Hatfield residents elect five Commissioners to four-year terms of office.

Each Commissioner represents a geographical “Ward” of the township. The Commissioners are part-time volunteers who make decisions on behalf of the 18,000+ residents of Hatfield Township. The Board of Commissioners meets twice a month to discuss and adopt policies for Hatfield’s local government services. These policy decisions include items such as land development applications, road improvements, public safety matters, capital improvement projects, and open space preservation. While each year may bring different projects and policies, the overarching goal of the Board of Commissioners is always to promote the health, safety, and welfare of the community.

A New Voice for Ward II: Commissioner Karla D'Alessio Many residents may already recognize Karla D'Alessio from her frequent attendance at township meetings. A 34-year resident of Stewart Drive, Karla says her decision to run for office was deeply personal. Living next door to township-owned land gave her a firsthand understanding of how local decisions directly impact neighborhoods across Hatfield.

Karla brings a strong professional background to the board as a Penn State graduate and retired pharmaceutical executive. Her decades of experience as a protein biochemist and project manager, overseeing complex global initiatives across 14 countries, have prepared her well for the detailed work of local government. She is now applying that same thoughtful approach on the Planning and Zoning Committee, where she aims to ensure development remains responsible and aligned with infrastructure capacity and stormwater management.

Transparency in Infrastructure

One of the most frequent concerns Karla hears from residents involves the intersection of Orvilla and Cowpath Roads and the possibility of adding a leftturn arrow. She wants residents to know the township has requested this improvement from the state three separate times, with support from State Representative Steve Malagari. Each time, the request was denied because traffic and accident data did not meet state thresholds.

While that may not be the outcome residents hoped for, Karla believes in being clear about the process.

“Even when the answer is no, people should know their concerns were brought forward and taken seriously,” she says.

HATFIELD TOWNSHIP IN 2026: New Faces, New Leadership, and a Shared Vision As spring begins and the year gets underway, Hatfield Township is moving through 2026 with steady focus. Following the recent election and annual reorganization, the Board of Commissioners brings together new perspectives and long-standing experience, all centered on maintaining the quality of life that makes Hatfield feel like home.

A Passion for the Pool

When she is not at the township building, Karla is often in the water. A lifelong swimmer and YMCA member since 1988, she considers the Hatfield Aquatic Center (HAC) one of the township’s true gems and was proud to support its construction.

She’s partnering with the Pool Advisory Board to ensure the HAC remains a wonderful place for Hatfield residents of all ages to enjoy.

Community Focused

Karla is an active supporter and sponsor of the International Spring Festival, the largest multi-cultural event of its kind in PA, held annually at North Penn High School. She’s also a volunteer and advocate for Mitzvah Circle. When not out jogging the neighborhood with her Dalmatian rescues she likes to travel and thought she might retire out west—but realized Hatfield’s greenery, sidewalks, and sense of community were hard to replace.

2026 Priorities: Stability and Progress

A speech-language pathologist with more than 25 years of experience in public schools, Jen sets meeting agendas and facilitates everyone's participation, including our residents who come to the in-person meetings. She describes her leadership style as a team approach.

"The board has a strong team behind it, including Township Manager Aaron Bibro, Police Chief William Tierney and his department, and all our staff who keep our township running smoothly and truly love working here," she says. "Their commitment is unwavering."

The board, which also includes Vice President Shahidul Partha (Ward III), Tom Zipfel (Ward IV), and Commissioner Gerald Andris (Ward V), has outlined several priorities for the year ahead: • No Tax Increase: There is no increase to local township taxes for 2026.

• Public Safety: The new police station is complete and will become fully operational in the coming months.

• Infrastructure: The township is utilizing grant funding to improve the intersection of Orvilla and Welsh Road.

Get Involved The board encourages residents to stay informed and engaged. Meetings are recorded and available on YouTube, agendas can be reviewed at hatfield.org, and updates are shared through township communication channels. We encourage our residents to attend committee meetings, which are open to the public. Dates and times for these committee meetings are on our website, too. We are looking to increase engagement in our community and appreciate the engagement that we do have already, especially with the very active and dedicated residents who are part of the township committees.

