Woking FC Remembers Brian Bibby 1932 – 2025 Brian passed away in March aged 93 having been a fan and season ticket holder for many years. He was a regular on the KRE into his 80’s and, apparently, was miffed that for his last game at the end of 2024 he had to sit in the Seymours stand rather than stand on the terraces! His son Paul (Pablo in NZ on Cardsboard) recalls that they attended together from the 90’s sharing the League success, big FA Cup matches against West Brom, Everton and Coventry and Wembley Trophy wins. Woking FC was a huge part of Brian’s life, and he will be much missed; there will be a Celebration of Life for Brian in July

Tom combeer 2008 - 2025 Tom became a Cards supporter in 2021 at the age of 13. He loved the freedom of going to matches with his cousin, friend and older brother George. He loved the camaraderie of the Terraces, the Woking chant and gained a reputation at St Peter’s School for singing Woking songs. Tom was planning on going to the games over Easter with his brother but passed away in early March aged just 17. Since he passed away his brothers, friends and cousins have been attending games. Today we are joined by a party of 12 Tom’s parents, brothers, sister, cousins, uncles and friends who send the simple message ‘We miss you Tom and will always love you’

Wendy Denty 1964 - 2025 Woking FC were saddened to hear of the passing away of Wendy Denty on March 26th. Wendy, who was a fan and member of the Cards Trust Board prior to Covid, was heavily involved with local charity work and was particularly successful as the Fundraiser for Your Sanctuary. Close friend John Hooker (Cards Trust) recalls ‘When my late wife Joan passed away of MND 15 years ago her best friend (Wendy) dragged me down to Woking to help with the healing process. We both became season ticket holders and heavily involved.’ Wendy will be hugely missed by her three daughters and their families, a wide network of close friends, the local community and Woking FC.

Keith Jenkins 1957 – 2025 Keith (Taffy) Jenkins was a proud Welshman, who started following Woking FC in 1975 when in the Welsh Guards and stationed at Pirbright Barracks. He supported the club from that point, with the same passion that he had for Wales, and Swansea City, his hometown club. Taffy settled in Woking, worked for the Post Office for many years and proudly introduced his children and grandchildren to the Cards. He also got to as many away games as possible and would often be heard in the stands shouting 'Don't Panic' when the heat was on or making his infamous "Wah Wah waaah" trumpet sound, when the opposition made a mistake. Taffy was larger than life and, whatever the challenges, always had a smile on his face. Win, lose or draw he never stopped believing in Woking FC. He will be sorely missed and there is a large party of his friends and relatives present today; he would be honoured and humbled to be remembered by Woking FC fans.

colin kiely 1961 - 2024 Colin Kiely was a long time Woking fan and friend David Barton recalls attending the West Brom and Goodison games together. Colin was born in Wembley so seeing the Cards win the Trophy three times carried an additional poignancy. Colin was a regular on Moaners Corner with his friends until, more recently, relocating to the seats in the big stand. Apparently, he also supported Manchester United, but friends have forgiven him that! We are pleased to be joined by many of Colin’s friends today and a memorial plaque in his name has been ordered to be added to the fans wall in the coming weeks

Michael Wardley 1954 - 2025 Michael Wardley was a dedicated Woking fan, home and away, for over 30 years and is so very dearly missed by all his family. A group of friends, including Michael, started their Woking journey after the loss to Everton at Goodison Park. In time the friends started bringing their own children and recalled some fantastic times – particular highlights were games against Weymouth, Bashley, Dover and Coventry in the FA Cup and FA Trophy Michael’s friend Mark recalls that whenever you met him the first bit of conversation would always be about Woking, recent performances and any players that stood out (or not!). Sadly, due to long term illness, Michael’s recent attendance at games was more sporadic but he will be warmly remembered by friends and family at today’s game.

AHeaD OF THE GAME Woking vs Eastleigh Vanarama National League Saturday 26th April 2025 12:30 Kick-Off

oking’s final home fixture of the season sees them host an Eastleigh side sitting two points above the Cards, with both sides eyeing up the possibility of a top half finish. Such a feat would be an impressive achievement for Neal Ardley and his coaching staff, considering that when he was appointed Woking manager back in mid-December, only a point separated the Cards from the first of four relegation places. In fact, 35 points in 22 games is the fifth best return for any side in the division since that point of the season, with only champions elect Barnet having lost less times in the league. With Woking and Eastleigh both in the group of seven confirmed teams for next season’s National League, an open game of football is expected, but the likes of Inih Effiong, Dale Gorman and Adam Chicksen may not play after Effiong missed Monday’s win with injury, whilst Gorman and Chicksen went off. OPPOSITION WATCH It’s been another solid season at National League level for Eastleigh, who will play their twelfth straight season in the fifth tier. A run of eight games without a win put an end to any playoff hopes Kelvin Davis and his side may have had, but they got back to winning ways on Easter Monday thanks to Chris Maguire’s goal against Yeovil.

