I

n the world of professional football, Jay Cutler’s name resonates with strength, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of excellence. Over the course of his illustrious NFL career, Cutler donned the jerseys of several iconic teams, faced intense scrutiny both on and off the field, and garnered invaluable lessons from the likes of legendary coaches and teammates. But life after professional sports is an equally remarkable journey for this former quarterback. Today, Cutler stands as a multi-faceted entrepreneur, a devoted father, and a passionate advocate for the great outdoors. I was given the opportunity to connect with him and delve into his kind heart and mind, exploring his transformative experiences in the NFL, his inspiring transition into post-football life, and his exciting ventures, Outsider the brand which includes Outside cigar, Gratis beer and other authentic goods, that are changing the game in the worlds of cigars, craft beer, and outdoor lifestyle. Jay’s NFL journey began with the Denver Broncos, where he had the privilege of working under the guidance of head coach Mike Shanahan. The Broncos were an older team with numerous veterans, including notable names like Champ Bailey, John Lynch, Jake Plummer, Tommy Nalen, Brandon Stokley, and many others. Being surrounded by these experienced players was invaluable to Jay’s development as a quarterback. “Being around Mike, Champ Bailey, John Lynch, Jake Plummer, Tommy Nalen, Brandon Stokley, and a ton of other veterans was extremely beneficial. They showed me what the NFL was all about and how to be a pro,” said Jay. They showed him what it meant to be a true professional in the NFL, setting the foundation for his future success. The life of an NFL quarterback comes with tremendous pressure and scrutiny, both on and off the field. Jay tackled the mental and emotional aspects of the game with a nuanced approach. “I think we have to separate things on and off the field. These players are still humans, they have families and do daily mundane things like everyone else.” He emphasized the importance of separating life on and off the field, recognizing

that NFL players, despite their fame, are still just like all of us, human beings with families and daily routines. This perspective helped him maintain focus and balance. Jay also acknowledged the significance of mental health and sought support from a sports psychologist who provided performance-enhancing tips. Additionally, he emphasized overall wellness, incorporating practices like infrared saunas, cold plunges, float pods, and a commitment to healthy eating to maintain peak physical and mental condition as he aged. Transitioning from the highly structured world of professional sports to retirement presented a unique set of challenges for Jay. The camaraderie of the locker room and the adrenaline of playing the sport he loved were tough to replicate in everyday life. However, he understood that every chapter in life, regardless of its nature, has its share of ups and downs. Jay’s philosophy was simple: he couldn’t play football forever, so he aimed to find something he was passionate about and surround himself with people he respected and enjoyed working with. Fatherhood to Jay Cutler is an incredibly rewarding journey, filled with joy and precious moments. Jay cherishes his role as a father, finding immense joy in helping shape his children’s lives. He emphasizes the importance of making the most of the limited time spent with them as they grow up. Balancing his personal and professional life can be challenging, as he never wants to miss significant moments in his children’s lives. “Fatherhood is amazing; to be able to help shape these kids’ lives is very rewarding. It goes by super fast, though; you only get so much time in front of them, so you have to maximize it.” However, technology has allowed him to stay connected even when he can’t be physically present. As he looks ahead, Jay anticipates the teenage years, which he acknowledges will bring new and exciting challenges. Jay explained that his journey took an exciting turn when he joined forces with a friend, Shannon Terry, who had previously founded Rivals.com and 24/7 Sports. The idea for Outsider emerged during the COVID-19 pandemic when they felt the need for a platform that appealed to a broader audience. Outsider represents more than just a brand; it embodies a lifestyle that celebrates outdoor adventures and shared experiences. This venture also led to the creation of the Outsider cigar. Having grown up with a father who had a love for cuban cigars, I was intrigued to learn more about the Outsider cigars and what exactly that meant to Jay. Creating an Outsider cigar involved a journey to the Dominican Republic, where Jay and his team collaborated with the Kelner Boutique Factory. They sampled four different cigars, and the very first one immediately stood out as the winner. “We went down to the Dominican Republic and met with the Kelner Boutique Factory. He had four different cigars rolled for us to try. The very first one was by far the winner. We all knew it immediately.” The cigar features an Ecuadorian Connecticut wrapper aged 3-4 years, a Monte Plata binder aged 6-7 years, and Criollo 98 and Pelo de Oro fillers. Hand-rolled at the Kelner Factory, the Outsider cigar offers a mild yet flavorful smoking experience. It’s designed to be enjoyed on any occasion, reflecting its versatility and accessibility.

“Fatherhood is amazing; to be able to help shape these kids’ lives is very rewarding. It goes by super fast, though. You only get so much time in front of them, so you have to maximize it.” Jay’s vision for Outsider is ambitious. Over the next 12 months, the brand aims to establish relationships with major retailers to market and sell its drinkware on a larger scale. They are also focusing on expanding their social media presence with outdoor lifestyle content, appealing to fellow Outsiders who share a passion for adventure. Outsider plans to continue growing its cigar line and Gratis Beer, both of which are already in full production and distribution. You can find the authentic goods on Outsider.com and purchase cigars directly from Jay6cigar.com In the next three to five years, Jay envisions Outsider becoming a household name, encouraging people to embrace the great outdoors. He anticipates that their drinkware will surpass competitors, and they’ll introduce new product lines, further solidifying Outsider as an easy-going brand with broad appeal. Jay’s passion for cars led him to one of the most iconic brands in the automotive industry, Ferrari. Jay consulted with his close personal friend, Jason Lozon, that he had been buying cars from for over 15 years which is what led him to the brand. “I wanted to get into Ferrari’s, I had always been fascinated by the car and how amazing they are.” Working with Ferrari has been a fantastic experience, as they’ve helped Jay acquire several incredible cars. He eagerly looks forward to adding more to his collection in the future. Infact, Jay is allotted the newest launch for Ferrari, The Ferrari Purosangue—the first ever four-door, four-seater car in Ferrari’s history. When it comes to dining in Naples, Jay’s favorite haute spot is Osteria Tulia. After building his relationship with Ferrari, Jay attended F1 Miami, where he was introduced to Chef Vincenzo. Naturally, they hit it off sharing similar interests in the Naples market. Chef and owner Vincenzo Betulia’s culinary expertise shines through, making it a place Jay continuously enjoys visiting. He appreciates the diverse menu and the restaurant’s laid-back atmosphere which to me is no surprise. Anyone who has attended a Formula One race knows there is an exhilarating blend of speed, precision, and cutting-edge technology that define the high stake motorsport.

“Outsider is about embracing the great outdoors, celebrating freedom, and connecting with fellow outsiders. It’s more than a brand; it’s a lifestyle that encourages everyone to step outside.”

