he name “Vanessa” means “butterfly” in Greek and in Latin, “of Venus.” Vanessa Hudgens is living up to both definitions as she bids farewell to her second decade and emerges from a cocoon of uncertainty to embrace a new era of career clarity and self-love. When we first chat, her 30th birthday is still a month away. Most women—especially in fickle, flighty Hollywood—would be stressing (and fearfully Botox-ing). But not Hudgens. Her 20s were both the best of times and the worst of times, and she’s truly ready to put them behind her. “At 25, I felt like I had life figured out. Like, ‘I’ve got this, I’m great at life; I understand how to do it.’ And then, at 27, I woke up on my birthday and felt like I had no idea who I was, what I stood for, what I was doing with my life. I felt kind of lost,” she admits. A further epiphany: Adulting is legit hard business. “I realized, ‘I am not a child anymore. I am not a teen. I am fully an adult, and there are so many responsibilities that come with that.’ I felt extremely overwhelmed,” she adds. And then, in 2016, she lost her father to cancer… just a day before one of the biggest and most stressful moments of her career, performing as Pink Ladies leader Rizzo in Fox’s Grease Live. “My 20s were such a roller coaster,” she sighs. “I had so many high moments, but I lost my dad. My [boyfriend of seven years, actor Austin Butler] also lost his mom. We dealt with a lot of death.” But instead of plummeting into a dark hole of despair, Hudgens embraced the power of being powerless and walked away feeling stronger and more resilient. “I felt like [the death of my father] really pushed me to expand and grow as a person, whether I liked it or not,” she says, noting that as time passes, so has her perspective. “I [now] feel like those moments are really great to have because they force you to reassess your life, what you believe in, what you stand for, who you want to be.” In a word, she’s been “found.” She has no doubts as to the woman she hopes to be. “The last year of my 20s was very informative as to the woman I am becoming,” she notes. “I feel very empowered and very scared because I know there are big things ahead of me. [On the flip side], I feel like I’m grounded, I’ve gotten rid of my baggage, so to speak,

and have made way for myself to go into my 30s just a bit more streamlined, leading with love and light.” Make that love, light and J. Lo. Superstar Jennifer Lopez has been an instrumental force in Hudgens’ professional road to rediscovery, taking on the role of mama bear and pseudo occupational advisor. Since the two hit it off while filming the romantic comedy Second Act this year, the multitalented superstar took Hudgens under her wing to dispense some motherly and mentor-ly advice. “We’d be between sets, and we’d just talk. I’d tell her about my career and where I think I’m lacking, and she’d tell me what she thinks the right steps are to get to where I want to be,” Hudgens confides. Specifically, “She told me, ‘If you aren’t happy in a certain aspect of your career, look at who is doing what you want to be doing, and mimic it,’” Hudgens recalls. “[Jennifer] was great at being like, ‘In order to do that, you’ve got to do this,’ and she spells it out in the most simplistic way possible. And I’d be like, ‘Oh yeah, of course, I’ll do that, and I’m going to conquer the world just like you!’” Though Second Act revolves around Lopez’s character—an underachieving 40-year-old mother who scores a second chance at the corporate career she’s always dreamed of—it also fueled Hudgens’ determination for an equally epic second try. In addition to the bonus of some wise career advice and a premiere date of December 21 for their film—one week after Hudgens’ 30th birthday—working with Lopez was legitimately a gift. “[Jennifer] is the queen,” Hudgens enthuses. “She’s the O.G. of rom-com; she starred in my favorite [films] growing up. When I came in to do camera tests with her, I immediately felt this insane connection. She’s so real and honest. It was something magical that happened then; that continued to happen as we were filming. I felt like we got to a point where we could be in a scene, and we were talking telepathically, where she’d be trying to tell me something, and I’d just go with it. I’d be like, ‘Are you trying to tell me this because I feel like you are?’ And she’d say, ‘Yes, baby.’ I’d be like, ‘Oh my God, I totally read your mind!’” she giggles. But seriously, “Not only was it a fun, exciting, iconic experience, but I also got to connect with someone that I admire in a real and deep way. [Jennifer] ‘mama’-ed me. She embraced me; whenever she sees me, she gives me the biggest, warmest hug. She always checks in on me and sees how I’m doing,” she says. What Lopez will find, time and time again, is that she’s had a serious impact on Hudgens’ professional path. “I feel like I do take my career more seriously now,” she confides. “I grew up in this industry. I grew up onstage—I’ve been doing professional theater since I was 8 years old—and have been acting for so, so long. It never came from a place of ‘This is my career, and I’m going to do this forever.’ It was ‘This is fun. I enjoy this and want to do this.’” Her early career moves were pure, unadulterated Disney (which is synonymous with fun, really)–she skyrocketed to fame in 2006 as one of the shiniest stars of the network’s High School Musical franchise. But since graduating HSM’s Gabriella Montez, Hudgens has had to work harder than most to gain street cred and lose the perceived bubblegum @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 17

