Pitch #2 Description of the Pitch: This pitch goes straight into the goals and purpose of Mariners Inn. It segways into a program participants appreciation of Mariners Inn in order to share somewhat of a story and create that human connection. We get a sense of the goals, successes, and the need (as narrated by the program participant). We get a sense of how long it has been serving the Southeast Michigan community but we don’t get a sense of why it was founded.
Mariners Inn works to eliminate the number of men dealing with homelessness and substance abuse in Southeastern Michigan. This is accomplished by providing this population with a range of social services that will ease their transition to recovery. We know that the negative consequences of men dealing with substance abuse produces ripple effects in their communities. Mariners Inn also works with youth, adults, and families to provide quality prevention and intervention programs. One of our program participants dealing with substance abuse, said it best when he shared: “there is no progress without a struggle and while he does struggle, he stayed with us because in his words: Our staff continued to show him that there is another way to live. X years later, Mariners Inn has become a nationally acclaimed leading treatment center known for its professional approach toward alleviating the problems of homelessness and substance abuse. We’ve helped over _____ men over the years across Southeast Michigan.
Pitch #3 Description of the pitch: This pitch is a bit shorter, but it covers the goals and purpose of Mariners Inn. We get a sense of the goals, successes, and the need (as narrated by the program participant). Pitch #5 Description of the pitch: This pitch is a bit shorter, but it covers the goals and purpose of Mariners Inn. We get a sense of the goals, successes, but not so much the need or why it was founded. An important question to have answered here is: How did Mariners Inn transform from a place to serve the poor, to a place that now serves men dealing with issues of substance abuse? Having this answer will help us humanize this pitch a little more.
When Mariners Inn was founded in 1925, soon after it was redesigned to serve as an Inn where lodging, food and clothing were provided for the poor.