As someone who thrived in the world of professional football, Cutler had a deep appreciation for the dedication and skill required to compete at the highest level, and Formula One offered a thrilling parallel. The fusion of engineering marvels, fearless drivers, and the pursuit of fractions of a second on the track resonates with his competitive spirit. Watching these finely-tuned machines roar down the circuits and witnessing the tactical battles between teams was not just a spectacle but a testament to human ingenuity and ambition, qualities that Cutler admires both on and off the field. Jay and his team ventured into the beer industry with Gratis in a highly competitive market. The journey began about a year ago in Nashville, with a clear focus on establishing the brand as a local favorite. Their primary goal was to create a beer that tasted great and was also brewed locally in Nashville. With American ale, lager, and summer ale offerings, Gratis started slow but steady growth. They have found a reliable partner in Jason Sheer, a seasoned figure in the Nashville scene who has opened numerous bars and restaurants. Together, they are gradually making their mark with Gratis beer. Its commitment to quality and locality sets Gratis apart from the competition. By brewing their beer in Nashville, they create a sense of community and connection with their consumers. Jay and his team are excited about the prospect of expanding their beer offerings in the future, catering to an even broader audience. Now, when it comes to the perfect pairing, Gratis beer and Outsider cigars make for an excellent combination. The mild and slightly sweet notes of the Outsider cigar complement the flavor profile of Gratis beer beautifully, offering enthusiasts a delightful and relaxing experience. As Jay Cutler continues to venture into new territories with Outsider, Gratis, and his various other projects, it’s evident that his dedication and passion remain as strong as ever. His journey from the NFL spotlight to entrepreneurship is a testament to his ability to adapt and thrive in diverse fields. Jay’s story serves as an inspiration for anyone looking to navigate life’s transitions with grace, resilience, and a willingness to embrace new challenges. While Jay acknowledges that there’s no replacing the thrill of being on the football field and the camaraderie of the locker room, he has successfully transitioned into a life beyond the NFL. Being around his children as they grow up has brought new and rewarding experiences. His involvement with

Outsider, Gratis, and his work with the NFL, CW, and CBS has been fulfilling and exciting. Jay’s engagement with the NFL, CW, and CBS showcases his enduring connection to the sport that catapulted him to stardom. After retiring from professional football, Cutler seamlessly transitioned into a new role as an NFL analyst and commentator. His insightful analysis and in-depth understanding of the game quickly made him a sought-after figure in sports broadcasting. Cutler’s presence on NFL broadcasts brings a unique perspective, allowing fans to gain deeper insights into the intricacies of the sport he once excelled in. His charisma and ability to break down complex plays make him a valuable asset to the network, further solidifying his legacy in the football world. In addition to his work with the NFL, Cutler has extended his reach to include CW and CBS. These endeavors have allowed him to explore new horizons and broaden his creative portfolio. Whether it’s through hosting television shows, providing expert commentary, or participating in diverse projects, Jay Cutler’s contributions to the media landscape continue to captivate audiences and underscore his versatility beyond the football field. As Outsider and Gratis continue to grow and evolve in the years ahead, Jay Cutler’s legacy will extend beyond the football field, leaving a mark in the worlds of outdoor lifestyle, cigars, and craft beer. With a clear vision and an unwavering commitment to excellence, he’s well on his way to making Outsider and Gratis household names, embodying the spirit of adventure and camaraderie that defines the brand. Following my conversation with Jay, I discovered his admirable character, warm-hearted nature, deep affection for his children, and shared passion for the outdoors, traits that resonate with numerous individuals in the Naples community. Naples, renowned for its scenic allure, lively community, and culinary pleasures, occupies a special corner in Jay Cutler’s heart. It’s more than just a destination; it’s a sanctuary where he can unwind, indulge in exquisite dining experiences, and foster lifelong connections. The city’s charm, exemplified by spots like Osteria Tulia, resonates with Cutler’s appreciation for laid-back atmospheres and culinary excellence. Moreover, his partnership with Naples Ferrari not only fuels his passion for high-performance automobiles but also embodies the essence of luxury and precision that he values. Naples is more than a location; it’s a testament to Jay Cutler’s enduring love for the finer things in life, making it a cherished part of his journey beyond the NFL. outsider.com

OLD VINES NAPLES

AT MERCATO OPENING THIS FALL Old Vines makes its debut in North Naples at Mercato this fall! Haute Living Naples had the opportunity to sit down with the owners, Jon Ellms and Rick Taranto, and managing director and partner Brooke Kravetz to discuss their upcoming restaurant. BY DARBY KORDONOWY

Haute Living: Tell me about the history of Old Vines. Jon Ellms: Yes, Old Vines started in 2009 as a wine bar in Kennebunk. It later became a wine and cocktail bar and then evolved into a restaurant. Brooke started her career here as a chef. We purchased it in 2015 because we loved it and didn’t want to see it close. We were part-time residents here in Kennebunk, and eventually, we moved full-time. We both have jobs in other industries. Rick works in scientific research, and I work in pharmaceutical marketing. We moved here full-time in 2020, right around the time of the COVID pandemic. HL: Brooke, you started working as a chef at Old Vines in Kennebunk in 2010, right after the wine bar opened? Brooke Kravetz: Yes, I started doing a bit of everything and then took over in the kitchen. Back then, the entire kitchen was just a server station beside the bar. We served paninis, a few nice salads, a flatbread or two, small tapas bites, cheese and charcuterie, and chicken meatballs, which are still among our top sellers today.

34

HAUTE LIVING NAPLES

HL: In 2023, you began an exciting project. You envisioned and created the Old Vines Supper Club, a unique concept in Naples that elevated our local culinary scene to a new level. Could you share how you came up with this concept? BK: Naples is a town of fine dining. Our aim is to offer a unique dining experience that is intimate and elegant but not stuffy. The plan had been on my mind for a decade. I wanted to create a small space serving tasting menus, chef’s tasting menus in particular, with a strong focus on seasonal and local ingredients. Considering the timeframe and ongoing events, it seemed like the perfect time to launch. HL: Tell us about the new location, Old Vines Naples Mercato. What’s the design concept, and what will the menu be like? Rick Taranto: The design will be sexy and timeless. BK: We’re incorporating similar design elements from the original location, like the colors and the intimate, slightly dark interiors. This contrasts with the bright white interiors common in Florida. Features such as red velvet curtains and some of our favorite artwork will be brought in from the old location. RT: A lot of the furniture is built by a local artisan, Americana furniture in Kennebunk, including bar tops and tabletops made of reclaimed barn wood. We are investing in a Hestan line in the kitchen that is flawless. Thomas Keller uses it in all of his restaurants. We want to attract the best of the best. Our style and food are clean and elegant. JE: The light fixtures were inspired by the wine museum, La Cité du Vin, in Bordeaux. We aim to do things differently, adding unique and cheeky touches. HL: What is the space like at Old Vines Mercato? BK: Our indoor dining room seats about 80. We have three different experiences at Mercato: a sunny front patio with umbrellas, a secluded side alleyway with tall planters and nice lighting, and an indoor area with darker interiors. The outdoor spaces can be rented for private parties. The restaurant seats approximately 180 people. HL: Will there be a bar or a place to sit and watch the chefs at work? BK: Yes, we have a 16-seat bar and a chef counter with six seats. You’ll be able to watch as food is being prepared and plated. We also have a station for oysters, chilled seafood, cheese, and charcuterie boards.

