – 6:16pm beginning September 15 through November 17 with a varied menu provided by local vendors. The full fall menu will be published in the September newsletter. Sign-ups will be available online or on Sundays or by phone. PUT SEPTEMBER 15 ON YOUR CALENDAR NOW! COME ENJOY SAMMIO’S SPAGHETTI WITH MEAT SAUCE OR MARINA OR GLUTEN FREE PIZZA WITH SALAD BAR AND BREADSTICKS AND IT’S FREE FOR ALL ATTENDING! After that, meals will be free for children 11 and younger and $5.00 for everyone else. Unmasked (mostly)! The Church Council decided that vaccinated persons no longer need to mask for worship. We will continue to practice social distancing for now, leaving alternating pews empty as marked. Those working with children are vaccinated and will continue to mask for now, to ensure that our children and their families feel secure. We give thanks to God for this good step toward normalcy, and we thank each of you for your love and support during the challenges of the past year.
Church Movie Night Our next movie night will be Friday, August 27th. Supper will be served at 6:00pm and the movie will begin at 6:30pm. We will have pizzas from Fresh Market, salad, and dessert. Jazz Vespers Last month’s Jazz Vesper service was a huge hit! Thank you to everyone who participated in it live or online. In case you missed it, we have one more Jazz Vesper service on Tuesday, August 10th at 6pm. You do not want to miss it. Go on our church facebook page to view last month’s service from July 13th. Praise and Worship Praise? What's That?! It's a yippy, yahoo, way to go, God! This line is from a favorite song of the kids at Kids Worship on Sunday mornings. We meet every Sunday in the Fellowship Hall from 11:15a-12:00p, and we sing almost every part of the worship service. We pray and talk about prayer, we learn our Creeds and what we as Christians believe. We learn from the Bible and how what we learn affects our lives when we leave church on Sundays. Kids Worship is highly engaging for the children and all to praise our God. Why not have your child participate in Kids Worship?! (Designed for ages 4 through 3rd Grade. Questions? Then Sunday School is a great place for them. Each Sunday the students will be introduced to new Bible lessons and have them reinforced by activities. We have Sunday School for our 4s/PreK/Kindergarten group in Room 133 and our 1st-5th Grades in Room 208 from 9:45-10:45 each Sunday morning. What a Summer! VBS 2021 Rocky Railway VBS was packed with fun! Our children learned that even when things seem hard Jesus is there with us. “Trust Jesus” could be heard throughout the day during our music time, Bible stories games and activities! They learned the importance of helping our neighbor’s by bringing in food for Urban Ministries – the goal was 70 grocery bags and we collected 114 bags! A special thanks to our Grandmothers group and UMW Circle 3 for their contributions to that project. A big thank you to all of the wonderful volunteers, children and parents who made VBS possible!
_________________________________________________________________ KidServe 2021 - It was so good to be back out in our community serving our God! The students were delighted to be able to again travel in order to serve our God by caring for His people. Our destinations were: Williams Farm - to glean corn which was delivered to a food pantry to distribute to marginalized families; the Veterans Nursing Home - to bring the joy of bird-watching to the residents; and Fayetteville Urban Ministry - to deliver food bags that were donated by all the children at VBS and our church family. We praise God for the gift of service and for knowing that we are called to serve God's people, all to the honor and glory of our Lord!

