A group of seasoned researchers, skin specialists and myself believed that it was time to revolutionize skincare. After years of research and testing we created the Haute Custom Beauty Method which is based on the fact that every person’s skin has different needs. We segmented skin’s needs by dissecting all different contributing attributes, creating highly targeted skincare formulas using only the most undiluted actives and natural extracts sourced from around the world combined with the latest technology. It was the perfect marriage between dermatology and technology. At the heart of Haute Custom Beauty there is a passion to innovate in skincare and develop superior products to pamper our clients worldwide.

aute Custom Beauty is a skincare brand born from an American research institute established 36 years ago headquartered in Austin and a Barcelona Spa established over 50 years ago. It was founded to revolutionize skincare with a core focus on new generation formulas that use only the best actives, biotechnology and natural extracts from around the world. Haute Custom Beauty spent three years researching skin and was able to segment it into 800+ different skin profiles. This allowed us to create effective dermatological formulas that yield outxstanding noticeable results and at the same time don't gamble with our customer’s health by eliminating studied controversial chemicals, preservatives and allergens that are still widely used today by most of the skincare industry. Our research and headquarters are in Austin, and our Atelier, Beauty Institute, and manufacturing is done in Barcelona. 4

W
hy is Haute Custom Beauty’s research and skin segmentation relevant? Over 100 years ago a visionary in our industry, Helena Rubinstein, came up with the concept of skin types and defined them as dry, normal, combination and sensitive. This was transcendental at the time, however more than a century later not many skincare lines have advanced much more. We dove into this quest without intending to come up with a specific number of skin profiles, we wanted to first uncover all the different attributes that determine skin condition, appearance and overall health and through this we were able to segment skin into more than 800 different HCB DermaProfiles™ and developed an algorithm so it could become a diagnostic tool.

W
hy do you not diagnose skin using a skin analyzer device? Skin analyzers are a wonderful tool for imaging, which is best used and understood by trained dermatologists to diagnose potential skin cancer and other medical conditions. While it’s true that many skin analyzers can take images that show sun damage even at a subcutaneous level, this is typically done as a scare tactic or a marketing tool by skincare companies and not to truly understand every person's skin or to develop a holistic skincare regimen just for them. Furthermore, some skin analyzers actually give results and ratings based on generalized studies, so they essentially grade the person’s skin based on population averages. It might for example rate someone as having 81% more black pores than people their age and gender. Perhaps that person doesn't have a concern with black pores, but this tool will certainly give them an insecurity they didn’t ask for. Using a skin analyzer to test for skin moisture level is very subjective because if a person wasn’t using anything prior to the test they could increase their skin moisture by simply slathering on any moisturizer, or any liquid for that matter. Skin moisture can even increase by drinking more water or affected by wine someone had with dinner or the amount of coffee they had that morning, since caffeine is a diuretic. Therefore it does not truly give you a skin moisture reading that is relevant with what a skincare consumer really wants, which is to obtain and maintain skin moisture for nurtured skin and for their skin to look healthy, luminous and radiant, not just to satisfy a rating or reading.
W
hat do you think about DNA testing for skin treatment? I’m a big advocate of DNA testing, in fact I have undergone thorough DNA testing myself to understand different facets of my health and wellbeing. However while DNA testing might shed some light into your skin tendencies, based on your background, it does not dictate your skin condition today or how it might be tomorrow. Skin’s appearance and condition is affected by hormones, diet, stress, pollution, season, age, lifestyle and many other attributes. My skin’s needs are different during the Winter than they are in late Spring, they are certainly different than they were ten years ago, and will likely change as years go by. However my DNA does not change at all. Ever. Therefore I don't believe that DNA testing is an accurate or sustainable way to diagnose skin for treatment.
H
ow can Haute Custom Beauty’s HCB DermaSkin Analyzing Survey™ determine a skin profile or DermaProfile™? Years of research and evaluating skin from many different angles allowed us to develop a vault of knowledge to segment skin into more than 800 different HCB DermaProfiles™. I come from the American research institute side of Haute Custom Beauty, and our institute has been developing algorithms for many years. Developing an algorithm is complicated, but what our HCB DermaSkin Analyzing Survey™ does in simple terms is to establish a "brain" that holds all the information from our vault in 9
a format that is easy to understand. This allows us to guide each client to provide the information we need in a matter of minutes to analyze the results in seconds. This takes a combination of research, analysis and the right technology. The last, but crucial step, is that it is also able to decipher and prescribe a very thorough and detailed skincare plan. While there are other skincare lines that have skin questionnaires, those tend to be very simplified surveys that lead to very generalized recommendations. Skincare questionnaires are nothing new, however a true skin profiling algorithm based on a vault of knowledge, leading to 800 different HCB DermaProfiles™ with very detailed recommendations is certainly an innovation we are proud of, and it took years of research, testing and development.