HL: What is the vibe of the Old Vines Mercato? JE: We’re trying to keep it similar to Old Vines Wine Bar, which is a rustic barn, but it’s a newer building down there, so similar pallets, but it’ll be more of a contemporary design with more sparkle. RT: It’ll feel familiar to our guests. It’s not the same but elevated. Each restaurant fits its own identity and location. JE: The Mercato location will be closer to the Old Vines Wine Bar in terms of the menu and a la carte, and there will be a great cocktail list and a great wine list, but it will also be different. We try to cater to the local tastes and clientele and source as much as we possibly can locally. The wine list will be different but similar. HL: Let’s dive into the menu. What should guests expect? BK: Our new venture, Mercato, will offer a menu with a local focus similar to Old Vines Supper Club. The format will resemble Old Vines Wine Bar, featuring smaller plates and an à la carte option for more variety. We’re excited to have Chef Dan Swofford, known for his experience at The Cave Bistro & Wine Bar, The Painted Lady Restaurant in Oregon wine country, Eleven Madison Park, Dovetail, and Modern at the Museum of Modern Art, leading our culinary team. We’re also offering a selection of 10 cheeses and charcuterie that you can customize for your own boards. Our team is ready and looking forward to this new adventure.

HL: Will there be any gluten-free or vegan options on the menu? BK: Of course. We’ve always accommodated dietary restrictions. Most of our dishes are naturally gluten-free, and we also have plenty of vegan and vegetarian options. HL: How will the wine program at Old Vines Naples at Mercato cater to the wine community and collectors in Naples? BK: Our wine director, Zach Bingham, formerly from The Cave Bistro & Wine Bar, oversees our climate-controlled wine lockers crafted in New Hampshire, maintained at 55 degrees for optimal readiness. Locker holders enjoy discounts, exclusive event invitations to wine dinners, quarterly tastings, and access to sought-after wines. We will have a 500-bottle, temperaturecontrolled cellar with a diverse selection, including oaky Cabernet and Chardonnay, as well as eclectic, rediscovered oldworld options to please Naples’ wine enthusiasts. For private gatherings or rehearsal dinners, consider our Supper Club, seating up to 30 guests. HL: Will you have biodynamic options and wines from small vineyards? JE: We primarily work with small family vineyards, and we want our wine list to be unique. The prior owner believed that underappreciated grapes and small vineyards offer surprisingly good value. It is about knowing where to scout. For example, there are great producers in Austria and Lebanon. RT: We want to create an opportunity for our staff to educate our guests and try something new. We want to make it fun, exciting, and new. HL: So, the wine list at Old Vines Naples at Mercato will be different from most of the restaurants in Naples? BK: Wine is at the heart of our operation. We can store and present 500 different bottles. At least half of that will be underrepresented regions, grapes, winemakers, and smaller family production. But we’ll also offer familiar staples as well. Wine tastes are different in Florida and Maine, and we’ll tailor our wine cellar to appeal to both. Old Vines Mercato is slated for a fall grand opening and will be open seven days a week from 1 p.m.–5 p.m. for late lunch offering, 5–10 p.m. for dinner service, and 10–12 a.m. for a latenight menu.

A NEW ERA Jean Arnault writes a new chapter for Louis Vuitton watchmaking with the new Tambour. BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE

IN 2021, THE WATCH INDUSTRY WAS ABUZZ AS JEAN ARNAULT,

In 2002, Louis Vuitton made a significant mark in the watchmaking industry with the introduction of the Tambour watch. Known for its distinctive drum-shaped case and innovative interpretation of time, the Tambour quickly became one of the brand’s iconic timepieces. Now, after 21 years, under the direction of Arnault, Louis Vuitton unveils the next evolution of the Tambour, featuring a slimmer design characterized by exceptional craftsmanship, casual elegance, and fluid lines — making it quite the retreat from its predecessors. The Tambour watch is instantly recognizable by its round case, curved sides, and the 12 letters spelling “Louis Vuitton” around its bezel. These defining elements are meticulously maintained and amplified in the latest iteration of the Tambour. The new model boasts a modern, unisex 40-millimeter diameter; a slim 8.3-millimeter case thickness; and an integrated bracelet, a Louis Vuitton first. The bracelet’s curved links provide a comfortable fit on the wrist, rivaling the softness of a leather strap. Every aspect of the Tambour’s design serves a purpose, from the ergonomically shaped caseback that follows the curve of the forearm to the seamlessly integrated bracelet that melds with the case, resulting in a truly harmonious timepiece. Craftsmanship is at the heart of the new Tambour, evident in its thoughtful detailing and tactile finishes. The brushed surfaces, polished chamfers, and drum-shaped crown with soft grooves make for a sensory indulgence when interacting with

the watch. The sandblasted bezel features raised and polished letters, precisely sculpted to align with the hour markers. The dial showcases impressive depth and three-dimensionality, with recessed five-minute markers and appliques for the hours. Thanks to the use of Super-LumiNova, the dial remains legible even in low-light conditions. The openworked white gold hands not only enhance visibility but also create a sense of space on the dial. The central brushed dial section proudly displays “Louis Vuitton Paris,” signifying the brand’s origins, while “Fab. En Suisse” below the small seconds counter pays tribute to La Fabrique du Temps Louis Vuitton, emphasizing the exceptional craftsmanship behind this timepiece. Inside, the new Tambour beats to the Caliber LFT023 — a proprietary automatic three-hand movement designed by Louis Vuitton in collaboration with Le Cercle des Horlogers. This movement perfectly embodies the Maison’s visual codes and features a barrel cover reminiscent of the Monogram Flower and a micro-rotor decorated with a stylized “LV” motif. The contemporary aesthetics continue with micro-sandblasted bridges, polished edges, chamfers, and a circular-grained main plate. The Caliber LFT023 boasts a high-inertia, 22-karat gold micro-rotor and a peripheral gearing system, enabling efficient winding and a power reserve of 50 hours. Certified as a chronometer by the Geneva Chronometric Observatory, this movement meets the highest standards of timekeeping accuracy. With the introduction of the new Tambour watch, a glimpse into the incredibly promising future of Louis Vuitton watchmaking is revealed. It’s been said that Louis Vuitton will cut about 80% of its watch collection to focus on upscaling its timepieces, and we can’t wait to see what is next with Arnault at the helm.

the youngest Arnault in the LVMH Group, stepped into his role in the Watch Division at Louis Vuitton. Last year, Arnault officially rose to the lead role as the watch director with a vision for the brand that the watch industry was patiently awaiting to uncover. Through teasers on his Instagram here and there, Arnault slowly revealed his style and keen sense of the industry — and if there’s one thing we’re certain of, Jean may be the youngest Arnault, but he has quite the mature spirit.