Serial National League goalscorer Paul McCallum has seen his game time limited this season, with just nine goals in the league compared to 31 last season. Top scorer for the Spitfires is the impressive Tyrese Shade, a versatile forward with twelve goals after nearly being promoted with Solihull Moors last season. Elsewhere, imposing centre half Ludwig Francilette has eight for the season along with veteran Maguire, but Eastleigh’s last away win was over two months ago at Boston. With Woking now possessing the fifth best home record in the division, it’ll be a challenge for the Spitfires to dish out a rare home defeat. AROUND THE GROUND Tickets are available here. The Fan Zone is the newest addition for supporters and is located opposite the Cardinals Bar. Moaners Corner Café is located next Moaners Corners Stand, with hot and cold drinks, plus snacks available. The Seymours Community Stand has hot food options and a last lane for beverages.

Last season, a goal from former Card Solomon Nwabuokei, who has played just four times this season due to injury problems, was enough for a vital 1-0 Eastleigh win at the Laithwaite back in April. Woking had registered three points at the Silverlake by the same scoreline thanks to Dennon Lewis in October 2023. Of the 28 meetings between the sides, Woking have won nine, Eastleigh eight, and there have been eleven draws. ARRIVING AT THE STADIUM Kingfield Road turnstiles – blue and yellow entry opens two-and-a-half hours before kick-off, unless otherwise stated. Westfield Avenue turnstiles - red and orange entry opens two-and-a-half hours before kick-off, unless otherwise stated. Away supporter turnstiles - white entry opens two hours before kick-off, unless stated otherwise. Supporters who have purchased a hospitality package will have green entry and should enter through the Guest Entrance, Kingfield Road.

THE 400 CLUB A prize draw with twelve draws per year. Around £20,000 has been given to support the Club and more than £12,000 in prizes. GOLDRUSH The prize draw that gives back 50% to the lucky winner with a draw at half-time on matchday, with a minimum stake of just £1. The prizes have recently been around £400 and the winning number is announced and displayed on the digital screen at half-time. If you're coming to the Laithwaite this afternoon then you'll notice a striking new Fan Wall on the outside wall of the Legends Bar. The wall offers personalised plaques to purchase that enable you to celebrate your favourite player, record your first match, or of course remember a loved one - it is very fitting that Andy Turner has pride of place on the top left plaque. Developed by the Supporters Liaison Group within The Cards Trust, this fundraising initiative will be used by the trust to fund improvements to the spectator experience at the ground, as well as contributing to Boost The Budget and other initiatives to support Woking FC. SLG The Supporters’ Liaison Group is designed to act as the bridge between all Woking FC fans and Woking Football Club by: Providing communication channels for ALL supporters (whether or not members of the Cardinals Supporters’ Society Ltd/Trust) to give constructive comments about issues relating to fan experience for the attention of senior staff and owners of the Football Club. Convening regular liaison meetings directly with senior staff and owners of the Football Club to facilitate dialogue and ensure ALL fans have a

he Woking FC Academy has been operating in its current format for over a decade with the aim of helping talented young footballers make progress into the club's first team set up or in their sporting careers whilst continuing with their academic studies. For the 2024/25 season, the youth and academy setup runs in three stages; a pre-academy for six to nine-year-olds, a youth academy for nine to 16-year-olds, and a full-time academy for talented young players above the age of 16, including an education plan. The Academy works with the Football Club's partner charitable and community organisation, Cardinals in the Community (CITC).

Notable academy graduates in recent history include Woking legends Craig Ross and Joe McNerney, Wrexham's Ollie Palmer, and exChelsea and now-Reading's Jayden Wareham. PRE-ACADEMY The Pre-Academy is for the very youngest players, covering U7s, U8s and U9s. Meeting once a week, players train and learn in a fun and friendly environment under the watchful eye of our coaches. Players that show real talent have the opportunity to progress to Woking FC Academy Youth. The Pre-Academy trains at The Winston Churchill School in Woking, Thursdays, 17:00 - 18:00.