hat is important about having a proper diagnostic tool? Simply put, having an accurate diagnostic that takes into consideration many variables allowed Haute Custom Beauty to create a wide range of extremely specialized skincare products. The breadth of skincare products to truly cater to all 800+ HCB DermaProfiles™ allows for a very precise and targeted skin diet, one that ultimately gives each person what they need. Fine-tuned targeted skincare yields superior results. It works because we see the results every day and receive comments from very happy customers from all over the world, most of the comments have to do with this treatment yielding exceptional and noticeable results.

A regenerative massage using our signature semi-precious stone and 24 karat gold covered massager brings therapeutic lifting results leaving a visibly younger complexion. Skin is infused with different Elixirs, an opulent Pearl Mask and a luxurious Pearl Veil featuring a tailored mix of potent actives and extracts to restore suppleness and luminosity. THE CANDLE
T
he candle uses our signature scent that was custom created for the Spa & Beauty Institute in Barcelona using fresh herbs and dry leaves from the Catalonia forests. This candle is hand poured in Barcelona and it uses a 12% perfume concentration, which is the same concentration used in the most exclusive and expensive candles in the world (most typical scented candles only use 3%.) A local illustrator was commissioned to portray the magic of all of Barcelona's icons. The candle comes in a glass which is separate from the metal art case it slides into which has the Barcelona icons carved out, therefore when the candle is lit it looks as if there was a light turned on inside all of the little buildings. The metal sleeve can be used for several daily use and decorative applications once the candle burns all the way down. It includes a small poster with the illustration and it explains the history of each one of the icons portrayed on the candle. LBSC-F

WHY AIRLESS?
M
any gases in our atmosphere, particularly oxygen can accelerate product deterioration through oxidation. The air we breathe includes nitrogen, argon, carbon dioxide, neon, helium, methane, krypton, hydrogen, nitrous oxide, carbon monoxide, xenon, ozone, nitrogen dioxide, iodine and traces of ammonia. All of these substances, even in small amounts can affect a product. Packaging with airless technology is essential to stabilize the potent actives and natural ingredients and maintain their full potency. Vitamins, antioxidants, plant extracts and other elements found in skincare start oxidizing, breaking down and deteriorating once a regular jar is opened and lets the air in, decreasing their efficacy. In fact, many vitamins such as Vitamin C or E are not effective in skincare products unless they are packaged in airless containers.
Airless technology also keeps products clean and uncontaminated because spatulas, applicators or fingers introduce bacteria in a jar deteriorating the product and accelerating it loss in potency. Airless dispensers function through an interior plunger much like in a medical syringe. The plunger creates an airtight seal in the interior of the barrel and it pushes out the product completely, keeping it with no exposure to air and also allowing all the product to be used in its entirety. At HCB we package all of our moisturizers and eye treatments with airless technology to ensure that all of the actives and natural ingredients maintain their full potency while minimizing the use of unnecessary preservatives.
WHY AMPOULLES?

