Designed by the architecture and design studio Harwood Design Factory (HDF), Te Deseo features a sultry-lit interior with a series of dining rooms each expressing a unique ambiance. At the heart of the restaurant is a spacious outdoor courtyard, complete with a fully retractable roof and anchored by an awe-inspiring, must-see art display. Once discovered, the Spanish-tiled stairs lead guests to an expansive rooftop patio featuring a floor-toceiling humidor, fire pits, feature bar, and mesmerizing views of Dallas' second skyline - the Harwood District.

The cocktails and cuisine pay homage to the design, highlighting contemporary interpretations of Latin American classics. With four bars, Te Deseo offers a menu of creatively presented libations with the most popular regional spirits like aguardiente, mezcal, cachaça, and rum. High-end tequilas and mezcals are an adventurous focal point as well with a lineup of specialty flights and Te Deseo’s defining, one-of-a-kind tequila shot, Chupito de la Casa.

Executive Chef Ty Thaxton, who was recognized as one of the top chefs in Mexico, tells a meaningful yet modern culinary philosophy with Te Deseo's menu. Using open wood-fire cooking and other Latin American techniques, Te Deseo delivers elevated flavor and presentation. Guests will discover classics on the menu like fresh ceviches, guacamole, and even enchiladas that showcase a secret family recipe. It will begin with Te Deseo's interpretation of the region’s most popular dishes like the tiraditos, Peruvian-style sashimi, and the Picada Argentina, an impressive plate of housemarinated wood-fired meats, that guests will taste just what they’ve been missing.

Known for her work in residential soft contemporary design spaces, Smith brought bold and sleek touches to her respective model home.

Neutral cabinetry, walls, and living room furniture helps showcase the watercolor-esque mural as the room’s center point.

BLEU CIEL PUTS A DESIGNER TOUCH ON MODEL HOMES This is how to live in style. Bleu Ciel teamed up with Cantoni, Susan Smith Designs, LBH Interiors, and Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams as the designers to bring their unique style to life in the Sky Homes. The new 33-story luxury skyrise partnered with several high-caliber firms to design model residential homes that reflect the building’s sleek style. Two-, three-, and four-bedroom homes start at 1,639 square feet and go all the way up to 15,000 square feet.

In the glistening tower’s condominiums, residents have an expansive covered terrace that provides views of the Dallas skyline, Calatrava bridge, and endless Texas skies.

For the team’s Bleu Ciel model home, LBH paired pops of color with clean white finishes and warm wood materials for a contemporary yet comfortable interior.

The master bedroom provides a pop of color with the bold blue and yellow in balance with the room's neutral tones.

Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams Home Furnishings is a renowned manufacturer and retailer of modern home furnishings. For Bleu Ciel, designers used warm and lush textures to create a cozy feel.

Cantoni, a Dallas-based, Italian-inspired modern furniture retailer and design studio, offers personalized design services and a curated selection of highquality furnishings, art, accessories, lighting, custom cabinetry, and closet systems. For their respective model home, Cantoni designers opted for low profile furniture that doesn’t compete with the home’s stunning views and soft textures to add warmth to the space.

In the living room, Cantoni paired a blue handwoven Italian rug with a comfortable two-piece Gamma Victor leather sectional and a Gamma Lolita chair in teal Piuma leather.

In the bedroom, a Cantoni Collection Season bed made of light grey leather offers the style of a sleek low-profile bed with a soft headboard and padded platform.

THE BEST PAR-TEE AT THE BYRON NELSON As the 2019 AT&T Byron Nelson came to a close, fans celebrated with the Harwood District both on and off the golf course. The 12th hole & the Official After Party were both sponsored by Harwood.

For the second year in a row, the Harwood District Club was in full swing at the Byron Nelson. With a climate controlled interior, a viewing deck with covered seating, and food & drink, the Harwood Club was the ultimate viewing location. Harwood Club ticket holders had a cool spot to catch the action from the 12th hole. Dallas influencers Hillary Crips and Mackenzie Bay were in attendance. Despite some rain out days, spirits were high and the drinks were flowing.

For the official after party, fans continued the fun at the ‘19th hole’, Happiest Hour, in the Harwood District. Harwood District sponsored the see and be seen Kick Off Party. The Kick Off, or should we say Tee Off, was a smashing success, with over 500 people. Some of HH's famous bites such as Wings and the Happy Burger were on the menu, along with a new signature cocktail.

Created just for the Byron Nelson after party, the Happiest Pear Tee cocktail featured a refreshing blend of Grey Goose, pear vodka, elderflower liqueur & lemonade.

“SAMURAI” SEEN BY 1.5 MILLION WORLDWIDE, PREPARES FOR NEXT SHOWS

Founder and CEO of Harwood International, Gabriel Barbier-Mueller, shares his favorite reads for 2019.

