FORM, FUNCTION
Luxury & Depression Lowestoft’s seafront thrives in summer, filled with tourists, activity, and energy. Yet as winter arrives, the promenade quietens, businesses slow down, and public spaces become increasingly underused. This seasonal shift can leave residents feeling disconnected, with colder, darker months often intensifying feelings associated with Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). This project responds to that challenge by reimagining luxury as a tool for wellbeing. Inspired by the social and restorative nature of Roman baths, it proposes an underground spa beneath CONCLUSIVE MODEL Lowestoft’s beach promenade. More than a place to relax, the spa becomes a winter destination; drawing people back to the seafront when it is needed most. Through warmth, water, and shared experiences, the project aims to activate the promenade year-round, support mental wellbeing, and transform an overlooked seasonal landscape into a place of connection, comfort, and escape.