HAUTE CEO Jean-Marc Pontroué, CEO of Panerai. BY ADRIENNE FAUROTE

After holding positions at esteemed watch brands like Montblanc and Roger Dubuis, Pontroué joined Panerai in April 2018. Since Pontroué has been at the helm of the Panerai brand, he has brought its history and story to the modern era with incredible storytelling through global Panerai openings, new timepiece releases, and synergistic partnerships. Ahead, we go on the clock with Pontroué, discussing everything from this year’s Watches and Wonders novelties and the opening of Casa Panerai in New York to what’s next for the Panerai brand this year. Haute Time: Can you walk us through Panerai’s theme at Watches and Wonders this year? Jean-Marc Pontroué: When we started thinking about the 2023 Watches and Wonders exhibition two years ago, we wanted to have something with three stages, like the very first fairs where Panerai showcased at over 100 years ago. So, this year is all about our heritage. Here, in our world, all of the pieces in the windows are antique — not replicas — which is really rare. We [also] have some watches with original movements. The booth concept is inspired by Eilean, a Bermudan ketch from the 1930s we found abandoned and in a state of advanced disrepair on the island of Antigua in 2006. The boat underwent a complete restoration that took over three years to complete. It has naturally become part of Panerai heritage. The booth is designed as a journey to immerse in its icons, brand pillars, and above all, the Radiomir collection for aficionados as well as those interested in Panerai’s rich history. HT: What is your favorite timepiece this year? JP: This one (as he points to his wrist) — the Radiomir California. It is inspired by the historic Ref. 3646 from the archives of the Maison. The California dial is characterized by alternating Roman and Arabic numerals, bar indexes, and a minute track. The California showcases a characteristic antiquated look, accentuating its appeal to watch connoisseurs in search of authenticity and storied timepieces. As you can see, it wasn’t necessary to have the name on the dial because you immediately know it is Panerai.

42

HAUTE LIVING NAPLES

HT: What are your goals for Panerai for the 2023 year? JP: Watches and Wonders, for me, is like a fashion show. It’s your staging ceremony; we don’t really need it to sell to trade partners because they have seen most of the novelty pieces before the show. But what is key is that they can come here and touch, see, and experience the product in reality. It is also an occasion where we can meet press face to face. The beauty of the watch fair is being around so many people within a week. So, our intention at Panerai this year is to do what I often say: change everything without changing anything. To keep the Maison as it is, you change everything, but you change nothing. The Radiomir collection embodies this philosophy. You can change the colors and materials, but the shape of the Radiomir remains the same. It is the celebration of a timeless design but, above all, of our heritage. HT: On that note, congratulations on the New York Casa Panerai opening. Can you walk us through the process of creating Casa Panerai? JP: It’s a project we started five years ago. Being in what is the most successful market for Panerai and a major city in America, we had a presence in New York, but not at the height that the brand deserved to be at. In fact, our presence in Miami or LA was far better than in New York [before Casa Panerai]. We had been researching and receiving hundreds of proposals, but then the pandemic hit, and the project slowed down. It has been conceived and designed entirely by the Panerai Studio, the Maison’s in-house creative agency based in Milan. Today, we have created Casa Panerai. We wanted to have a flagship store in a strategic position to make a statement: Madison Avenue was the perfect location to strengthen our presence in the heart of New York, reflecting the vitality of its streetscape. It’s a great milestone for us, as it is also our largest boutique ever; this is how we wanted the brand to exist in the city. HT: What is the Casa Panerai concept? JP: The Casa Panerai is a concept we introduced with the New York store. For us, [the term] “Casa Panerai” summarizes well what we mean. Our boutiques are places to live; it is first a hospitality center — that happens to sell watches. We are here to excite your curiosity as to what the Italian roots of the brand are while also showing what we are doing in Switzerland. It’s an Italian cocktail of creativity with Swiss-made ingredients.

PHOTOS COURTESY OF PANERAI

HAUTE TIME SAT DOWN WITH PANERAI’S CEO, JEAN-MARC Pontroué, during two major moments for the brand this year: Watches and Wonders 2023 in Geneva and his ribbon-cutting alongside Chris Pratt to mark the opening of Casa Panerai on Manhattan’s highly coveted Madison Avenue.

Here, customers will find both historical and contemporary timepieces and can interact with the watches without glass barriers. An immersive, multidimensional timeline will take visitors through all our milestones. For the very first time, we have a ladies’ department, dedicated to the Luminor Due collection. We have also introduced a lounge and bar area, serving Italian coffee and beverages. Indeed, we called it Bar Italiano. This is to create this slightly disruptive approach in the industry and a welcoming experience. The fact of being Italian, of being a family business, and of being a watchmaker brand is all so special. For newcomers to the Maison, Casa Panerai tells them the unique story of Panerai, and for those familiar, it reminds them of it. HT: Casa Panerai is a monumental moment for the brand. Does this set the tone for Panerai’s expansion in the United States market? JP: Absolutely. You have to be big in New York, and then that becomes a door opener to do what you want to do. This year, we are opening doors in locations such as Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Topanga, Palo Alto, Boston, Honolulu. We have a lot of new projects in the pipeline in America — I believe it’s about 30 store openings in 18 months. HT: Being at the helm of the brand and its massive global expansion, how do you look at time? JP: I would need an entire afternoon to reply to the question. I hate being late (it can happen easily), and I love to wake up early, at about 5:30 a.m., no matter where I am. It allows me to have a half hour only for myself where I can live in my bubble. It’s the moment of the day when I can sit with myself, my espresso, and my iPad to read the news, see my agenda, and get into my routine. For me, time is about getting into a rhythm.

From intimate events to personalized consultations, the AP House aims to deliver an exceptional client experience that reflects the brand’s distinctive heritage and craftsmanship. Living quite true to its name, the AP House is a home away from home for watch connoisseurs who are local or frequent the East Coast. McLaren Artura McLaren brings its “E” game. BY TIM LAPPEN

48

HAUTE LIVING NAPLES

FAITHFUL READERS KNOW THAT I HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART

for McLaren. I have driven most of their offerings and have enjoyed them all. There’s something that is unmistakable about the McLaren DNA — regardless of what’s on paper, the cars feel faster. No doubt it’s because of (or at least mostly due to) the famous McLaren suspension, which really involves the driver in the entire experience. Whatever the reason, that experience is both engaging and delightful. The Artura is the first of McLaren’s Supercar series to utilize hybrid power. Like McLaren’s Ultimate series P1 and Speedtail, the Artura combines a gasoline-powered motor (a twin-turbo V-6) with the immediacy of an electric motor for a combined 671 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. As one might expect with those metrics, the Artura can sprint from zero to 60 in three seconds flat and run up to a top speed of 205 miles per hour. McLaren’s claim to fame always has been lightness, and the Artura glides gracefully into that group with a 3,000-pound dry weight. With a lighter and stiffer aluminum frame than its predecessors and a carbon-fiber tub comprised of some 500 pieces, the Artura also features an entirely new electrical ethernet-based architecture that weighs less and provides far quicker data transmission rates than were enjoyed by previous models. The lightness and efficient electrical transfer also allow for an electricity fuel-efficiency rating of 39 mpg-e — even if the Artura runs in all-electric mode on a racetrack, there is no loss of performance. No wonder McLaren boasts that the Artura has 90% of the power available to the driver within two-tenths of a second! The Artura also provides an 80% battery charge in only 2.5 hours.