CITY COMFORTS

by David Sucher Be both hedgehog and fox. Know thousands of little details. Know three big rules. The book shows examples of small things city comforts that make urban life pleasant: places where people can meet, methods to tame cars and to make buildings good neighbors, art that infuses personality into locations and makes them into places. Many of these small details are so obvious as to be invisible. The book also discusses what the author calls the Three Rules of Urban Design.

SETTING NEW STANDARDS FOR DALLAS OFFICE DESIGN Harwood No. 10, the 22-floor Class AA office tower is the tenth development in the master-planned Harwood District and is setting a new design standard for Dallas.

No. 10 was originally envisioned as a sister to No. 4 built in the mid-90s. However as real estate design and office needs have evolved, Harwood International made the decision to redesign the building to complement No. 4, rather than be similarly designed.

As a result, the building will be one of the most unique in Dallas. Jeff Smith, Director of HI’s interior design firm HDF, described the unique aspects of the building.

“The attention to detail is unlike other buildings in Dallas. The desire to give interest in a variety of unique ways is uncommon. This will have a sense that it is an art gallery and garden that people happen to office above.”

Starting on the ground floor, lush gardens from landscape architect Sadafumi Uchiyama are artfully arranged alongside 14,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space. The gardens will feel like they flow into the lobby as the architecture and design changes from a modern exterior to a warmer lobby with wood and stone finishes. The gallery-lobby will be filled with art and armor from The Ann and Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection. HDF and The Samurai Collection teams worked closely to showcase the art and create a welcoming environment for guests and visitors.

The horticulture experience on the ground floor continues with additional gardens on floors 10, 16, 17 and the Penthouse. Moving throughout the building, unique design elements are at play both inside and out. Externally, belt courses add visual interest and accommodate garden terraces on corners around the tower. The Sky Deck, an in-house wellness space, will include a fitness center, squash court, and locker room inside a garden area with water features and 8-foot caliper trees.

The building is punctuated with La Rue Perdue – a Paris-inspired pedestrian walkway framed by retail and restaurant space, outdoor seating, and additional gardens. The breezeway connects No. 4 and No. 10, and in the future will extend across N. Harwood Street into neighboring developments.

Harwood No. 10 will be welcoming its first tenants late 2019.

“We are very pleased to have been able to present this incredible samurai collection at the Kunsthalle in Munich,” said Roger Diederen, director of the Kunsthalle.

During the time between exhibitions, these samurai objects will be closely checked for conservation needs. Yet, the samurai takeover doesn’t end here.

Select objects from the family’s collection are on display in the historic exhibition, The Life of Animals in Japanese Art. The first show ever on this subject, it is collaboratively organized by the National Gallery of Art, Washington, the Japan Foundation, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) with special cooperation from the Tokyo National Museum.

Life of Animals celebrates the distinctive depiction of animals in Japanese art and includes masterpieces from both public and private collections – some of which have never been seen before by the public. The exhibition is on display at the National Gallery in Washington D.C. through late August and an abbreviated version of the exhibition opens at LACMA in late September.

“Some 130,000 visitors marveled at these beautiful objects and learned about this unique part of Japanese culture. We were especially glad to notice that many families and young visitors came to see this amazing exhibition.”

In Munich, the exhibition was titled Samurai: Pracht des japanischen Rittertums, translating to Samurai: The Splendor of Japanese Chivalry, and marked the eleventh international appearance of the traveling exhibition.

The impressive attendance in Munich ranks in the top five of the traveling exhibition’s global tour, bringing total visitors to 1.5 million since debuting at the musée du quai Branly – Jacques Chirac in Paris in 2011.

Samurai showcases more than 100 objects from the Barbier-Mueller collection that date from the seventh to nineteenth century and include helmets, masks, weaponry, and life-size samurai on horseback. The cohesive layout, narration, and design is unique to every venue.

The dramatic display in Munich drew over 1,500 people to its preview events alone and captivated the attention of hundreds of press officials and media outlets – with Germany’s most popular among them. The largest German daily newspaper, Süddeutsche Zeitung, supported the exhibition as the

Just before jet setting to the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., we were lucky to catch up with Jessica Beasley, the curator of The Ann & Gabriel Barbier-Mueller Museum: The Samurai Collection.

The Samurai Collection is the largest private collection of its kind outside of Japan. A warrior of her own kind, she also oversees the collection’s traveling exhibition, assists in the acquisition of new pieces, and is a board member for the Business Council for the Arts in Dallas.

Felix Flowers is the Harwood International Concierge at Harwood No 1. Our concierges form relationships with their tenants and help to accommodate their requests. Felix has represented Harwood International proudly for seven years and continues to lead those around him with his attitude and work ethic.

With lushy greens as far as the eye can see, the Harwood District provides a verdant playground that is pawsitively a dream…especially for our fourlegged residents. We sat down with our friend, Miss Maggie, to discuss her new digs, favorite eateries and workout routines.