Jen lives in Hatfield with her husband and their 13-year-old son and remains active in local youth sports and the Penndale Middle School community. Looking ahead to 2026, she hopes to continue and expand township celebrations that highlight the diversity, history, and shared traditions of Hatfield residents. This includes observances such as Women’s History Month and Pride Month, along with other community events that bring neighbors together and reflect the many backgrounds and experiences that make up our township.

The Hatfield Township Board of Commissioners’ service to the community extends beyond the boardroom to include local agencies like Mitzvah Circle, Manna on Main Street, the North Penn YMCA, and others.

THE HEROES, THE LOYALISTS, AND THE MYSTERIES OF 1776 Exploring the stories that shaped our township 250 years ago As the Hatfield 250 Committee prepares for the 250th anniversary of the United States on July 4, 2026, we are uncovering the local stories that shaped our community. Two and a half centuries ago, Hatfield was a landscape of dense woodlands and scattered farms, where local families found themselves caught in the high-stakes drama of the American Revolution.

A Divided Community: The Wright Conspiracy

Not everyone in Hatfield supported independence. During the Revolution, brothers Jonathan, Abijah, and John Wright Jr.—local Quakers who remained loyal to the British Crown—were known as “Tories” and often clashed with their Patriot neighbors.

In the winter of 1778, the brothers reportedly conspired to capture Lieutenant Colonel Jacob Reed, Hatfield’s most prominent Patriot leader. According to local accounts, the group attacked Reed at his front door. Reed defended his home with a saber, but during the struggle, his sword broke, and the jagged end injured John Wright.

Standing History: The Wright Conspiracy House

Remarkably, the Wright Conspiracy House on Colonial Drive still stands today and is one of the oldest homes in Montgomery County. The house features a unique “window to the past”—a preserved section of the original log wall displayed behind glass so visitors can see the authentic stone chinking and mud daubing, mixed with goat hair, that insulated homes 250 years ago.

Local Lore: The Secret Tunnels

History often blends documented fact with intriguing local tradition. One longtime tale involves a historic home on Addison Drive that reportedly served as a field hospital for colonial troops retreating from the Battle of Germantown.

Even more exciting for younger residents are the stories of secret tunnels said to be hidden within the home. As committee member Frank DiMaria noted, these local mysteries are what “get people all excited” about discovering that history may be right in their own backyards.

Life in Hatfield in 1776

To picture Hatfield 250 years ago, imagine a quiet, self-sufficient community with only about 50 inhabited properties and just four main roads: Bethlehem Pike, Old Bethlehem Road, Cowpath Road, and 40 Foot Road.

There were no grocery stores. Families grew their own food and relied on local blacksmiths and wheelwrights for essential goods.

Property deeds were handwritten, carefully recording land boundaries in elegant script.

“You could say I’m a bit of a history enthusiast,” Frank DiMaria shared. “We thought this would be a great way to promote both the borough and the township while leading our whole area into a meaningful celebration.”

Shining a spotlight on some Hatfield Helpers who make our community stronger.

Lexi An Eagles Autism Foundation rock star Lexi Eveland has become a rising star at Hatfield Elementary by finding ways to advocate for herself and others who have autism by showing them that kindness is key and helping others goes a long way.

Over the summer Lexi held her first lemonade stand and it was a huge success—she raised over $800 for the Eagles Autism Foundation. She was so encouraged by her results that she held a hot chocolate stand in the winter! Lexi also wanted to give back to the community, so she used some of her lemonade stand money to donate food to Manna on Main Street, gather school supplies for the North Penn School District, and donated money to the families that were affected by the August 2025 fire at the Hatfield Village Apartments.

Lexi is fundraising now for the 2026 Eagles Autism Challenge and has already blown by her initial goal of $5,000. She set a new goal of $10,000 and would love to have your help to get across the goal line! You can donate to Lexi’s EAF page at the link below.