This uni-dose method is the only way in which the Haute Custom Beauty method can be shared with our retail clients by allowing our skin specialists to fully tailor treatments having access to our entire ELIXIR Collection. At HCB we use the highest quality of glass ampoules. Our ELIXIR’s opening mechanism relies on an top-of-the-line system with a colored yellow band around the neck where the ampoule can be easily and safely snapped open. We provide a plastic ampule and encourage its use for quick, easy and safe handling; this ensures that the ampoules snap open cleanly.
n the world of professional skincare, the most exclusive facial treatments have relied on glass ampoules for decades. Ampoules allow the effective delivery of concentrated nutrients while using a minimum concentration of preservatives. Our glass ampoules are safely used around the world by skincare professionals, dermatologists and Spas. The filling and germ-free closing of glass ampoules takes place in optimum, perfectly hygienic conditions. Furthermore, glass is sustainable and easy to recycle. At Haute Custom Beauty we package all our elixirs in ampoules 22
GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH & THE ENVIRONMENT PARABEN FREE Paraben studies are controversial, some conclude there is a link to cancer and some say they are safe in small quantities. Other studies say parabens are stored in the body, and over time have a cumulative negative effect and pose a health risk. Given the mixed opinions in research studies, at Haute Custom Beauty we opted for not gambling with the health of our customers. PHTHALATES FREE Phthalates are a group of industrial chemicals used as solvents and plasticizers, they are found in many things such as toys, food packaging, nail polish, synthetic perfume, shampoo and some skincare products. Phthalates have been found to disrupt the endocrine system and even been linked to liver cancer. US Congress banned six phthalates from children’s toys and cosmetics in July 2008. SULFATES FREE Sulfates are often used in shampoos and cleansers as foaming agents. Tests show that Sodium Laurel Sulfate (SLS) can penetrate into the eyes and systematic tissues (brain, heart, liver, etc.) and have long-term retention. SLS forms nitrates and when mixed with any nitrogen based ingredients it can form carcinogenic nitrates that can enter the blood stream. Sulfates can cause eye irritation, skin rashes and allergic reactions. METHYLISOTHIAZOLINONE FREE This type of preservative is often used in rinse-off products such as shampoos or cleansers as well as on leave-on products. It's proven to be sensitizing and a problematic allergen. The American Contact Dermatitis Society named methylisothiazolinone its 2013 Allergen of the Year. 23
Methylisothiazolinone should also be avoided with nonsensitive skin as people can develop allergies or irritation. While some tests consider this still safe for rinse-off products but not for leave-on products we do not think it is safe/ CRUELTY FREE Some companies choose to develop or use new, untested ingredients in their cosmetic products conducting new animal tests to evaluate the safety of these ingredients. Skin and eye irritation tests are conducted by rubbing chemicals into the shaved skin or eyes of animals. Some tests also involve forcefeeding animals with these ingredients. We are animal lovers and strong supporters of NO ANIMAL TESTING and NO ANIMAL CRUELTY. PEGs FREE PEGs are petroleum-based compounds often used as emollients and emulsifiers. Some studies say these polymer derivatives are linked to cancer, reproduction and fertility, birth or developmental defects and that they could be toxic to organs. Other sources say PEGs can reduce skin’s moisture levels and accelerate aging. Depending on manufacturing process, PEGs may be contaminated with measurable amounts of ethylene oxide (the International Agency for Research on Cancer classifies this as a known human carcinogen) and 1,4-dioxane (a possible human carcinogen.)

Exfoliating Micro Dots on One Side Help The Environment. The textile technology in The Micellar Purifying Cloths BEAD allows for exfoliation without the use of microbeads. Microbeads have been used in most scrub products for years, but unfortunately these microbeads aren’t filtered in treatment plants and end up in the ocean, being imposible to remove and contaminating ocean and sea creatures who absorb or eat them.