She’s done so with diverse and distinctly non-Disney roles such as an exotic dancer in Zack Snyder’s pulpy Sucker Punch; a brothel worker in Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills; a party girl in Harmony Korine’s risqué Spring Breakers; and a runway pregnant teen in Ronald Krauss’ Gimme Shelter, among others. What these films have in common is that they have nothing in common with High School Musical. While her career perspective has shifted, personally, she maintains that she’s still the same girl she always was, with the same sense of fun. She may be an adult, but she’ll always have that part of her that’s still a kid, too (kind of like Britney Spears’ “I’m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman”). “I feel like the way that I live my life has remained the same,” she declares. “If anything, I’ve come out of my shell more, and I feel more comfortable with myself, my voice and my choices. Even though I am [now 30] and turning into a woman, I still always have a childlike wonder. I love that about myself, seeing the world through my eyes. There’s always a sense of playfulness that I have. I don’t think I will [ever lose it]; if I’ve come this far, and it hasn’t gone away, I think it’s going to be here forever. Life’s hard, and the world’s a crazy place, but you’ve got to be able to see magic in it somehow.” Signing on to star in Fox’s live version of Rent is, without a doubt, both a strategic and a personal choice. Hudgens, who earned rave reviews for her performance in Fox’s 2016 Grease Live, was asked by producer Marc Platt to play bisexual performance artist and activist Maureen Johnson in Fox’s January 27 live reimagining. While this isn’t her first time appearing in Rent, it is her first time playing Johnson: She played HIV-positive erotic dancer Mimi Marquez at the Hollywood Bowl back in 2010. R&B singer Tinashe will play that part on Fox. Other co-stars include Dancing with the Stars winner Jordan Fisher, R&B singer Mario, Tony nominee Brandon Victor Dixon and The X Factor competitor Brennin Hunt. Plus, The Greatest Showman show-stopper Keala Settle will join in on “Seasons of Love,” arguably the musical’s most famous tune, and one that’s performed by the entire cast. “When Marc approached me to play Maureen, I thought, ‘This is interesting, granted that I did this show almost 10 years ago, and I’m at a different place now that I was then,’ and ‘It’s exciting to learn the show through a different character’s eyes,’” Hudgens recalls. “I loved playing Mimi—it’s such a fun character—but it almost felt too easy to do Mimi again. I thought it would be a fun challenge to play Maureen, and one that I hadn’t done yet.”