Lexi is 8 years old now, and was diagnosed with autism at the age of 3. She has faced many struggles, but with the support of family, friends, and teachers, Lexi has overcome every obstacle and is “moving those chains” each and every day for her favorite team—and for autism research.

“She loves the Eagles so much, and the staff we work with at the Eagles Autism Foundation,” says Lexi’s mom, Meghan.

“They have helped her so much with her confidence and learning that autism does not define her. She tells everyone it is her super power!”

A Christmas present like no other Hatfield is full of givers and helpers, but sometimes it’s good to be on the receiving end, too.

When Connor and Brianna Snook bought their house on Pinegrove Avenue three years ago, they knew it would soon need a new roof. Soon after, their daughter Sienna was born with multiple life-threatening defects that required numerous surgeries and almost daily appointments with care providers, and Brianna left her job to be her daughter's full-time caregiver.

The new roof was pushed way down their to-do list.

Hatfield helps feed the hungry Food insecurity is a growing concern in our area, and these local churches have stepped up to help. How can you support them?

The number of food insecure families in our area continues to rise sharply, and our local food pantries are doing their best to keep up and continue meeting the needs of an increasingly diverse client base. The food pantry at Hatfield Church of the Brethren, for example, was one of the local pantries that recently tested the use of artificial intelligence-powered translation devices to help overcome language barriers. We appreciate your support of these Hatfield Helpers:

But the Snooks didn’t need to wait, thanks to the generosity of Essential Exteriors, a local roofing and siding contractor whose crew replaced the roof at no charge just before Christmas last year. It is the second year in which the company has donated a roof, working through The Arc Alliance to identify a family with a special needs child that needed a new roof. The Arc Alliance supports individuals of all ages with developmental and other disabilities, and their families, by providing personal services, support and training.

Everyone connected with this story is a Hatfield Hero, especially Dan Kingkiner and Essential Exteriors as well as The Arc Alliance for helping to bring the spirit of the season to our community.

AMAZING WOMEN OF HATFIELD The Hatfield Township Board of Commissioners celebrates Women’s History Month and International Women’s Day by honoring these five accomplished Hatfield women.

Hatfield is home to so many amazing women—and the Board of Commissioners honored some of them at their public meeting on March 25, including (l to r): Commissioner Karla D’Alessio, Caitlin Ewer, Mel Derstine, Dana Price, Board of Commissioners President Jennifer LoStracco, Punam Amin, Danielle Bridge, Jill Mosiondz, and Kathryn Schnierer-Chapman.

Punam Amin - Ward 3 Punam Amin is someone who believes deeply in service, faith, and family—and that we should lift others as we rise. “My journey, both personally and professionally, has been shaped by resilience, community support, and a strong belief that when women are empowered, families and communities thrive,” she says.

For Amin, that translates into active involvement in community service. She volunteers for the Public Affairs and Outreach team at BAPS, a global movement of the Hindu faith that seeks to care for the world by caring for communities, families and individuals.

BAPS has more than 5,000 locations worldwide, including a growing chapter in Hatfield. Amin also has a lead role in BAPS Charities, helping to organize fundraisers for many local Montgomery County agencies through the BAPS walk-a-thon.

Caitlin Ewer, Mel Derstine, Dana Price, Commissioner Jen LoStracco Dana Price loves doing the things 17-year-old girls love to do. She cheers for the football team on Friday nights, attends school dances, and loves to sing (Hannah Montana’s “I’ll Always Remember You” is her absolute favorite.)

What makes Dana special, and sets her apart from other high school sophomores, is that she was born with Down Syndrome.

That has made her path a bit different from other kids her age, but Dana has excelled thanks to her infectious enthusiasm and the unwavering support of family and friends. We recognize Dana and her support group—we’ll call them “Team Dana”—as Hatfield Heroes from Ward 1.

In addition, Amin volunteers locally with Liz’s Birthday Closet, Keystone Opportunity Center, and through annual food drives for local food pantries. She also supports healthcare advocacy efforts through Bayada Hearts for Home Care, which works to increase access to quality care for vulnerable populations. Service and community impact that empowers women, supports young people, and strengthens families are central to her purpose and vision.