Music News - Handbells and Kingdom Kids Dear Haymount UMC Family, I hope you are enjoying the end of summer! The music ministry will kick off some of their programming in late August and September. We have handbell choir openings and welcome adults and youth to join us. Reading music is not a requirement, and we welcome all who want to learn and join this fun group. Handbell rehearsal resumes on Wednesday, August 25 at 5:15pm. • Calling all boys and girls! Join us for Kingdom Kids Worship Arts. As the music director, one of the complaints that I hear from parents is that my child does not want to sing. We do more than sing in worship arts. We learn how to play different instruments, begin reading music, and this year we did visual art. Come and check us out! Kingdom Kids Worship Arts resumes on Sunday, September 12th at 4:45pm. Youth News Our summer was jam-packed full of fun! I hope everyone enjoyed our trips to Laser tag, the trampoline park, disc golf, and more! In August we will be celebrating our Back to School kick off. There will be a blessing of the backpacks on August 22 from 5:00-7:00. A parent information meeting will take place on August 29 at 5:00pm. Come out and learn what our plans for the full school year will be: lesson ideas, trips, and activities, too. Pastor Elizabeth and I have been discussing the Confirmation schedule for the incoming sixth graders (and those who were unable to participate last year due to COVID). Be on the lookout for more information soon! Monday Morning Bible Study Ladies, get out your calendars and reserve your Monday mornings for the Monday Morning Women's Bible Study beginning September 13th for six weeks. Kindred Spirits Kindred Spirits is a new widow’s fellowship group. This is a fun social outing group for widows. So far, we have enjoyed an evening CFRT outing, breakfast together, and dinner together. Meetups will be at different restaurants or venues at least twice a month. Days and times will vary on Fridays and Saturdays. Costs for each event will vary. (Continued Across)
Stephen Ministry - A Testimonial from a Stephen Minister When I was asked to consider Stephen Ministry, I thought to myself there is no way God wanted me to do this. I, myself, was a mess and I could not see “me” sitting with someone else and helping them through difficult times. As time went on, after I learned what a Stephen Minister was, God continued to remind my brain and heart about this “thing” called Stephen Ministry. I prayed about it and asked God for His guidance. God continued to put the idea in the front of my brain. My mess was being taken care of by God and my heart was healing. I thought God is so real, and so good to me, how could I tell Him no. There was no way I could fail at something that God wants me to do. I signed up for the class and started my training. This was very eye-opening. What I had heard, and what I know of the Ministry, was nothing as great as I learned from the training. This training was something that I wish the whole world would know about. These were dedicated people who care with non-judgement of “you”. They truly want you to love yourself as God loves you. I thought there are so many people in the world who are hurting and don’t have someone who loves them unconditionally. I have learned that most Stephen Ministers have gone through similar troubles in life, and there’s nothing like talking to someone who can really understand what you’re going through. I truly feel the warmth of God’s love and presence in my life more than ever. This ministry has renewed faith, and it has me walking in places I would have never imagined and experiencing the love of Christ in every corner of my soul.”

Endowments Supporting Our Church Now and Forever We have exciting news!! The Endowment Committee is pleased to announce that we now have disbursements/grants to make from our Senior Adult Ministries Endowment Fund, held at The United Methodist Foundation. This fund provides for a comprehensive older adult ministry at Haymount UMC. The recommended components for this ministry include: spiritual, enrichment, nutrition, intergenerational, outreach, recreation, and service. The Endowment Committee also reminds staff and church members that it's time to apply for disbursements from the Mary Evelyn Cross Hayes Fund. This fund provides support for our United Methodist Women's program, our children's and youth ministries, and the sanctuary flower fund. Applications for these funds are due August 15th. Please contact the Finance Office for any questions and the application form. All completed forms are to be returned to the Finance Office. The great news about our Endowment Program is that since it began at HUMC in 1987 with the Marlin Stewart Scholarship Fund, our fund disbursements have totaled more than $122,000 to enhance our church, our programs, and our outreach!! Christmas to Remember 2020: Wells Update from Fred in Rwanda Dear Partners and Friends, Greetings from Rwabirahamba village hills. I pray that this message finds you and your families in good health. I have good and bad news to share with you today. The good news is, after four long weeks of deliberation and field studies, the Water and Sanitation Corporation (WASAC), the institution that is in charge of water distribution in Rwanda, has agreed to give us access to their pipeline. With this, we will be able to construct a 30 cubic meter concrete tank and trench a three-kilometer pipeline to distribute water in the three villages. The pipeline and the tank will take time to complete, but we are going to provide water to more than 5000 people in the villages that we are serving. It is by God’s grace that we can do this. To obtain approval from WASAC has proved to be more difficult than I had anticipated. It required the involvement of the Minister of Infrastructure, and the Governor of the Eastern Province to put pressure on the WASAC for them to finally act, and it finally happened. With this good news, we hope to start the implementation of the project this coming Monday. I am sad to say that this has affected me personally, as well. Two days ago I was informed that my Dad has COVID, and this morning I was told that my Mom does too. They have had mild symptoms so far; my dad is really recovering well, and I hope my mom will start to feel better soon. They are both in isolation, and hopefully I will be able to take medicine to the village. Due to the fact that I will be interacting with a lot of workers during the project, I have decided to rent a house with my project team. Rest assured, I received two vaccines while in the USA. I am grateful to all of you for your time and investment in this project. Now, more than ever, we need clean and accessible water in some of the world’s remote villages like mine. Now, more than ever, people need to wash their hands more often and stay clean. I am very excited to start implementing my lifelong dream of seeing clean water in my village and other villages, and I thank you for being a part of this journey.