While experiencing an Artura at standstill is a joy, driving an Artura takes the pleasure to a much higher level. The car sits low, so entrance and egress require the right step-and-bend-and-slide that I mastered pretty quickly; of course, I have driven most of the McLarens, so I really felt at home right away. (I measure the ability to enter a supercar using the calculation of the size of the door opening times the driver’s age, agility, girth, and practice, divided by the pride of getting in (and out) in front of other people.) The controls fall easily to hand, and all the important switches, buttons, and levers are where one would expect. And leave it to McLaren to have a two-way paddle shifter, which allows the driver to pull back on the left paddle to downshift or push forward on the right lever to accomplish the same. Upshifts work with the same alternatives; pull back on the right or push forward with the left. That choice comes in handy when, for example, you’re about to reach for your mocha frappa cuppa on your morning commute. Everywhere I went with the Artura, it drew a crowd. While perhaps not as radical a design as some of its stablemates (I’m looking at you, Senna and Speedtail), it’s stunning in person, and the wild colors that McLaren makes available help with that sizzle and flash. “Mine” was a beautiful Paris Blue, a stunning medium color that looked great with the black wheels and yellow brake calipers. The black interior with red piping was a perfect complement to the looks. Onlookers’ smiles grew as I fired up the car, as the exhaust is loud but not harsh, which allowed the crowd to appreciate the sound without needing to cover their ears. To paraphrase Will Rogers, I’ve never met a McLaren that I didn’t like. McLaren, long a well-known race car brand that had produced one of the fastest production cars ever (the F1, constructed from 1993 to 1998), seriously entered the production road-car world with the MP412C in 2009. In the years since, their Supercar, GT, and Ultimate series of cars have gotten better and better. The Artura is a testament to that achievement and proves that McLaren can segue into the gas/electric world with all of the high-tech wizardry and driving enjoyment for which the company has been known since the beginning.

PHOTOS COURTESY OF M CLAREN

McLaren’s new eight-speed transmission is more compact than ever, which allows the Artura to have a shorter wheelbase, thereby increasing the car’s agility. The transmission size is helped by the fact that there is no reverse gear — the Artura utilizes the electric motor for backing up.

The design is fresh but still true to the McLaren DNA. The “S” swoosh of the headlights, the high dual exhausts above the bumper, the ground effects visible from the rear, and, of course, the scream of the engine at high rev all tell the world that there’s a McLaren in their midst.

Ferrari 812 GTS A superfast spider. BY TIM LAPPEN

“spiders” (or “spyders”) because the eight wooden stays that held open the fabric top on historic convertibles seemed to resemble the eight legs on an arachnid. Amazingly, that moniker has stuck around for decades, even when an octopede insect is hardly the image that marketing suits want to have pop up when one thinks of a svelte grand touring car — they would prefer that the car generate romantic notions of carving the roads along the Stelvio Pass or cruising the Amalfi Coast on the way to an epic rendezvous. The latter option always comes to mind when I am behind the wheel of a Ferrari, one where the more cylinders, the better. And the gorgeous Ferrari 812 GTS (for “gran turismo spider”) does not disappoint in the slightest. (Fans of the Ferrari 812 Superfast will be right at home in this iteration, as the two models are mechanically identical. And long-term fans of Ferrari will note that there is no “i,” which once was used to denote “injection,” following the “GTS”; virtually no car these days has carburetion, so it would be as superfluous as announcing “power steering and brakes.” Now, I am a fan of electrification of autos as much as the next guy. I mean, who doesn’t like instantaneous torque, for gosh sake? But the song of a finely tuned V-12 is both unmistakable and a siren’s call to those of us who long ago were baptized in the aural delight of a largedisplacement, dozen-cylinder Italian rolling opera. To partially explain my sound bias, I did buy records earlier in my life where, at a mere 33 rpms, I could hear the race cars at Sebring or the footsteps followed by engine cranks and fires at Le Mans, my mind racing with visions of race cars exploding into action.

50

HAUTE LIVING NAPLES

With that background in mind, is it any wonder that the 812 was love at first sound for me? Long gone are the “rer rer rer rer” sounds of the engine cranking before finally starting. The 812 is one of the new breed — a slight, short starter motor sound and we have ignition! I love the smell of petrol in the morning, but the sound of the 789-horsepower engine coming to life (the sound of “the most powerful production spider on the market,” says Ferrari) is worth the price of admission all by itself. But wait, there’s more! Again, it’s probably due to my early-childhood imprint, but the look of a long-hood, bobbed-tail GT two-seater does spark my heart. “Mine” for the week was in Blu Ahrabian, a beautiful deep blue that looked at once menacing and elegant. It was a great contrast to the Bordeaux leather interior and Nero black carpets. Even after just a quick look at the specs (about 6.5 liters, almost 530 pound-feet of torque, close to 800 ponies, and a sub-threesecond blast to 60 miles per hour), I knew before driving it that this gorgeous car was writing checks that the mechanicals easily could cash! Spirited driving that afternoon proved the point. But unlike some supercars, especially those of yesteryear, the 812 GTS is easy to live with. The convenience of a power-operated hardtop, for example, is great. With just a touch of a control, the top lowers in seconds and can even be put up or taken down at speeds up to about 30 miles per hour. Of course, it does impact the space in the trunk, but it’s a worthy trade-off. I am a top-down kind of guy, especially when that driving mode enhances the ability to listen to the melodic 12-pipe front organ, but it can rain in Los Angeles

PHOTOS COURTESY OF FERRARI

RUMOR HAS IT THAT SPORTS CARS WITH CONVERTIBLE TOPS ARE CALLED

(not often), so it’s nice not to have to run home to get the hardtop hanging from the ceiling of the garage or even stop by the roadside to unsnap the tonneau cover to get access to the folded top. Contrary to popular belief (“popular” in that there are daily postings to sites featuring wrecked exotics), having the money to buy an exotic car does not immediately qualify the owner as a capable driver of an exotic car. Ferrari apparently thought about that when designing some of the driving nannies that exist on the 812, such as: Ferrari Peak Performance, which gives the driver feedback via steering-wheel torque to advise that the 812 is nearing the limit of grip. (Apparently, the idea of a disembodied voice yelling “Watch out!” loudly through the car’s sound system was voted down.) Ferrari Power Oversteer, which again provides feedback via steering-wheel torque that the power being applied while exiting a corner is leading to the loss of the rear wheels’ ability to be at one with the road. (Also, see above “Watch out!” note.) Driving the 812 was a sheer delight. The looks, the sounds, the comfort, and the overall sensations were terrific, and I enjoyed my time with this Maranello masterpiece immensely. With a zeroto-60 run taking under three seconds and a top speed of over 211 miles per hour, it’s clearly a stormer. But it’s undoubtedly equally at home at the Oscars valet or the front drive at the opera. With a base price of about $425,000, “nicely equipped” will be well into the “5s,” and if you have a heavy pen and a fat wallet, you likely can see the “6s.” Mine was “very nicely equipped,” with well over $100,000 in options, such as special paint, carbon-fiber bits here and there (engine covers, wheel cups, sill covers, filter boxes, etc.), front suspension lifter, passenger display, and more (a lot more). However you decide to outfit your Ferrari 812 GTS, I am very confident that you will be thrilled with the result for many years to come.