Outside of her work, Amin cherishes time with her Owen family, while staying grounded in gratitude and continuously growing as a leader in the community.

“Hatfield gives me and my family a strong sense of community and belonging,” she says. “I am deeply touched but he leaders of Hatfield that I get to call part of my family.”

Part of Dana's amazing support group is Mel Derstine, a former Lansdale Catholic student and cheerleader who is now Dana’s home therapist. When North Penn gave permission for Dana to cheer at home games, Mel took Dana under her wing. She took Dana to cheer practices and helped teach her the cheers. “Mel was one of the girls that really helped her feel like part of the squad,” says Dana’s mom, Amy Bozzola.

Another key player on Team Dana is her “bestie,” Caitlin Ewer. Caitlin is a junior who met Dana in one of North Penn’s Unified Physical Education classes, which fosters inclusivity by pairing students with and without disabilities in an adapted fitness environment. The program is designed to create a welcoming, "for everyone" environment that encourages connection and breaks down barriers between students with differing abilities.

Caitlin even accompanied Dana to North Penn’s Winter Formal, and the two FaceTime each other every day. “Caitlin always makes time for Dana,” says Amy Bozzola. “Just that little bit of time means the world to her.”

Living with Down Syndrome isn’t easy. Bullying is still an issue, and it breaks Amy’s heart for Dana. But the love and encouragement Dana receives from heroes like Mel and Caitlin help her keep a positive outlook.

Danielle Bridge - Ward 4 Danielle Bridge isn’t about to apologize for wanting to help Hatfield “Bridge the Gap” between excuses and a healthy lifestyle. The owner and sole employee of Bridge the Gap Workouts started her fitness business in 2016 and hasn’t looked back.

“I married Vince, who is equally passionate about a healthy lifestyle, but I also married into the last name Bridge, which kickstarted my company name,” she says.

It will come as absolutely no surprise that her community involvements are heavily influenced by her focus on health and wellness.

Danielle runs the Boosterthon for Walton Farm Elementary School and is heavily involved in the North Penn IRONKnights Triathlon. Her BTG “MOMBINE” helps raise money for a variety of local non-profits, and BTG is also a sponsor for many local youth sports teams. Danielle is also a board member of the North Penn Valley, Wissahickon and Souderton Boys & Girls Clubs.

Are you tired yet just thinking about all that? If not, Danielle also finds time to take on speaking engagements at local churches and business groups to promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle.

Danielle’s two kids are heavily involved in sports as well, and she is a self-proclaimed “loud and proud” sports mom (“You can hear me

Commissioner Tom Zipfel, Danielle Bridge and family at all their games!” she laughs), and is also a huge fan of Philly sports teams—especially the Eagles and Phillies.

What does she love about living in Hatfield? “The sense of community everywhere you go,” she says. “Although we live in a large school district, there is a small-town feel in Hatfield that I just love.”

Jill Mosiondz - Ward 2 gram (PREP) at St. Maria Goretti on Sunday mornings. “It has always been close to my heart to raise my children in an environment where they can deepen their understanding of God and the church’s teachings,” she says. She also volunteers at many parish service events, offering more opportunities to live out her faith through hands-on service to others.

•H er two children both attended AM Kulp Elementary School, and Jill was deeply involved in projects ranging from the yearbook to fundraising to chaperoning class trips and donating classroom supplies. “I wanted to help create fun, lasting memories for my children and their classmates,” she says.

Jill Mosiondz holds a Master’s degree in industrial/organizational psychology and an MBA, and works full-time, yet still finds the time and energy to build community with virtually every facet of her life—home, church, school, and pool.

• J ill serves on the board of the Hatfield Sharks Swim Team, supporting the team her son Trevor competes for. She assists in developing communications to parents, records meeting minutes, supports operational tasks at swim meets, and participates in voting on matters that impact the team, including recruiting qualified coaches, determining the swim meet schedule, and organizing team-building events. She also coached her daughter Camryn’s softball and basketball teams.

