FROM PLANTING To Plate

being able to sustainably provide an abundance of fresh and seasonal produce for hawkstone hall has been one of our goals since opening in 2019. the aspirational project of the kitchen garden finally began to take shape in the summer of 2021.

Our gardeners work hard to supply a succession of fresh fruit and vegetables all year round below is a handpicked selection of our favourite fruit and vegetables to plant , along with some tips and tricks .

after a hardy winter the last or our winter vegetables are waiting to be picked to make way for the new spring crop . we are excited to start preparing the green house for the spring season . sewing will begin with celeriac cauliflower , cabbage & kale . as the cold winter ground thaws out the sun helps the soil to loosen in preparation to move our greenhouse crop to the main garden .

once the days become longer and ground has warmed up we are able to plant the onion & garlic seeds .

our expert team of gardeners are continuously updating and evolving our planting plan to optimize our harvesting yield , ensuring the freshest selection reach hawkstone

Abby & Adam’s hawkstone hall wedding

‘Dance until you can’t dance anymore, don’t sweat the small stuff, and remember to take in every single moment’ – wise words from today’s bride, Abby.

A’S

summer wedding at Hawkstone Hall is a bit of a beaut if I’m honest. If you love a show-stopping country house venue, magnificent floral installations and pet-friendly weddings as much as me then you are going to LOVE this real wedding feature. What are you waiting for? Grab a cuppa and dive straight in…

A&

ABBY SAYS…

We instantly fell in love with Hawkstone Hall whilst scouring the internet looking for venues and the moment we saw it in the distance driving down the drive, we knew it was going to be the one. We wanted somewhere where we could have the ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception all at the same place so that the day could be really relaxed and our guests didn’t have to worry about travelling anywhere. We also wanted our family and closest friends to be able to stay the night so the fact Hawkstone could sleep so many people was a huge bonus! And lastly, it was really important

to us that the venue was dog friendly so that we could have Nala with us on the day.

Hawkstone has the wow factor! Nothing else measured up. It has the most beautiful bridal wing for bridal preparations, with plenty of space to relax and get ready. We loved that each part of our wedding day could be in a different space for our guests to enjoy and the gardens too are simply magnificent. We feel so lucky that we found Hawkstone Hall and were able to get married in such a beautiful place.

I went to London to get my beautiful wedding dress. It’s by Julie Vino from a bridal boutique in Kensington called Blush & Ivory. I knew I wanted long sleeves and a low back and I was struggling to find anything with both of those things locally! As soon as I tried it on I knew it was the one. Adam’s suit was by Ted Baker and the groomsmen’s were from M&S. We thought the navy and blue went really nicely with the blush bridesmaids’ dresses.

I had a fairly clear vision of the look and feel I wanted for our wedding day. Neutral, blush tones with a relaxed, romantic, feminine feel, with lots of flowers. I wanted timeless elegance, with modern romance!

Red Floral was our florist. We had a

vision that I had no doubt, Mat from Red Floral could fulfi ll!

The food was amazing. Catering for the wedding breakfast was done by the in-house team at Hawkstone Hall. We absolutely loved going to Hawkstone for our menu and wine tasting. We both really enjoyed our fish and vegetarian choice so ended up getting one of each to share on the day! To start with we chose chicken liver parfait or butternut squash, beetroot, and lentil spring roll. For the main, seabass or wild mushroom and truffle risotto and for dessert we had a chocolate brownie. Our evening food was pizzas which went down a treat! The cake was from Occasion Cakes, it was absolutely beautiful and tasted incredible. It had four tiers of lemon cake, carrot cake, and Victoria sponge.

William wordsworth was born in cockermouth , cumbria , england , on april 7, 1770. wordsworth ’ s mother died when he was eight — this experience shapes much of his later work . wordsworth attended hawkshead grammar school , where his love of poetry was firmly established and , it is believed , where he made his first attempts at verse . while he was at hawkshead , wordsworth ’ s father died leaving him and his four siblings orphans . after hawkshead , wordsworth studied at st . john ’ s college in cambridge and , before his final semester , he set out on a walking tour of europe — an experience that influenced both his poetry and his political sensibilities . while touring europe , wordsworth came into contact with the french revolution . this experience , as well as a subseQuent period living in france , brought about wordsworth ’ s interest and sympathy for the life , troubles , and speech of the “ common man .” these issues proved to be of the utmost importance to wordsworth ’ s work . wordsworth ’ s earliest poetry was published in 1793 in the collections an evening walk and descriptive sketches . while living in france , wordsworth conceived a daughter , caroline , out of wedlock ; he left france , however , before she was born . in 1802, he returned to france with his sister on a four - week visit to meet caroline . later that year , he married mary hutchinson , a childhood friend , and they had five children together . in 1812, while living in grasmere , two of their children catherine and john — died .

eQually important in the poetic life of wordsworth was his 1795 meeting with the poet samuel taylor coleridge . it was with coleridge that wordsworth published the famous lyrical ballads ( j . & a . arch ) in 1798. while the poems themselves are some of the most influential in western literature , it is

the preface to the second edition that remains one of the most important testaments to a poet ’ s views on both his craft and his place in the world . in the preface wordsworth writes on the need for “ common speech ” within poems and argues against the hierarchy of the period which valued epic poetry above the lyric .

wordsworth ’ s most famous work , the prelude ( edward moxon , 1850), is considered by many to be the crowning achievement of english romanticism . the poem , revised numerous times , chronicles the spiritual life of the poet and marks the birth of a new genre of poetry . although wordsworth worked on the prelude throughout his life , the poem was published posthumously . wordsworth spent his final years settled at rydal mount in england , traveling , and continuing his outdoor excursions . devastated by the death of his daughter , dora , in 1847, wordsworth seemingly lost his will to compose poems .

william wordsworth died at rydal mount on april 23, 1850, leaving his wife , mary , to publish the prelude three months later .