YOUTH ACADEMY Starting with U9s and progressing through the age groups right up to U16s, players train with our Academy coaches and have the opportunity to play competitively in the Junior Premier League. Training is held twice weekly at CITC’s sports hub, within the grounds of Woking College, and matches are played on Saturdays. At this level, players are able to continue playing for their grassroots clubs. As with the main Academy, players receive a progress report twice per season, which helps identify areas of their game to work on and improve. U16s players are assessed throughout the season with a view to being invited to join Woking FC Academy. WOKING FC ACADEMY Woking FC Academy is a National League licensed academy. We aim to develop each and every player to reach their full potential, instilling ambition and a professional attitude. We work as closely as possible to Category 3 Academy standards, creating a professional environment in which players thrive. Players train 5-6 hours per week at CITC’s sports hub. Their development is supported by video analysis of training and matches, group workshops and strength and conditioning sessions. One-to-one reviews are held twice every season, along with player reports so that both the coaching staff and the players themselves have a clear focus on individual development.

Woking FC Academy plays competitive matches in the U18 Isthmian League, U19 National League and also have the opportunity to play in U23 fixtures. Following two tough opponents in the last two fixtures, the u19s took to Woking College this week to complete the challenge of the top 3 teams in 3 weeks in their final home game of the season. With just two changes to the side that drew to Oxford City last week, Stevens returned to the starting eleven at the expense of Silverstein, and Mitchell made the starting lineup ahead of Ampah.

A strong first-half showing from the Cards began with an early chance for Christophers, whose effort from the edge of the box in the 3rd minute was met by Maidstone ‘keeper Chris Swift but showed hunger from the home side from the outset. The closest that Maidstone went to a goal in the opening 10 minutes was a 9th-minute ball which flashed across the goalmouth, but no one was there to turn it in. The away side went close again in the 14th minute, with a corner ball which was met by the strong punch of Honey before the follow-up shot went just wide of the left post. Woking strung a quick move forward in the 17th minute which looked to be threatening. Smith found Mitchell’s overlapping run down the left side, and the delivery into the box looked promising, but it was just out of Boxall’s reach, and the sides remained on level footing. This sums up the opening 20 minutes of the game, where both sides looked threatening on the attack, but a lack of final product meant the scoreline did not reflect the pace of the game. This changed in the 26th minute, however, when Mitchell proved his place in the starting eleven. He picked up a loose ball in the middle of the Maidstone half, and drove into the box, having done well to break away from the defence. The away ‘keeper came off his line to meet the shot, but Mitchell got a crucial touch on the effort which sent the ball into the bottom left corner. The advantage fuelled the Cards to double their tally, with Boxall the next to get an effort away. His 29th-minute effort from the edge of the area, however, was crucially blocked by Maidstone, who showed an initial desire to get straight back level, with a diving header at the back which went just wide straight after.

In the 32nd minute, Maidstone won a free kick just outside the box, another opportunity for the travelling side to draw level. The set-piece was fired goalward, but the shot was just wide. After Mitchell’s goal, the momentum remained with the Cards for much of the second half. Two shots in quick succession from Smith presented two good opportunities for a second as the first-half entered the final 10 minutes. Both efforts from around the edge of the area, however, were destined for the same outcome, as the efforts floated over the crossbar. Woking kept the pressure high as they closed a strong first-half performance. In the 41st minute, Scott did well to keep hold of the ball under high pressure and won his battle to get the ball to Mitchell. The goal scorer was closed down quickly, however, and he could not get his shot away. In the 43rd minute, a second looked to be on the cards, with Smith capitalising on a poor touch from the away defence, which allowed him to drive in behind and get his effort away from a wide angle. Maidstone’s no.1 got a strong glove to the effort, however, which limited the Cards to a narrow half-time advantage, despite a performance which deserved more. HALF-TIME: WOKING 1 – 0 MAIDSTONE UNITED The first chance of the second half fell Woking’s way, with a low free kick from just outside the box which found Stevens in the goalmouth moments after kick-off. The effort from Stevens, however, did not have the power to trouble the ‘keeper, and the ball was easily collected. The momentum created in the first half by the Cards was interrupted by the break, and despite the early chance for Woking, it was their counterparts that were able to heighten their