If she’s being honest, Hudgens—who has been acting since she was 8 years old, appearing in local productions of Cinderella, The Wizard of Oz and The King and I in her hometown of Salinas, Calif.—has always preferred the unknown to playing it safe. “I feel like I wouldn’t have the career that I’ve had if I only wanted to do the same thing,” she says. “I’m always pushing myself and challenging myself because that’s the only way you grow, and if you’re not growing, you’re dying.” She’s certainly big on keeping things fresh. From a rom-com to a live musical to her upcoming Netflix action-noir-comic adaptation Polar with Mads Mikkelsen, no two projects are even slightly in the same wheelhouse. “That’s what I try to incorporate into my work ethic,” she maintains. “I try to push myself, to work on new things and to be working on new accents [as she did recently for Netflix’s 2018 Christmas rom-com The Princess Switch]. I allow myself to feel like I can’t be held back by any limitations, to kind of lean in to everything I’m interested in, so that when the time comes, I’ll be prepared.” In addition to film and TV work, she’s dabbled in other fields, making her Broadway debut in 2015 with the musical Gigi; released two albums—V and Identified—through Hollywood Records; and designed her first clothing line, Suistudio, a collaboration with Suitsupply, this year. Eventually, she hopes to include all of her passions in her life plan: She’s seriously considering starting her own events company (prompted by gleefully planning her annual over-the-top Halloween bash) and, at one point, toyed with the idea of becoming a makeup artist. That said, Hudgens is all about acting, as much to honor the legacy of a father who gave his all for her career—moving her entire family south to Los Angeles—specifically for her talent. “My dad sacrificed so much of his time and money in order to get me to the place I am now… He gave so much for me. I think I will continue to always honor him in everything that I do,” she admits. Her resolve to become a serious actress is as much for herself as it is her father, though. With her newfound clarity, she can make no mistake—this is what she wants, too. “I’m at a place where this isn’t just fun or a hobby, this is my career, part of my livelihood, and I need to nurture and take care of it with kindness and grace. I need to be a little more strategic and have more of a plan [for my future],” she notes. Right now, she’s focused as hell. “It’s incredible how you can manifest things for yourself,” she marvels. “Manifestation is a real thing. If you’re really, really specific and have your mind set on something and are doing the work, you get there. [Right now I’m doing a lot of] selfreflection, cleaning up in all different areas of my life and getting myself to a place where I feel very confident in all the decisions I’m making, and that they’re aligned with who I am.” Who she is—or “what,” rather—is an anomaly. She’s confident, secure and likes herself, which is a rarity for any young woman in Hollywood. She loves life, loves her life, and has no qualms about admitting it. “I’ve always been able to look in the mirror and think, ‘I feel great. Thank you, God, for making me the way I am,’” she maintains. “That’s always been something that’s rooted in my DNA. It’s carried me quite far and I’m very, very grateful for it.” She trusts her gut implicitly. listen. I feel like a lot of the times, we know the answers but we get too busy and the noise becomes too loud and we can’t hear it. Listen to what your gut and your heart is telling you because your gut and your heart have the answers.” When we express surprise that she was so enlightened and yet so little, she laughs. ”I was always a wise little kid. Starting off in this industry, you have to be a little more tapped in and tuned in than the average 8-year-old. When I was going to auditions, I’d tell myself, ‘No matter what happens, it’s okay because the next thing that comes along will be bigger and better.’ That kept me going. It carried me through, and it still carries me through to this day.” Hudgens reminds us of the butterfly she’s named for when she says, “There’s something empowering about pushing through something extremely uncomfortable and surviving it. I love getting into my beast mode. For me, that’s the moment when you’re working out and you feel like you’re going to collapse. of the rising stars in the art world within the past three years. The cutting-edge, London-based group now has a total of six galleries, and has debuted its first U.S. location in none other than sunny Los Angeles. Petra Ecclestone currently serves at the helm of Maddox Gallery Los Angeles as Creative Director, using her vast expertise and artistic touch to curate the space, transferring Maddox Gallery Group’s Jay Rutland’s passion and vision into the brandnew gallery. Here, Haute Living sits down with the entrepreneur to discuss the exciting new opening and what we can expect to see.

HL: Why did you choose Los Angeles to open your first North American gallery space? PE: Since Maddox Gallery opened in 2015, the response to the group of galleries in the U.K. and Switzerland has been overwhelmingly positive, so the natural next step was to establish our British brand in North America. I relocated to L.A. earlier this year, and its vibrant art scene is the perfect setting for our young, up-and-coming brand. Our ethos is to break down the barriers within the art world and share our passion for art with people everywhere. We have a loyal client base in Los Angeles, so it made sense to bring the brand stateside. HL: Tell us about the “Best of British” exhibition. Why did you choose to launch with this? PE: As a quintessentially British brand, it was important for us to open with an exhibition dedicated to some of the finest British artists dominating the modern and contemporary art scene today as well as give a platform to talent who we believe are rising stars. Maddox Gallery is dedicated to showcasing the most exciting artists, and we have a keen interest in helping firsttime collectors enter the market, as well as sourcing works for our longtime collectors. HL: How was it curated? PE: It was important to honor our British roots for our inaugural show. I have been an art lover since my early teens, and my passion has never dwindled. I pursued