• J ill created the Hatfield, PA Community Facebook page in 2018 to give every resident of Hatfield a place to connect, ask questions, share recommendations, and support one other. “This page was created to bring neighbors together,” she says. Jill continues to moderate the page, which has grown to nearly 10,000 members.

• I n addition to supporting her family’s involvements, Jill also has a heart for animal rescue. She helped found Home at Last Dog Rescue in 2008 and continues to foster dogs when she can, and connects loving families with dogs, whether they foster or provide a forever home.

• S he and her husband, Doug, launched a website, KeepingKidsConnected.com, in 2017 to make it easier for parents to find fun, meaningful activities for their families, “because staying connected to our community matters,” she says.

Jill and her family moved to Hatfield in 2012, shortly after her daughter Camryn was born. “We quickly fell in love with the community and are so grateful for the many friendships we’ve built here,” she says. “We especially value the North Penn School District and the opportunities it provides our kids. Hatfield is a wonderful, safe place to live and raise a family, and we feel truly blessed to call it home.”

Kathryn Schnierer-Chapman - Ward 5 blown away by what she heard.

“She said to me, ‘Let’s see what we can do in this community,’” Schnierer-Chapman says. So she reached out to community groups and local leaders, and found sponsors. Last October, they held the workshop, “Lansdale Listens: From Division to Dialogue” at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, with about 50 people attending.

“It was a productive day,” Schnierer-Chapman says. “People were energized and emotional. A lot of them are on pins and needles.

We heard them say, ‘I’m tired of not being able to talk to my family or neighbors. I want to do better.’ The workshop was fantastic for opening our eyes and taking off our blinders.”

Commissioner Jerry Andris, Kathryn Schnierer-Chapman and family Kathryn Schnierer-Chapman is a Chicago transplant who has been putting down roots here in Hatfield since 2010. She enjoyed a 25year career in science museums, most recently at the Franklin Institute, where she oversaw a wide range of programming and operations, including the museum’s IMAX and Planetarium programs.

Pandemic-related industry changes led her to reflect on a career change, and after spending a decade commuting to Philadelphia, she moved to Hatfield and got her real estate license so that she could spend more time with her kids and getting to know her neighbors.

She is now a top seller on her real estate team.

Locally, Ward 5 residents will recognize her as a poll greeter at Oak Park Elementary School, but she also serves on the advisory board for the Lansdale Branch of the North Penn YMCA, and volunteers at Lansdale’s Code Blue Shelter as well as Manna on Main Street.

One of Schnierer-Chapman’s most interesting recent involvements, however, is one you won’t find on her resumé: peace-making. A good friend of hers—a former nun who left the convent to adopt special needs children—had experienced some difficult conversations involving politics. A short time later, she attended a workshop conducted by Philadelphia-based JUST Listening—and she was

Now, Schnierer-Chapman wants to help others do better, too. “I would love to see this idea sprout and grow roots with other groups,” she says. “How can we help people not just be active listeners, but listen to understand?”

Pursuing the art of peace-making through better listening is a good fit for her personality and skill set. In college she wanted to be a fiction writer. “I like to hear people’s stories,” she says. “I remember people by their stories, their backgrounds, what they did. If I meet someone I’ve met before, I may not remember their name, but I will remember the college they went to, or the first car they owned. I love the idea of getting people together to hear their stories.”

Schnierer-Chapman once thought she would move to the city when her children were grown and out of the house, but her experience in Hatfield has caused her to have second thoughts.

“I still can’t get over how lucky I feel to have settled in Hatfield,” she says. “I raised three children here, and I love all the opportunities they’ve had. I’m close enough to enjoy all that Philadelphia has to offer, but I’m also less than 30 minutes away from some great spots to hike, paddle-board and explore my nature-loving side. Most of all, I love the connections I’ve made with my neighbors, whether it’s the regulars at the dog park or the people I talk to at the pool.

“Hatfield seems like a small town when I talk to my friends back in Chicago, but I’m always highlighting the diversity we have here, and all the ways we come together with shared values."
