Thank You from Stewardship Dear Friends, On behalf of the Stewardship Committee, thank you to those who sent in their 2022 Estimate of Giving cards. We are pleased to report that 182 pledge cards were submitted totaling $1,100,587, significantly contributing to our total projected 2022 budget revenue of $1,393,210. I am very grateful to those who continuously support our church with their time, talent, and treasure. Because we did not reach our goal of 225 pledges, it was necessary to make significant cuts to the budget. Thank you to the Finance Committee, Church Council, and other committees that spent countless hours to develop the budget for this year. We appreciate your faith and devotion to Haymount and our Lord Jesus Christ. I understand there are people who give generously without pledging. Thank you to everyone who gives. All gifts large and small make a big difference. Why is pledging important? It is the only way the church leadership can approve the annual budget which is based largely on pledges. The budgeting process is important for the continuation and expansion of ministries so we can plan for financial resources. A budget allows us to staff appropriately and makes sure we can maintain our facility for ministry and outreach use so we can continue to follow our mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

April Sermon Series April 3 Wasting Money on Love John 12:1-8 Sometimes the most wonderful thing we can do is waste large amounts money on love! April 10 Palm Sunday We Meant It At the Time Luke 19:28-40 The crowds welcomed Jesus as Messiah. They meant it at the time. Peter promised never to leave or forsake Jesus, as did the other disciples. They meant it at the time. We have made promises to ourselves, to others, and to the Lord. We meant them at the time. That is why we need forgive-ness, and why Jesus had to go to the cross. April 14 Maundy Thursday, 7PM Waiting On You Exodus 12:1-4,11-14 John 13:1-17, 31b-35 This service will recall the Old Testament prophecies of Jesus, the Passover Lamb of God. We will celebrate Holy Communion together. April 14 Good Friday, 7PM The Passion According to St. John We will gather at the foot of the cross to sing, pray, and hear again the passion of the Lord. John 20:1-18 How can we be sure that the good news of Easter is not just wishful thinking? April 24 We See Through Them John 20:19-31 When we reach full adulthood as children of God, we are no longer shocked by the reality of evil and difficulty, nor do those realities make us cynical. They do not paralyze or control us. We see through them. Filled with the peace and power of God, we participate in His redemptive suffering and proleptic victory. We live authentically in Him.

An Update from the Finance Committee Year to Date Financials (Jan & Feb 2022) Total Receipts $252,792.07 (includes $9500 Conference grant) Total Expenses $224,109.81 Variance $ 28,662.26 Loan Balance $541,192.76 ($212,165. Applied from the sale of WHUMC in February!!) The 2022 Budget: There were 182 pledges totaling $1,100,587 for our 2022 budget. Pledges are the basis for budget planning to provide for missions and ministries, as well as providing for the maintenance of our facilities, paying our apportionments, loan, and staff. The Finance Committee, in collaboration with other committees and staff, were challenged to reduce some of the initial requests (those were more than $1.65M) to establish the budget. We are grateful to all who assisted. With a lot of faith, another $298,623 in estimated receipts (based on historical and potential resource information was included to finalize a budget of $1,393,210. The breakdown: 50.3% Salaries and benefits 36.1% Administration (includes debt and maintenance 13.6% Missions/Ministries (includes apportionments) Driven by the needs and mission of our church, we sought to fund more of the missions and ministries requested. Using current designated and endowment funds, reallocations of previously designated funds, and project-ed endowment funds, close to $70,000 will be available for many of those requests that our pledges and estimates of giving would not allow. Thanks be to God and all who participated in these reviews and decisions. Program-ming for numerous fellowship and ministry opportunities is underway. The earnings from our Endowments are becoming an increasingly important part of the budget setting process and will become a more integral part as they continue to grow. (Continued on the next page)
Finance Committee Update Continued Year to date, we have welcomed our new committee members (all leadership teams were listed in a previous newsletter) and provided financial history and committee responsibility information. In accordance with the Book of Discipline, the following individuals have been approved to rotate ‘the money count’ each week: Katherine Pugh, Carole Wells, Carol Lloyd, Tom Whitley, Martha Owen, and Lois Plummer. And the following as those who sign checks: Jan Gothard (Treasurer), Sabrina Brooks (Church Council Chair), Susan Black, and Lois Plummer. Our payroll is direct deposit. We also had participation in the Conference Finance workshop and follow up with the Conference Treasurer in preparation for our annual Financial Standard Operating Procedures (FSOPs) review. The review will be complete in April and the FSOPs will be made available on the website. We will continue to monitor HUMC financials each month and provide periodic updates. We covet your prayers as we work as stewards of these financial resources. Thank you for all your offerings and gifts. Thank you for being God’s servants at and through HUMC. Endowment in Action The Endowment Committee has more exciting news. We warmly thank Wesley Heights United Methodist Church for developing a new endowment fund, which is among our largest endowed funds. This fund will provide for building and grounds maintenance for HUMC. Of note, there is a special statement on this fund’s charter paper: “Remembering Wesley Heights UMC of Fayetteville (1946 - 2021) that merged with Haymount UMC on June 16, 2021.” Thank you, Wesley Heights UMC, for joining us and honoring us with this significant endowment fund!! HUMC staff and members please remember the applications for disbursements from our endowment funds for the Spring Cycle are due April 15. Application forms are on our website and in the Finance Office. The Endowment Committee has received an appreciation note and photos from one of our Preschool teachers : “Thank you so much for awarding Nellie Smith Endowment funds for our Preschool’s Music and Chapel Class. Garage Sale Update Together, we have raised $5,005 so far on the spring garage sale. We expect a little more to come in. The money from the sale will be used for 2 different things. One third will go to Dr. and Dr. Fogleman for a scholarship fund that is used to help nursing and medical students they connect with in their work in numerous African nations. The rest will be donated through UMCOR for relief work in Ukraine. UMCOR is partnering with other agencies on the ground to help for an extended period of time. Thanks to all of you who participated in any way -pricing, donating goods, picking things up, spreading the word to neighbors and friends, helping set things up, cleaning up, shopping, etc. Myrover Reese picked up the bulk of the leftovers for sale in their thrift store. Leftover books were hauled down to the Friends of the Library for their next book sale. Your donations will continue to enrich our community. We are already at work on our summer sale, which will benefit music and arts at church. Date TBA. Early donations are appreciated as that lets us do our pricing ahead of time.