performance in the second half, the turning point for which was a 54th-minute penalty which was converted by Ashton Mitford and drew the teams back level. In the 59th minute, a great save from Honey denied the visitors the lead. The Woking no.1 got down to his right to block the edge of the box shot, which kept the sides level for the time being. This was changed as we entered the final 20 minutes of play, with a corner which was delivered into an overcrowded penalty area, with the shot taking a deflection from the Woking defence before it hit the back of the net. Woking created several good chances to get back into the game after the setback. In the 75th minute, Scott was presented with a golden opportunity to wipe Maidstone’s second. A ball over the top to Mitchell had to be cleared by Maidstone’s ‘keeper, who had come out of his box in an attempt to clear the danger. The clearance fell to Scott, whose eyes lit up at the sight of the empty net, but the effort from almost the halfway line went narrowly over the bar. Involved again, Scott went close in the 76th minute, after he found himself in the box, in much closer range than the previous effort, but this time the shot went just wide. A key moment for substitute Ampah fell in the 86th minute, with the dying stages of the game having presented a number of chances for the Cards to get at least a point out of the fixture. Scott’s delivery could not be reached by Ampah, however, and the home side remained in their one-goal deficit. Into injury time, Scott placed another great ball across the goalmouth, but as with before, no one was there to finish it off.

The final phase of attacking play fell to the young Cards, in the 5th and final minute of stoppage time. Brook was released in the area and tried to get his shot away, but the effort was blocked, with one final opportunity from the resulting corner. The away side were able to defend the set-piece, which forced the full-time whistle, and inflicted a cruel defeat, as Maidstone retook their position as league leaders. Reflecting on the game, Academy Manager Matt Winter stated: “I think we probably summed up our season today. We did really well the first half, got ourselves in front, and we talked at half-time about having to ride and weather some storms and the aim was to try and get the second goal and make life a little bit more comfortable, but we gave away a bad penalty, disappointing, probably happened quite often this season, and then unmarked from a set-piece which is annoying and frustrating to take.” Woking Lineup: Bob Honey, Louie Boyle, Ryan Scott, Jermaine Junior Young (Harvey Brook 87’), Tom Gardner ©, Harrison Stevens, Jack Lewis (James Orton 70’), Leo Christophers, Ben Mitchell (Jojo Ampah 78’), Lucas Boxall, Jayden Smith. Henry McDonald , Centre Midfield, 3rd year – Camberley Town: Played the full game in the 1 – 1 draw against Fleet Town in the Combined Counties League – Premier Division South (Step 5). Playing the first-half on the left side of a midfield three Henry was diligent in his defensive duties and showed good creative touches in building attacks. A change in formation at half-time allowed Henry a more attacking midfield role, and on 49 minutes he opened the scoring, hitting his shot first time, from outside the penalty area, into the empty net when Finley Purcell in the Fleet goal mishit his clearance straight to Henry, reaping the benefit of his excellent reading of the game and chasing down of the play.

Sheerwater, already assured of a lower midtable finish, were four down within 40 minutes, an error strewn display helping Balham to the victory which would save them from relegation at the expense of Sandhurst Town. It was difficult for Byron to come on and help lead the attack in these circumstances. Byron spent more time tracking back, so it was his tireless running which caught the eye, rather than any opportunities to have an impact going forwards. We wish him all the best as he now joins Sam Brittain and Harvey Brook in the NCAA in America.

Henry’s work rate didn’t diminish, even after a total of over 100 minutes of play, and he was unfortunate not to be on a winning side in Camberley’s final game of the season, Fleet equalising through Tommy Taylor after a goalmouth scramble on 59 minutes.

Aidy Silverstein , Central Defender, 2nd year – Blackfield & Langley: Played the full game in the 1 – 0 victory against Millbrook in the Wessex League – Premier Division (Step 5). A winning end, at least, to a relegation season for Blackfield.

With two games remaining Ascot are not yet guaranteed of their place in the promotion play-off positions. With a points deduction for fielding an ineligible player looking like it was going to cost Jersey the league title that would have been secured by victory, Sandhurst may have felt they had more of a chance of securing the win that would save them from relegation, but it wasn’t to be, with Balham’s run of seven wins from their last ten games ensuring Sandhurst’s relegation. As has often been the case this season, it was Harry’s excellent goalkeeping which kept Sandhurst in the game, but ultimately his outstanding contribution to Sandhurst throughout the season was to end in relegation.