IT MAY SURPRISE YOU TO LEARN THAT LUCID GROUP INC., THE COMPANY

behind one of the newest luxury all-electric vehicles, is based in the city of Newark, California. That location is across the bay from San Francisco, northeast of Stanford and the numerous hightech companies for which the area is known — appropriate given that the technology behind the company’s cars is as envelopestretching as anything coming out of Silicon Valley. And Lucid’s CEO and chief technology officer, Peter Rawlinson, has previously held numerous noteworthy positions according to the corporate website: vice president of vehicle engineering at Tesla and chief engineer of the Model S, head of vehicle engineering at Corus Automotive, chief engineer at Lotus Cars, and principal engineer at Jaguar Cars. Sounds like a perfect resume for a cutting-edge company manufacturing high-end electric cars. It also may surprise you that, after the car is designed in California, it is manufactured in Arizona. (You probably thought I was going to name an offshore location.) All Lucid Airs have the same basic body style — they all are four-door cars with room for a driver and five passengers (four passengers if you opt for Executive Rear Seating with plush reclining seats). And because Lucid has the only vehicle with a windshield glass that seamlessly extends into the roof all the way to the back (though some Lucids currently are offered only with a metal roof), the model name “Air” is apt given the open view afforded to all occupants. “My” Lucid Air was the Grand Touring Performance model, so that bumped the base price from $138,000 (for the Air Grand Touring) up to $179,000. But there were also a few other “bumps” — 1,050 horsepower (up from 819 horsepower for the nonPerformance version — woohoo!) and 0-60 in 2.6 seconds — but the range dropped slightly to 446 miles.. If I were the buyer, I would seriously consider the approximately $41,000 bump in price, even with slightly less range, to get the dramatic increase in performance. And I would pay extra still if there were an audio option that

would let the occupants and passersby hear the “engine” sound, especially if the song were of a flat-plane V-8 at full honk. I was lucky enough to have the luxurious Lucid for a week (the period just after Christmas through just after New Year’s) and was able to drive it to The Resort at Pelican Hill. The Lucid fits in really well at high-end locales, and judging by the Concours d’Valets (which is the only one that counts), the Lucid was a winner. (I could tell because they moved other cars so that the Lucid would be in the first parking spot.) Since the back seats fold flat, the Lucid is a wonderful travel car for two people with luggage, as it easily held everything that we brought. I didn’t really know what to expect when I first drove the Grand Touring Performance model. I have owned or leased electric cars for many years (starting with BMW’s experimental all-electric MINI-E in 2009) and love the feeling of immediate torque and heavy regenerative braking, but the increase in power, additional regen, and great fit and finish are what Lucid provides in great abundance. The Air does not feel like a newly developed car, as it is so well thought out and so well built that it feels like it’s been in production for years. I thought that a glass roof would provide too much heat gain and brightness, but I was pleasantly surprised that I had no issues with either, likely due to Lucid’s “heat and sunlight blocking technology.” Although beauty is clearly in the eye of the beholder, I liked the Air’s looks, coming and going — Lucid was very successful in differentiating the car’s appearance without being too gimmicky or annoying. I also enjoyed the fact that there was a lot of tech in the car and in the front and back lighting, which is fitting for a “car of the future.” I expect that Lucid will do well in the coming years, as the company’s ability to satisfy the needs of the buyers of luxury electric cars is great. I look forward to experiencing the carmaker’s Gravity SUV and to seeing what they come up with in the future. Lucid has shown rare talent in building a car that ticks all of the boxes and delivers all that it promises.

Bentley Bentayga Luxury, performance & room for luggage. BY TIM LAPPEN

atwitter (if one is allowed to use that word without paying a royalty) about anyone even considering building a luxury SUV? After all, Travelalls and Suburbans aside, starting in the late 1930s, the big SUVs were really more utilitarian, truck-like vehicles. With the rechristening of these tall station wagons as sport utility vehicles starting some four decades ago, they began to hit their stride. But when Lexus created the RX 300 in 1998 as the first luxury crossover vehicle and Porsche decided in 2002 to show the world what a luxury performance SUV could be like, buyers were intrigued. A few years later, however, the whole segment exploded in popularity; the International Energy Agency reports that, last year, almost 46% of all passenger cars sold in the world were SUVs. In 2015, Bentley introduced its luxury SUV, the Bentayga (named after a high rock outcropping on Gran Canaria, one of the Canary Islands), and within one year, it became the company’s top-selling model. Some of the Bentayga models come with a choice of engines; others come with only one motor option. But all of their engines basically belong in one of these three categories: W12 (Speed

54

HAUTE LIVING NAPLES

only), V-8, or hybrid. All Bentaygas have all-wheel drive (AWD), and all utilize an eight-speed transmission. The base prices for the Bentaygas range from about $200,000 to about $270,000, but most buyers will opt for at least a few add-ons. While it’s true that the Bentayga shares its basic engineering and design with its Volkswagen cousins, the Audi Q8 and the Lamborghini Urus, Bentayga focuses its attention on luxurious appointments, impeccable fit and finish, and a smooth yet powerful experience for both the driver and passenger. “My” Bentley SUV for the week was a gorgeous EWB Azure in stunning Portofino Blue with a Saddle main hide (brown leather seats, door inserts, and a few other bits) and Beluga secondary hide (black leather dash, seat backs, and most other areas). The EWB Azure offers only one motor choice: a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V-8 pumping out 542 horsepower and 568 lb-ft of torque, which are good enough to motivate the long SUV from 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds and to a top speed of 180 mph — with that maximum velocity, you and four friends can haul yourselves and your clubs to the course and play 18; you can then drop off your friends, get your groceries, and get arrested on the way home -— all on the same day.

My Bentayga EWB Azure exceeded all expectations. Not only was the color beautiful, but the list of options also added a whole other dimension to the experience … plus about $40,000 in extra choices. The biggest ticket was $11,195 for the Blackline Specification, where most of the otherwise-chrome bits are rendered in black metal. The Naim highend sound system added another $9,150, and the Touring Specification added $8,815 for some must-haves, including adaptive cruise control, head-up display, night vision, lane assist, and traffic assist. What I love about the Bentayga is that it is unmistakably a Bentley. Having driven most of the company’s models (including the GTs in Scotland, the Bentayga hybrids and newer GTs in Napa and Silicon Valley, and the Flying Spur in Monaco), I know that they are consistently elegant and extremely well finished. Everything that the eyes see or that the hands touch is made of quality materials. For example, many of the dash knobs are knurled (with small crisscrossed ridges) and feel like heavy steel — there’s not much plastic to be found anywhere. The leather seats and trim are supple, very supportive, and infinitely adjustable (thanks to 12 motors and three pneumatic valves). And Bentley’s postural adjustment system contains both motors and pneumatic activation zones. Did I enjoy my time with the Azure? Absolutely. It’s fast, comfortable, quiet, spacious, intriguing, and it fit in beautifully everywhere I went. Bentley points out that, when the extremely comfortable seats are coupled with the onboard fragrance and air purifier to provide the occupant a feeling of exceptional comfort, the Azure offers “a true sense of sanctuary and unique wellness features.” I doubt that means that you can deduct the cost of one as a medical expense, but I can attest that, after many miles at the wheel, I felt as rested as I was when we started. Customer deliveries are slated to start in October 2023.