a degree in art and was accepted at the world-renowned arts and design college Central Saint Martins. I am a longtime art collector, but as Creative Director of Maddox Gallery Los Angeles, this is my debut as a curator. My goal was to showcase distinctive new voices alongside established names. The exhibition will display works by Brit blue-chip and established artists including Damien Hirst, Banksy, Grayson Perry, David Yarrow and Marc Quinn as well as tomorrow’s trailblazers such as Harland Miller, The Connor Brothers, Dan Baldwin and Mark Evans. HL: Tell us about the space. Why did you choose it for the gallery? PE: We wanted somewhere situated in the Design District that befits our luxury brand. The unit we found, located at 8811 Beverly Blvd. in West Hollywood, couldn’t be more perfect. It is an achromatic blank canvas which boasts just over 3,000 square feet of bright, spacious and airy floor space and striking vaulted ceilings, all of which create a sophisticated home for our art. I love this part of Los Angeles, and I’m delighted we were able to find the right location for our gallery. There is always something happening on Beverly Boulevard, and I especially love discovering its pop-up art installations. HL: What was the most challenging aspect of designing the space? PE: It was important to respect the space itself from an architectural point of view yet still adding our own personal touch to the design aesthetic. My vision for the gallery space is to offer a refined and sophisticated haven for the finest modern and contemporary art in the heart of West Hollywood. I hope it will become a destination where art lovers—and those who are simply curious about learning

more—can gather to peruse some of the finest artworks available today.

HL: What are you most excited to debut with the gallery’s opening? PE: Our love and passion for art! I am delighted to showcase an array of stunning artwork by some of the hugely talented artists we represent such as fine-art photographer David Yarrow and rising stars The Connor Brothers and Dan Baldwin. HL: What do you think has been Maddox Gallery’s key factor in how it’s been able to successfully expand so rapidly in the market over the past three years? PE: The Maddox Gallery brand has built a reputation for exhibiting cutting-edge work from internationally acclaimed and emerging artists, and we are renowned for our irreverent attitude to tradition. We aim to break down the barriers and democratize art as well as nurture the careers of artists we believe in. Ultimately, we have sought to be inclusive and to share our passion with all people, everywhere. I believe this has been the key to our success thus far.

the best is good enough. This becomes clear when you look at the “Velvet,” its collection of ladies’ watches. Each is as rich as the fabric that inspired its name, combining exquisite craftsmanship, eye for detail as well as a superb movement, all in an original design. Roger Dubuis let the design take the lead with this watch. This is not something every manufacture has the luxury of doing, since complex designs also require the craftsmanship, expertise and machines to make them a reality. With its unusually shaped case, full of intricate details, the Velvet is not easy to craft, but it’s certainly worth the effort as it results in one of the most original ladies’ watches currently available. While the watches all share the same basic shape of the case, Roger Dubuis made subtle differences that give each member of the Velvet collection its own personality. The Blossom Velvet Pink features a mother-of-pearl dial in which petals are linked to each other by gold branches and highlighted by diamond-set flowers. In addition, the rose gold case is set with brilliant-cut flowers, serving as the perfect frame of this piece of horological art. The Velvet by Massaro takes a completely different approach, by putting an emphasis on the unique shape of the watch case. Crafted from white gold, it is set with brilliant-cut diamonds, which we also find on the dial. Roman numerals add a bit of classic style to this watch, while the extraordinary pleated Haute Couture strap made from leather give this Velvet loads of character. At first glance, the Secret Heart looks like the most “ordinary” member of the Velvet collection, if there is such a thing. However, it is fitted with a unique bi-retrograde jumping date complication. This raises the center of the dial slightly, adding even more depth to the design. With this watch, Roger Dubuis shows that beauty and practicality can be merged together in a single creation. Beauty is also something that goes deeper than just the outside. All watches in the Velvet collection are fitted with automatic movements that are crafted in the brand’s manufacture in Geneva. Each one wears the Geneva Seal, which is evidence of the extremely high finishing of the movements. Hublot and Richard Orlinski join forces again to launch Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski México To celebrate Mexico, luxury Swiss watch manufacturer Hublot has joined forces again with famed French sculptor, Richard Orlinski, to create a green-hued Classic Fusion Aerofusion Chronograph Orlinski México. The green coloring symbolizes hope and independence and is also a tribute to the beautiful country, as it is one of the main colors in its flag. “It’s an honor for Hublot, as we love Mexico so much, to share with friends the work of Richard Orlinski,” began Ricardo Guadalupe, Global CEO of Hublot. “[He is] an artist whose bestiary of sculptures already features the emblems marking the power of the Mexican flag—the snake and the eagle. Is this chance or fate?” The timepiece is distinctly Orlinski, with its rocky, beveled exterior and edges that reflect the light. Limited to only 30 pieces, one of the main attributes of the watch is the 12-faceted case in green ceramic. Orlinski used a three-dimensional cambering technique to achieve this aesthetic. The green, as mentioned, is one of the key colors in the Mexican flag, while other flag components are also prominently included on the timepiece. For instance, the second-hand on the dial is colored red, while the HUB1155 skeleton self-winding chronograph movement has the symbolic eagle and snake—symbolizing Earth and Heaven—as imagined by Orlinski. He also revealed a gorgeous statue, bearing the two animals, at SIAR in Mexico. “I’m delighted to have designed the new Classic Fusion Orlinski Mexico with the Hublot teams,” began the Hublot ambassador. “For me, this colorful land was a real source of inspiration and made me want to create a collection of sculptures celebrating Mexico.”

