PROJECT 01: PROJECTED SPACE The purpose of this project was to imagine and explore the idea of composition through 2D as a 3D space in different ways: reproductions, improvs, and a 3D model. The composition I used was “En tono mayor” a piece of abstract artwork made by Carlos Merida, a Guatemalan artist. The main focus while creating these different versions was to give emphasis on his hieratical repeated use of triangles throughout the artwork.

Project 02: Light Vessel A critical aspect of perception an architect must control is light to develop space. This project intended to create a space that would capture certain qualities of light. Through different light studies and study models I created an optical vessel that glows and casts shadows when hit with light through its designed openings.

Project 03: Pavilion The project aimed to shift anticipating human residence and interaction while remaining as imaginative as possible, given no specific site. The pavilion designed was to have an open and secluded space placed according to different lighting and noise conditions to meet the needs of more than one group of people, allowing it to have multiple uses.

Project 04: Courtyard The courtyard project is an extension of the pavilion, but this time with a specific site given to place our pavilion. The site is between the library and the architecture building at Detroit Mercy. My goal for this courtyard design was to create three distinct spaces: a quiet space for more intimate conversations or reading a book, a collaborative study space in the pavilion, and a social resting area where people can lounge on a sloping grass bed. At the end, the courtyard should allow students and faculty to study together, to reflect, to discover a sense of peace and slowdown from their day-to-day activities.