2023 Mercedes-Benz AMG EQS The leader of the (battery) pack.

BY TIM LAPPEN

56

HAUTE LIVING NAPLES

LIKE SEVERAL OTHER AUTOMAKERS, MERCEDES-BENZ HAS

experimented with electric cars, typically by changing the power plants in some of their gasoline-driven cars, and that’s worked out fine (I am looking at you, B-Class Electric). While these were good cars, they didn’t wholly embrace the electrification thing: there were no differentiating looks or special technology to take advantage of the paradigm shift coming with the end of the internal combustion engine (ICE). Things are different now with the arrival of the EQ sub-brand to denote which vehicles are driven only by electrons. (Note that there already are reports that the “EQ” prefix will disappear as soon as their electrified vehicles outsell gas- and diesel-powered ones.) Seemingly all of a sudden, we have eight EQ sedans and five EQ SUVs:

EQE 350+ Sedan: MSRP $74,900; 305-mile range; 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds EQE 350 4Matic Sedan: MSRP $77,900; 260-mile range; 0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds EQE 500 4Matic Sedan: MSRP $85,900; 260-mile range; 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds AMG EQE Sedan: MSRP $106,900; 225-mile range; 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds EQS 450+ Sedan: MSRP $104,400; 350-mile range; 0-60 mph in 5.9 seconds EQS 450 4Matic Sedan: MSRP $107,400; 340-mile range; 0-60 mph in 5.3 seconds EQS 580 4Matic Sedan: MSRP $125,950; 340-mile range; 0-60 mph in 4.1 seconds AMG EQS Sedan: MSRP $147,500; 277-mile range; 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds EQB 300 4Matic SUV: MSRP $54,500; 243-mile range; 0-60 mph in 7.0 seconds EQB 350 4Matic SUV: MSRP $58,050; 227-mile range; 0-60 mph in 6.0 seconds EQS 450+ SUV: MSRP $104,400; 305-mile range; 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds EQS 450 4Matic SUV: MSRP $107,400; 285-mile range; 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds EQS 580 4Matic SUV: MSRP $125,950; 285-mile range; 0-60 mph in 4.5 seconds

Also note that, reportedly, there are plans for an EQ G-Class to arrive some time next year.

As you can see, the folks at Mercedes-Benz have thoughtfully used the same nomenclature for their e-cars so that “E” and “S” are being carried over to help denote the relative sizes and luxury of their various EQ-mobiles. They’ve also kept a distinctively MercedesBenz look for the sedans. Of course, the grilles are different since the electric motors don’t need cooling like their ICE brethren. The EQ’s grille area is a stylish panel that looks both modern and traditional and incorporates distinctive lighting. Luckily for me, this article is about the AMG version of the S-EQS, which was “mine” for a week! I am not sure whether an electric car can be called the “bad boy model,” but if it could, this would be Mercedes-Benz’s candidate. First of all, I need to mention that this car has 649 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque (amped up, so to speak, with the “Race Start” option, to 751 horsepower and 752 pound-feet). Let those stats sink in. This clearly is not your grandparents’ Leaf or Prius, but you knew that already after you saw the acceleration metric of 3.4 seconds, which portends stoplight grand prix victories over most cars, even when many are in the “sports car” category. True, the top speed of this AMG is electronically limited to 155 mph, but that velocity is still fast enough to get you arrested on virtually any road in the U.S. Other than bragging rights, though, what does a top speed north of 200 mph get you, anyway? What I like about the AMG EQS is its unapologetic acceptance that it is a high-tech vehicle. Clearly, it’s apparent when you open the driver’s door and see a dashboard glass (Mercedes-Benz calls it a “Hyperscreen”) that seamlessly overlays three separate displays behind one 56-inch clear glass cover, so the effect is terrific. The three display zones are the driver’s display (which, as you would expect, contains the information typically shown to a driver, like speed, range, etc.); the center display (which is the car’s infotainment, including the audio choices, navigation, and the like); and the passenger-focused display, which allows the frontseat occupant to choose from an array of options. (This display has a static look if there’s no front passenger.) As is typical of many high-end cars these days, the suspension has a number of adjustable settings, and since the car rides on air bellows at each wheel, it has a handful of adjustments, from cushy to performance. The air bellows system also helps smooth out bumps and potholes automatically thanks to sensors that continually read the road. They also lower the car automatically at speeds above about 75 mph to reduce aerodynamic drag, allowing the car to drive farther on less electricity than would otherwise be the case. The EQS models all have rear-wheel steering, which is very useful when parking and with lane changes as it effectively makes the car drive and handle as if it’s shorter than it actually is. (Mercedes-Benz touts it as allowing an S-Class car to be as manageable as a compact car, which is especially noticeable when making a U-turn.) My time with the AMG EQS was shorter than I wanted, which I take as a good thing since wanting to keep a car longer is a good metric for its desirability. The look, fit, and finish of the AMG EQS are superb, and the performance, especially for an S-Class sedan, is remarkable. I predict that this will be a big seller, as the car provides Mercedes-Benz’s wellknown quality in a brand-new package, one which will allow former ICE S-Class owners to feel right at home and allow new adopters to truly enjoy both the luxury and the performance.

From necklaces to bracelets, cocktail rings, and earrings, a play of sensuality and geometry unfolds throughout each chapter. The Roma Rosa chapter evokes faded marbles and frescoes with delicate pink sapphires, while Gioiello Giallo showcases joyful Fendi yellow and sunset shades in diamonds and sapphires. THE RITZ-CARLTON, NAPLES UNVEILS EVOLUTION OF AN ICON The Iconic Naples Luxury Resort Reopens To Debut A Stunning Transformation. BY ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK

The latest chapter of The Ritz-Carlton, Naples’ has now reopened and welcomed its Ladies and Gentlemen, loyal guests, and the Naples community home once again. The legendary beachfront resort has unveiled a new Vanderbilt Tower, which showcases a new Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge and more than seventy club-level guest rooms, a new resort lobby and three new dining experiences. The resort also presents new pools, bungalows, cabanas and redesigned 474 guest rooms and suites. “It is an honor to bring this incredible transformation to life at our iconic resort. The stunning redesign coupled with new experiences invites guests to celebrate their memories and create new traditions,” said Ritz Carlton General Manager Mark Ferland. Drawing inspiration from the historic glamor of travel and coastal elegance, Architect Cooper Carry and Parker Torres Design collaborated to create interiors that honor the resort’s heritage and traditions. Paying homage to the classic elements of the Gulf Coast, new accents create a timeless luxury experience for guests at The Ritz-Carlton, Naples.