How did you get involved with The Samurai Collection?

I think of myself as a people person, so I like talking to many different people. I like to make people smile and laugh. To make people feel good. I get to meet a lot of interesting people and talk with them, hear their stories. That makes my day; keeps it interesting.

Stephen Bello is the Senior Vice President of Har wood Hospitality Group, Har wood International's fastest growing division. This group drives the innovative experiences that come to life through a collection of restaurants in the Harwood District. Comprised of more than 500 associates with 60 managers, Harwood Hospitality Group has a portfolio of eight restaurants with many more concepts in development. Harwood International recently broke ground on a boutique hotel, which will also be operated by Harwood Hospitality Group.

I was working at the Dallas Museum of Art and I was fielding questions from Gabriel’s office about how to handle the collection. At that time, the family had been collecting samurai art and armor for over 10 years. The calls became more and more frequent until they requested part-time assistance. I came over and started helping the Barbier-Mueller family put together an inventory of the objects – a database of sorts. The idea of a traveling exhibition came up soon after. We decided right then and there that we were going to do a publication in conjunction with that.

At that point, it was definitely plenty of work – and much more than part-time. Since then, it's been living, dreaming, and traveling with the samurai.

How do you decide which pieces are displayed to the public at The Samurai Collection?

Here at our permanent collection, we like to do at least one exhibition a year. We always do something different that has a fresh focus. We put a new story together with every exhibition, which is really fascinating because that way we get to learn a new aspect of the samurai culture and the armor. Our next exhibition here will be called Iron Men. We’re really looking forward to it!

What’s your favorite part about being a concierge at HI?

Describe yourself in three words.

Fun. Happy. Transparent. A teacher told me one time, “Happy is the one thing nobody can take from you. It’s your choice.”

If you could hang out with anyone, who would it be and what would you do?

My boys — my sons — because I like doing things with them more than anything. Playing basketball, showing them how to check the oil in their car, change tires. Teaching them what’s going to help them down the road. They’re my superstars.

“Lead, Train, Achieve” is a motto you have around here. What does “Lead, Train, Achieve” mean to you?

It means a lot because I don’t think anybody can get enough learning. You know learning is an everyday process. And, no matter how much you know, you can always know something more. There’s an old cliché that used to be on my grandmother’s wall.

It said, ‘Know something about everything and everything about something.’ So, you never stop learning and achieving.

What is your favorite part about living at Bleu Ciel?

The dog park is the perfect place to get to know all of the new neighbors in the building! I also love getting out to Katy Trail to visit all my squirrel friends who haven’t taken up residence at Bleu Ciel…yet…:) When you need a patio, which is your go-to in the District?

My favorite spot for yappy hour would have to the bar at The Grove. Pro tip…order the pig ears…they’re the best in town!

Do you have any friends in the building?

I love everyone in the building – they’re all so nice!

I must say I’m quite partial to the front desk staff as they always give me treats when I come back from a walk.

What member of the Bleu Ciel concierge team is your favorite?

That’s a tough one because they’re all so nice! I must say that Brooke always brightens up my day because she greets me with a big smile.

What is your ideal weekend in Dallas?

First start with a boiled egg for breakfast then a long walk on the Katy Trail or yoga in the park… downward dog, anyone? Sometimes I prefer a midday snooze in the Marie Gabrielle garden followed by a car ride to White Rock Lake where I can walk around until sunset and see lots of other dogs! Then it’s back home for movie night…snuggles on the couch make for the perfect way to spend a Saturday evening.

As Senior Vice President, Stephen oversees all aspects of this vertical including restaurant development and operations; talent building and global recruiting; financial control and ROI projects; and, mentorship and human resources management.

Tell us – what’s new with Harwood Hospitality Group?

We’re incredibly busy – and that’s an understatement!

It’s a very exciting time within our division. Te Deseo is open for dinner service and cocktails, we just welcomed more than 100 new associates who are full of promise and talent, and we’re about to launch another impressive string of restaurants. Life is good.

That’s a lot of new talent! What’s the culture like?

It’s so energizing it’s contagious. Every single person brings an interesting perspective to the table that is derived from these special global experiences.

We’re comprised of people who have an abundance of a stories to tell. That only makes our story more powerful. Together, we recently developed a new mantra – CIEL. It stands for Cultivate, Innovate, Elevate, and Leave a Legacy.

What does hospitality mean to you?

Great question. It’s one of my favorites to answer.

Buildings don’t create memories. The people do.

That’s exactly what great hospitality is. It’s being welcoming, friendly, and respectful to perfect strangers and giving them the world in terms of service and experience. In today’s busy culture, it’s easy to be this brilliant on the basics. I’m confident that we’re excelling. Our “Harwood way” is working.