Having set the standard for with the first KISMET (now renamed Global), billionaire Jacksonville Jaguars and Fulham Football Club owner Shahid Khan’s second KISMET is no less unforgettable. Delivered by Lürssen in 2014 and designed by Espen Oeino, KISMET remains one of the world’s most iconic superyachts and is still very much ahead of its time. Available for charter and sale for the first time with Moran Yacht & Ship, the 95.2m (13.8m beam) KISMET is a custom motor yacht outfitted to accommodate 12 guests in seven cabins (including two VIP suites), has three outdoor lounges spaces, a pool and hot tub complex that is every bit as opulent as its extravagant, highprofile passengers—Jay-Z and Beyoncé among them. KISMET is the culmination of a six-year journey, one in which the expansion of Khan’s wealth and influence also coincided with a need to accommodate a growing, adrenaline-fueled constituency. Unlike the first KISMET, however, 68m wasn’t enough. According to the story, Khan’s design brief contained three words: “make it impressive.” And impressive it is. KISMET comes with its very own cinema, a full-service spa, indoor/outdoor dining spaces for 12 (bar included) and a formal interior dining room with a staircase that leads to the ballroom (as one would expect). Vision is the key, as Callahan explains: “Owner requirements certainly dictate concepts and design. The majority of owners that we work with have either chartered or owned other vessels and base their requirements on previous experience. This is the main factor that drives their concept and design … The amount of detail and thought that went into building [KISMET] is honestly incredible.” Spread out over five decks, the Reymond Langton-designed “Champagne & Caviar” interior concept features a doubleheight main salon spanning the main and upper deck aft via a sweeping staircase perfect for nightcaps, morning joe or corporate entertaining. Cruising at 14 knots and a maximum speed of 17 knots, KISMET can effortlessly reach 6,000 nautical miles from 220,000 fuel tanks. KISMET’s availability comes at a time when yacht builders and brokers are riding the wave of increased sales. But in an industry that’s seen its share of challenges, Callahan is quick to point out that Moran Yacht & Ship’s approach to luxury shipping―making expertly crafted luxury experiences integral to its state-of-the-art attention to detail―is why the brand has loomed large in the minds of yachting enthusiasts for nearly three decades. “While there have been some market gyrations recently, we continue to be optimistic on all fronts [sales, charter, new construction],” he says. “As a testament to this, we have recently signed a 116m new build project called Project TESTAROSSA.”

Furthermore, the trend toward eco-friendly technology onboard superyachts has not been lost. As the UConn School of Business grad proudly notes regarding the Ken Freivokhdesigned 106m Oceanco BLACK PEARL, “The concept was to create one of the world’s most technologically advanced superyachts offering true zero-emissions cruising— virtually unheard of, especially for a yacht of her size. I think we will continue to see more advancement on this front, since the environment and seeking its natural beauty is a cornerstone of yachting.” Moran Yacht & Ship currently has eight projects in progress ranging from 64m to 142m. In 2018 alone, the firm signed 109m, 116m and 118m projects. Due for delivery next year is the 95m Lürssen Project FIJI. FIJI will be available for charter this summer in the Mediterranean and, according to Callahan, “will definitely be one of the highest-profile charter yachts afloat.” With brand DNA like this, projects of such remarkable passion are no wonder why KISMET remains a true masterpiece. @hauteliving HAUTE LIVING 71

