greetings! A very warm welcome to your Gingerbread Gazette readers and seeing as it’s officially the season to be jolly, Merry Christmas! December, the month of celebrations, festivities and pure love; we cannot simply get enough of this month. Times are stranger than ever before, but as ever, we’re here to sprinkle some joy whilst lifting your spirits. In this issue, we talk about the magic of Christmas, introduce our Christmas range of gingerbread and address a heartfelt letter to all of our loved ones.

THE MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS! I T ’S T H E M O S T W O N D E R F U L T I M E O F T H E Y E A R , H E R E ’S E X A C T L Y W H Y ! We wait all year for this special season to finally come around; gatherings, gifting and gorgeous foods - it’s truly what Christmas is all about. A time where families, friends, neighbours and colleagues get together and celebrate the most magical time of the year. Christmas parties, family gatherings, winter walks, festive markets, Christmas shopping and more - a handful of wonderful elements that create incredible memories. However, this year, the festive season poses tough challenges for us and our loved ones, with restrictions in place, for some of us we cannot celebrate in usual style. Unfortunately, for some of us, we have endured the loss of a loved one due to the current health crisis and for some of us, COVID-19 has created a loss of hope, cheer and joy. Let’s take this moment to remember what Christmas is all about… As November comes to an end, people across the world ponder what their Christmas decorations will entail this year; beautiful baubles, captivating ceramics, wonderful wreaths, fabulous floral arrangements, mischievous mistletoe and more!
As we flick through our Instagram and Pinterest feeds, we save and screenshot the best Christmas themes in sheer excitement, longing for the day we can deck the halls and decorate the trees. Brothers and sisters argue about whose turn it is to place the star/angel at the very top, whilst mums choose themed wrapping paper for presents under the tree - meanwhile, dads are searching the attic for past Christmas decorations. It’s truly a season to be jolly, a season to appreciate the loved ones around us. From spending the crisp and cold evening snuggling on the sofa watching Tim Evans play the perfect Santa Claus to secretly purchasing presents for our loved ones, there’s nothing quite like the month of December. Some of us anticipate a ‘white Christmas’ whilst some of us hope for a spot of sunshine, perfect for a stroll in the
park on Christmas morning. Table settings and turkeys; Christmas carols and christingles; nativities and nutcrackers; mulled wine and mince pies; eggnog and Elf; ribbon and the perfect… roast! Everything that Christmas is made and all things that create the fondest memories for generations to come. The fabulousness of Christmas is matchless - a season filled with opulence, a once in a year celebration to embrace the finest things in life. Someone tells us that this year, the naughty list ceases to exist - a concept that has the Hawkens Gingerbread team jumping for joy. Christmas food is always a hot topic; meats, biscuits, snacks, vegetables, beverages, breads and more the festive season is never complete without a spread of mouthwatering foods, cooked and baked to perfection by our families and friends. Most recently, we have launched our Gingernuts, Mini Christmas Trees and Magic Stars; cartons of lip-licking concoctions of ginger spice and all things nice! Complete with a blend of sweetness and spice, our gingerbread are well renowned for delivering warmth during the festivities, whether as a gift or to enjoy alone. Our love for our siblings for getting it completely right (and sometimes wrong) with Christmas gifting. Our love for our postmen/women for delivering our Christmas cards from our loved ones across the world. Our love for our friends who we raise our glasses with for yet another year of great memories. Christmas is a glorious season, allowing us to show our love towards those who matter the most. A season where we all unite, to spread warmth,
affection and copious amounts of joy. Tiers, restrictions and reduced times to spend with our loved ones will not stop us from reminiscing about the Christmas past and anticipating the Christmas future. We will always remember those special moments that stimulated smiles bigger than you can imagine; we will always appreciate the welcomed chaos of cooking Christmas dinner and we will always embrace the moments of our loved ones who do all they can to ensure we experience the best Christmas, year after year. Christmas time may be unusual this year and it may cause some heart ache, however let's take these moments to take a trip down memory lane and remember that normality will resume in good time for next year's festivities.

GINGERBREAD CHRISTMAS TREES! EASY PEASY FESTIVE RECIPE, PERFECT FOR THE KIDS!
Because without gingerbread, is it really Christmas? A quick and fun recipe for all to enjoy!
INGREDIENTS 75g softened butter 50g caster sugar ½ tsp bicarbonate of soda 50g golden syrup 2 egg yolks 250g plain flour ½ tsp ground cinnamon ½ tsp ground ginger
method Heat oven to 180C/fan 160C/gas 4. Beat together the softened butter with the caster sugar until creamy. Stir in bicarbonate of soda, golden syrup and the egg yolks. Sift in the plain flour and ground cinnamon and ground ginger then bring together with a wooden spoon. Shape into two balls, knead until the dough comes together, then chill for 30 mins. Roll out one ball at a time, to about 2 x £1 coin thickness. Stamp out trees with a 7cm cutter, then re-roll the trimmings. Lift dough onto greased baking sheets and bake for 10-12 mins until slightly risen and golden brown. Cool on a wire rack. Let the kids ice once cool!