One of the most notable changes to the footprint of the resort is the new Vanderbilt Tower! Reflecting the needs of today’s luxury traveler, the signature tower has been designed exclusively for Club Level guests, complete with a dedicated check-in, more spacious and highly appointed guestrooms, and an elevated Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge experience. At a sprawling 4,000 square feet, this new Ritz-Carlton Club Lounge is a pioneer within the brand, with private spaces for dining and entertainment. Floor-to-ceiling windows pour natural light into the sun-drenched space, which is filled with comfortable seating for a morning breakfast or sunset drink. Elements of the sea are seamlessly incorporated into the design of the Club Lounge, from the flow of the tides represented in the carpeting to vintage postcards depicting Naples over the decades donning the walls. A dedicated full-service bar provides an exclusive space for aperitifs and nightcaps, while a dedicated play area entertains and engages the resort’s youngest guests. Now home to eight unique dining destinations, The Ritz-Carlton, Naples offers a dynamic culinary journey with new concepts bringing modern flair and flavors to the resort. From refined bites at the Lobby Bar to vegetable-forward shared dishes at Sofra, Executive Chef Satish Yerramilli has crafted menus that allow a unique experience to each individual space. The stunning new Lobby Bar is graced with a Master Sommelier-designed menu of champagnes and elevated pairings. Here is where you celebrate the heritage of the space as a noted gathering point in the Naples community for decades. Anchored by a Signature Champagne Tasting Menu, the bar features elevated light bites, including oysters, caviar, crispy tuna, and wagyu truffle sliders with gold leaf. YUM! Sofra is a vegetable-forward restaurant inspired by the shareable, flavorful plates of the Eastern Mediterranean. Located in the Vanderbilt Tower just steps away from the pool, this open-air concept is inspired by the fishing industry with design nods such as lighting pendants resembling nets and dishes highlighting local seafood with a Mediterranean flair. Guests are pulled into the space by a dramatic structural piece above the bar that anchors the restaurant resembling the magnetic pull that brings loggerhead turtles to the area each year. Moka has also debuted, offering a wide variety of coffees made from hand-picked beans selected in partnership with a third-generation roasting family. A fourth new restaurant concept, set to be announced later this year, will bring a unique culinary experience to further complement the resort’s beloved restaurants, including Dusk, Gumbo Limbo and The Grill. The Ritz-Carlton, Naples, has found new ways to elevate poolside experiences. Ten fully enclosed, air-conditioned bungalows with cascading doors provide the ultimate in poolside comfort and luxury, each with its own private bath, television, and entertainment system, and service bar for refreshments. Additionally, ten cabanas are in the works for the pool area, each with plush seating, ceiling fans, and televisions, serving as a luxurious outdoor oasis. The Ritz-Carlton, Naples Spa, a 51,000-square-foot luxury spa, provides a sense of place with light coastal hues reflective of the white sand beaches on the Gulf of Mexico. The serene and welcoming palette complements the renowned treatments and therapies that utilize local herbs and botanicals for an immersive and invigorating experience. These new enhancements further The Ritz-Carlton, Naples’ commitment to its guests and the future of the destination.

The resort’s 77 deluxe guest rooms and eight suites, adorned in honey and gold hues, exuded luxury. Rooms with wood-burning fireplaces and cozy window seats merged comfort and elegance. Surrounded by rolling hills and lush vineyards, this haven beckons travelers seeking respite. My journey to The Allison was an immersion into its essence, leaving me both captivated and rejuvenated.

Culinary excellence lies at the heart of The Allison’s charm. JORY Restaurant embodies the farm-to-table ethos, crafting dishes from nearby orchards and farms. Executive Chef Jack Strong’s creative touch transforms local produce into delectable masterpieces. From smoked duck breast to cedar-plank wild salmon, each dish celebrates the region’s vibrant flavors. The Chef to Soil Dinner Series highlighted the relationship between soil, garden, and cuisine, creating a profound connection to the land. Elaine Heide, The Allison’s wine director, epitomizes the resort’s values. Her support for aspiring professionals and inclusivity in the wine industry reflects the resort’s commitment to community and growth. Throughout my stay, The Allison’s allure remained strong. Its extensive Willamette Valley wine list and vino-inspired spa treatments showcased its dedication to regional culture. A RELIC OF THE PAST, ROUGE NAPLES New dining concept by Naples’ chef Vincenzo Betuila on 5th Avenue South. BY ANNA CATHERINE BLOCK

Accessible only through the back door, Chef Vincenzo Betulia recalls a Prohibitionera, speakeasy, new dining concept hitting the heart of downtown Naples. The new concept is the 18-seat Rouge, a secluded space tucked in the back corner of The French restaurant. “The space has been used for overflow dining and semi-private events but was otherwise full of possibilities,” commented Chef Vincenzo. “My creative wheels started turning. What can I do with space in the back of a restaurant with its own door,” he asked himself. “The idea for a speakeasy was conceived.” Inspired by the speakeasy vibes of the 1920s and today, Chef Vincenzo has debuted Rouge. “We opened quietly at the end of July. Speakeasies don’t promote; they exist,” whispers Chef Vincenzo.

PHOTOS COURTESY OF ROUGE NAPLES

The Rouge menu consists of a lavish, contemporary, haute cuisine dining experience. It features a wide array of time-honored starters, soups, salads, sides and entrees. The heart of the menu consists of five entrees of Wagyu and prime cuts, including filet mignon, ribeye, New York strip #4, New York strip #7 and a veal rib chop. The steak entrées are expanded with additions such as Maine lobster tail, roasted bone marrow canoe, and seared foie gras.

The menu’s abundant offerings also feature classics, including The French’s acclaimed steak tartare, shrimp cocktail, and an extravagant seafood tower of oysters, shrimp, crab legs, tuna tartare, salmon crudo, and lobster. In the soup and salad category, diners can choose from a lobster bisque, baked onion soup, Caesar salad, and wedge salad. “While beef is the paramount focus,” Chef Vincenzo said, “there are also composed entrees like Mediterranean branzino, Poulet a la Basquaise (roasted chicken Basque style), and beef short rib bourguignon. The chef knows best! Inside the intimate space, dim lighting and walls draped in red velvet achieve the effect of being veiled in darkness. Linen-skirted tables, crystal glassware, table florals, red leather banquettes, and rich wood trim give Rouge an elegant and sensuous personality. The outside walls and doors are swathed in ivy. The only visible signal that one has arrived are small red neon letters spelling Rouge, nestled in the outside greenery where you are quietly greeted at the door and brought to your table. The celebration of spirits is natural for the Prohibition-themed Rouge. The elevated wine program was developed by Campagna Hospitality Group’s beverage director, Marcello Palazzi, and sommelier Alain Rabault. Wines by the glass are poured with Coravin technology, which extracts the wine without pulling the cork and altering the flavor profile. The Coravin system allows Rouge diners to enjoy rare wines that are not normally offered by the glass and to pair different wines with meal courses. Initially, six wines are featured – two Italian, two French and two Californian – including Damilano Barolo 2015, Chateau Latour 2014 and Opus One 2018. “The wine selection focuses on full-bodied wines that have more complex flavors and a richer mouthfeel. Examples include red blends from Napa Valley, Italy and Bordeaux,” said Palazzi, who noted that the wines will be rotated regularly by vintage, production and style. Classic cocktails served in cut crystal, gold-rimmed rocks glasses include gin gimlet, vesper, negroni, Manhattan, old fashioned and sidecar. Although passwords are unnecessary, Rouge