HUMW Even though United Methodist Women (UMW) was basically “grounded” for two years due to the pandemic, we have been busy!!! • The Executive Board continues to meet virtually and in person for planning. • Circle 3 corresponds by text, phone, email, and eventually met “distanced” in person. • Circle 2 uses email, text, phone and “distanced” in person. • Circle 6 uses email, text, phone, Zoom, and “distanced” in person. Even though fund raising events were cancelled, we sold masks, had a Fantasy Food Meal, and made and sold cookies with proceeds of nearly $3000.00. ALL THESE MONIES WILL GO TO HELP WOMEN, CHILDREN, AND YOUTH LOCALLY AND WORLDWIDE. We asked for and received proceeds from the Senior Adult Ministries Endowment Fund to assist five Haymount UMC ministries – Kindred Spirits, Stephen Ministries, Church flowers and the Senior Adult Yoga program. So we may have been somewhat “grounded”, yet we continue what we are called to do. It is about connection - to God, to one another, to the needs of women, children, and youth in the world, to our Purpose, to our past, to our present, to our future. We follow the call of God to work to be His witnesses.

Youth News ATTENTION ALL FAMILIES OF HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE GRADUATES! The day is almost here for us to celebrate all that has been accomplished throughout your days at school! Sports accomplishments, band concerts, friends you’ve made along the way, fond memories of dances and football games and what you have done to have fun, the hard work of moving to virtual school and back into the classroom, and more… There is so much that you should be proud of! Haymount United Methodist Church wants to celebrate alongside your family. We ask that you could send us some extra information to help us celebrate as a congregation. Musical Notes Dear Haymount UMC Family, I am thrilled to welcome The Methodist University Chorale for our last Argo~Aycock Concert of the 2021-2022 season. The group will perform on April 3rd at 4:00PM in the sanctuary. The Chorale is under the direction of Dr. Michael Martin, Union-Zukowski Professor of the Arts. The Methodist University Chorale has been part of the choral experience in one form or another for 65 years at MU. The group is considered one of the primary faces of the University and is called upon to represent it at high-profile events. The community efforts of this group include performances at high schools locally and throughout North Carolina, community programs, and area churches. Membership is open to all students at Methodist University and determined by audition. Each year, the choirs perform throughout the region and state. Choirs include the MU Chorale, Chamber Singers, and men’s and women’s choruses.
