WELCOME We are delighted to announce the 2020 Hay Festival Programme for Schools, with a dazzling line-up of diverse voices offering an inspirational range of events. The primary day includes Children’s Laureates Cressida Cowell and Michael Rosen, as well as rising stars Onjali Q Rauf and Konnie Huq from Blue Peter. On secondary day we have remarkable and inspirational writers including Akala, Patrice Lawrence, Muhammad Khan and Elizabeth Acevedo; activists Laura Bates and Laura Coryton; historian Lucy Worsley; and legendary Children’s Laureate Jacqueline Wilson. On both days the Science Museum will be performing their Greatest Hits Show, bringing an explosive element to the programme this year. Offering 12 fantastic events to choose from each day, the programme will inspire and entertain pupils in Key Stages 2, 3 and 4. Generously funded by the Welsh Government and the Hay Festival Foundation, the events are free for all state schools. Schools can arrive at 10am or 11.15am. Both start times offer the same opportunities for pupils to hear the authors and to buy their books and get them signed. We look forward to welcoming your school to Hay Festival for a wonderful day of inspiration, science, storytelling and entertainment. Hay Festival’s Programme for Schools is curated by Education Manager Aine Venables and Children’s Director Julia Eccleshare.

LUCY WORSLEY The Austen Girls

LAURA BATES The Burning

MUHAMMAD KHAN Kick the Moon

SUE CHEUNG Chinglish

Join popular television historian Lucy Worsley as she brings alive the fascinating life of Jane Austen as you’ve never heard it before – from the perspective of her nieces!