Also, dedication to bettering the industry and to improving the lives of our customers accounts for the HondaJet’s success. HL: Are we seeing a transition from luxury large cabin jets to lighter luxury aircraft? MF: There has been an increase in interest in more efficient business jet travel options. For example, the majority of business jet usage is less than 1,000 nautical miles. If you are traveling with a few passengers, it’s more practical and efficient to use a light jet rather than a large cabin jet. The HondaJet is as high performance and comfortable as a large cabin jet, but is also much more efficient and appealing to not only individual owners but also fleet and charter operators. HL: How has HondaJet Elite’s success translated in the global market? MF: Due to the innovation and technology implemented on the HondaJet, interest in the aircraft in the Middle East, which is not

generally a light jet market, is rapidly increasing. It is a more efficient option and is perfect for city pairs within GCC [Gulf Cooperation Council], has a sporty look and is attractive to the region. In Asia, the Honda brand is very strong, which has created a lot of brand recognition across the region. Commitment to innovation and technology are all contributing factors to Asia’s interest for both individual and fleet sales. The Middle East and Asia are both new areas of growth for the HondaJet. While sales in the U.S. remain strong, interest in these regions provides us with the opportunity to increase awareness of the benefits of light jets and to expand sales and service of the HondaJet. HL: What would be the key differences between HondaJet Elite buyers and large or mid-sized jet buyers? MF: Buyers in the light-jet market are often owner-operators who are interested in personal and business use; those buying light jets are usually looking for a more efficient way of regional travel, including access to smaller airports. And purchasers of light jets may be looking to lessen their impact on the environment while also enjoying the benefits of private air travel. HL: Are there any technological innovations that you would like to bring to the market? MF: We are always looking for ways to improve personal mobility through technological innovation. Our goal is to continue to create new value in the industry, and we are constantly working on new technologies such as advanced aerodynamics, new structural material, automation and advanced controls. The panel focused on the current state of the market, with the fear of an upcoming dip in the market due to the oversaturation of product. While each panelist agreed that it is hard to generalize each market with a yes or no answer to that, most agreed it is how you handle and pitch the ups and downs of the market to your client. “It is not a buyer’s market or a seller’s market. It’s an opportunity market,” Olivia Hsu Decker said. All power brokers agreed the importance of an honest and transparent communication with clients, no matter the state of the market. “When you are discussing the market with your client, you need to turn all negatives into positives,” Richard Steinberg said. “Any agent who will tell you the market is robust and wonderful at all times, I find hard to believe.” 86 HAUTE LIVING hauteresidence.com

Highly renowned as Miami’s most powerful brokers, each panelist focused in on their respective markets as they discussed the luxury-buyer client relocating to South Florida. Taking place in the Ferrari of Miami showroom, the intimate affair brought  out Miami’s finest to check out the sporty  and chic new collection of strollers and baby  carriers, as well as to test-drive the latest and sexiest Ferraris on offer.   Social influencer Adamari Lopez, who  frequently showcases her young daughter on her Instagram account @adamarilopez,  had fun with the CYBEX for Scuderia Ferrari products, testing out the strollers and the baby carrier in both the black and the offwhite color versions. Entrepreneur and television superstar Angela Simmons—also a young mother with a 2-year-old baby boy—took a  test drive of the products as well and posed in front of various Ferrari models on the showroom floor.   Ian Llobregat of @thebillionairesclub also  made an appearance to the event, as did Navin Chatani—hospitality entrepreneur—and real estate mogul Ugo Colombo and his wife, Sara.

The event paid special tribute to Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade for his immense impact on the city of Miami over the years. Hublot partnered in the high-profile affair. Members of the list arrived to a lust-worthy lineup of exotic supercars on display outside from Prestige Imports/Lamborghini Miami. Inside, guests were whisked into the stunning new restaurant meticulously designed by Ken Fulk for Groot Hospitality. Guests enjoyed signature dishes prepared by Executive Chef Jean Imbert, as well as specialty cocktails from Absolut Elyx. Haute Living and artist Jordi Mollà presented Wade with a custom painting to commemorate the evening.

Now, A.O.C. is back, better than ever, and debuting a new look and feel to its loyal customers, as well as a fresh, fall-inspired menu. During the closure, owners Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne used the unfortunate opportunity to bring about something positive by taking advantage of the unplanned closure to refresh the restaurant. Exciting additions include an abundance of greenery with new trees, new flooring and refinished tables and bars—revitalizing the cozy atmosphere to maintain the restaurant’s identity but welcome some new-andimproved modern touches. The James Beard Award-winning restaurant has developed a prestigious reputation among Los Angelinos’ most critical palettes, most notably for the eatery’s constantly evolving, seasonally inspired menu and extensive wine list.
