European urban typologies like the Italian Piazza, Parisian Arcades, and German Bier Gartens blend urban spaces with human scale objects. For example, the medieval Piazza de Campo in Siena features shell shape paving which anchors public engagement with awnings, balconies, and fountains, while Cafe Florian in Venice demonstrates furniture integration into exterior facades, shaping public activities. This understanding allows scrutiny of interior design’s role in defining communal spaces, furniture’s functions, and the impact of pavement patterning on movement and social interaction. Drawing from historic spaces, this thesis evaluates a public space in Los Angeles’ Arts District, analyzing spatial configuration, furniture use, and the influence of pavement design on user experience, aimed at enriching Los Angeles’ public spaces.
Choosing a set precedence for my thesis was crutial as a guideline for gauging the efficacy of social interaction as well as determining which applied qualities worked better the selected space.
The Los Angeles location was selected because of its multitude of diverse cultural communities, different economic statuses, as well as downtown LA’s lack of public community spaces. Although downtown holds a lot of rich cultural significance in many areas, it also possesses numerous underutilized spaces that could serve the local residents as well as integrate the growing set of businesses.

The New Year Clinic’s design originated with the poem called “Everything is exactly the same as it was the day before “ by Ina Cariño. The poem recalled the wave of emotions felt by a little girl on the night of the Fourth of July, as she spent time with her family knowing all the fun she had would end.
Using the poem as the guiding form strategy as well as the research from the fixed location in Baltimore, MD. The site bloomed into a place were many could explore all the same emotions felt in the poem while also having opportunities for relief.
POEM ANALYSIS
New Year on my mountain EVERYTHING IS EXACTLY THE SAME AS IT WAS THE DAY BEFORE BY INA CARINO
mama says: long noodles, long life, so I slurp them loud, drink gingery broth—polka-dot beads of sweat forming as my nose hovers over the soup’s steam. circles for luck.
circles on my dress. papa says: make a lot of noise! so the children bang on pots & pans to hush yesterday’s demons. later, in the cold,
the family plods up the hill to wonder at the fireworks, sky like a warzone lit with spraying flames from Roman Candles— fire on the ground from Watusi whips snaking & coiling, sizzling our feet.
I feel it all in my chest— a drumming, a warning, a spell.
back in the yard, granny doles out rice & meat, pineapple liquor, glass bottles of Sprite. but I am snoring by midnight, my sisters & I still swathed in red chiffon.
by morning, I cry because I missed it. I cry because they say I’m not alone. I cry because home is a warning, its pulse a whiff of flint in the dark.

The parklet designed for Alta in West Adams Los Angeles was in collaboration with Woodbury University’s Inside Out program and the Los Angeles Department of Transportation. This project’s initiative was to aid small businesses during the slow opening of COVID-19 restrictions, while maintaining LADOT guidelines and reenvisioning Al Fresco outdoor dining guidlines.

CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE
CRAFTED TALISMAN
Alta West Adams is a second home to many. They serve comfort food while also introducing West African flavors to the commonly known soul food culture.
Alta’s warm atmosphere makes it a hub for community gatherings, with it’s rustic yet colorful interior. Alta has become a place where friend gather and are met with good food and an enviroment that embraces community.
EXISTING SITE ANALYSIS
After disecting the characteristics of Alta, that same essense needed to be reflected in the dining parklet.
Then applying the LA Al Fresco guidelines, a program and inferred circulation guided the future design.

HYPERLOOP IN LA
AN INTERIOR APPROACH TO URBAN SPACE
Woodbury University | Studio 3 | Fall 2021 Professor Heather Scott Peterson
The objective was to study public transportation and use the findings to design a concept Hyperloop station that would reach from Los Angeles to Mexico with an estimated travel time of 1 hour and 20 minutes. This research was conduted during the climax of the Covid-19 pandemic that seemed to create many issues for what public transportation once was.

What does home mean to you?
Home is the warmth of the women in my life. As I close this chapter in my life receiving my bachelor’s degree as a first-generation college student, I cannot help but be reminded of the home that made it possible for me. A home full of women who supported me immensely as well as having their own dreams of coming to the States from Puerto Rico and Costa Rica after generations of settlement.
My knowledge of making has been passed down from generation to generation, with my great grandmother Illuminada being a ceramics artist running her own studio from her home in Humacao Puerto Rico. My grandmother teaching me textile making as well as being a landscape artist. Finally with my mother expressing herself throughout the seasons through interior design. On top of their own passions, being homemakers that were challenged with binding together family that fell in and out of a multitude of hardships and successes. With the strength of religion, the resilience of being mothers, and artists of their own, this piece seeks to encapsulate the essense of this lineage, a fusion of heritage and innovation, tradition and modernity. Crafted with care and imbedded with the spirit of generations past, Illuminada is a tangible embodiment of love, strength, and the enduring power of the women that raised me.

LOVEKNOT
PERFORMANCE ART FURNITURE PIECE
It is said falling in love is one of the most psychologically potent experiences in human life. Trying to find the age old mystery of what is love and does exist? Through my analysis of love I had to confront everything I thought about it, how I love, how am I loved, where is it seen, what qualities does have? What does it mean to be loved and can I love?
experiences does it thought I knew does love
The piece is meant to be knotted by 2 or more individuals, since the material is so thick and long it is neccessary for two individuals to work together. In the end, two knots are created acting a stools.
This creates a safe space for couples, uncomfortable interactions, rekindling relationships, or even confronting oneself. Forcing the participants to face each other.
Understanding love and proxemics was also necessary to judge the strength of feeling loved. Somatic conditions of love were also needed to be researched in consideration for material.
