Yell at me, I deserve it.
Be mad at me for the things I did, more so than the things I didn’t do.
Tell me why I will never be enough for this. We both know it’s true.
Crush my skull because the thoughts that it produces could never compare to a reality,
being more than deserving of the treatment.
Simply said,
I was a fool for thinking I could love you, the way you hate me.

ABOUT THIS PUBLICATION
Welcome to this special edition of ESOTEROS – the student-produced literary publication for Mountlake Terrace High School. The tradition of a literary magazine at Terrace extends back to the early days of the school in the 1960s. However, the ESOTEROS (as it was named by the original student editorial staff) hasn’t been published regularly since the early 1990s. By the way, ESOTEROS is a play on the word “esoteric” meaning “intended for or likely to be understood by only a small number of people,” which in this case would be the students and staff of MTHS. It’s intended to be pronounced “EH-soh-TAIR-us” to sound like you’re saying “ESO-Terrace.” This edition is a product of the Creative Writing Club (CWC) – the group of students who meet each Monday and Friday at 2 p.m. in Room 110 under the guidance of club president Robbie Mize and adviser Christina Lewis. Working in cooperation with HSM/Hawkeye, the CWC has published several pages of work in editions of this year’s paper with the intent of eventually returning to publishing its own magazine in the future with the assistance of HSM. If you’re interested in joining CWC or submitting poems, short stories, photos and/or two dimensional art, please contact the CWC at one of its meetings.
EDITOR’S NOTE: The artwork on the first page was created by sophomore Mudabrah Amber.
