Over the next 29 days, we are likely to play nine fixtures in all competitions. Having not played for 13 days, this will take some getting used to. There is no doubt it is different to last season’s relentless schedule, but it is one we are adapting to. No doubt I will moan about the number of games soon as we are never happy! Too few games, whinge. Loads of games, moan. But we love it really. The gap in games has given us a chance to mix training and rest, including a number of double days off since we last played, to give the players and staff a chance to feel refreshed ahead of a hectic month. We are in fairly good health and have had some good training sessions during this period. But there are many ways to work a schedule. In the end, all that matters is that when the games come around, each indivudal takes personal responsibility to be ready. That means being fit and having done their work. Being focused and rehearsed. Being motivated and excited to deliver the best of which they are capable. Our rise to a new league will be very apparent

today, as it will be again on Tuesday. Sell out crowds don’t happen often at the Abbey but they are to be enjoyed and relished. I hope it is an enjoyable game to watch and a positive day for us. We want more of these days and will have to keep earning them. It is an exciting time and in a month’s time we will be a third of the way through the season. Another good review marker. To now, we are satisfied with our start. We know we can compete and we know we have some quality. We know we have to be on it and ready for games, and we know we can improve. We also know that the next few months will throw many different challenges our way but that is the game. How we rise to the challenge and cope with the consequences matters most. Let’s hear a supportive and packed Abbey today to celebrate the occasion and spur the players on to deliver the best they can. We always give our best and can’t wait for the challenges ahead, spurred on by your support, motivated by our confidence and ambition, and wise from our experiences so far. Let’s enjoy the ride together. ■ www.cambridge-united.co.uk
