HARVEY’S MODEL U.N. MOMENT

The Harvey Model United Nations (U N ) team has been working hard attending conferences and building their skills. The team learned all about how the United Nations works in order to prepare for their committees Whether it was their first conference or their seventh, the delegates worked together to perform their best.

Head Delegates Logan Kreisberg ‘26 and Lena Boyce ‘26, both members of the team since their freshman years, bring their enthusiasm to each meeting Whether it is a presentation on parliamentary procedure, crisis committees, or position papers, Logan and Lena always ensure both new and veteran delegates learn something each session Faculty advisor Ms Falcon, with assistance from Ms Munoz, guides the team through all trips, and sessions.

Working to improve each member’s individual abilities is one of the main goals of the Harvey Model U.N. team. Students who participate on the team learn to be better public speakers and communicators, and they build their confidence as leaders

The cold weather never stopped our dedicated delegates; right before the massive snowstorm at the end of January, Harvey made the trip to Philadelphia to attend their first conference of the year. The team attended ILMUNC hosted by The University of Pennsylvania All delegates excelled

Harvey started their season off with a bang, winning three accolades during their time at ILMUNC. Sofia Solares ‘27 and Madi Watson ‘27 received Outstanding Delegates, Summer Jarbath ‘26 and Talya Langer ‘26 received Verbal Commendations, and Jack Zimmerman ‘27 also received a Verbal Commendation

To round out the year, the team attended the prestigious NAIMUN conference hosted by Georgetown University Located in the heart of Washington DC, the team had fun experiences along with their fierce competition. On the second day of the trip, the team made a visit to The Supreme Court of the United States, which was truly a once and a lifetime occasion

Logan Kreisberg ‘26 and Sofia Solares ‘27 received Verbal Commendation Summer Jarbath ‘26 also received Verbal Commendation.

Dylan Coughlin ‘27, a new member of the team this year, said that participating in Model U.N. has helped her gain more independence. Dylan said on how the team’s meetings prepared her to speak publicly in front of a room of people, just one of the many skills members gain from the team.

Model U.N. trips are not all work, though Trips are filled with fun memories and outings in the local areas Dylan, for example, commented on how enjoyable it was to go out to dinner at Chili’s with friends from Harvey and her committee. Trips with the team not only give learning opportunities but social ones, as well; with thousands of teenagers all in one hotel, it is nearly impossible to not make new friends!

This year, Harvey’s Model U.N. team had great success, whether it was at the conferences or during weekly meetings They worked together throughout the year and honed their skills to dominate in their committees

Dear Harvey Readers,

THE CRIME OF TRUE CRIME Op/Ed

THE PULSE | SPRING 2026 ISSUE

The popularity of the true crime genre has taken over multiple forms of media, with “Crime Junkie” and “Dateline” being in the top two and three spots on “Apple Podcasts,” and many new true crime shows coming out across streaming platforms like Netflix and Hulu This genre is growing at an incredible rate, but is it ethical to continue producing this content?

The True Crime podcast “Crime Junkie” is hosted by Ashley Flowers and Brit Prawat It is the No 1 true crime podcast in the world and has amassed over 10 million weekly viewers since its start in 2017 The podcast releases new episodes every Monday and discusses a mix of solved and unsolved cases.

According to Bloomberg, “Crime Junkie” has become extremely successful and is estimated to make a $45 million annual profit this year. Additionally, Flowers is the founder and CEO of Audiochuck, which has secured her a $40 million raise, valuing her company at $250 million.

There is no doubt that Netflix has also found huge success with the true crime genre, as well. The Monster anthology series, depicting Eric and Lyle Menendez as well as Jeffrey Dahmer, was highly profitable

Created by Ryan Murphey and Ian Brennen, the series portrays the cases of the Menendez Brothers and Jefferey Dahmer throughout several episodes, depicting the personal lives of the perpetrators, murders, court cases, and everything in between However, these iterations glamorize the events with no respect for the victims that were affected, often bringing back horrific memories to those who were involved

The genre of true crime always brings up the questions of ethics and morals, and the truth of the matter is that the production of true crime is not ethical Crimes, and especially the people involved, are exaggerated to create a more interesting story designed to lure people into watching Also, people who create these true crime docuseries, podcasts, and videos seldom get permission from the families of those involved or give back to them in any way for the use of their story

There are various examples of creators on YouTube who have found success with the true crime genre, but many have gone about it in an unethical way that does more harm than good These creators will typically take advantage of two different types of content in order to make profit from both. One creator, Bailey Sarian, gained popularity in 2020 for her videos of retelling the events of various murder and mystery cases while applying makeup. This juxtaposition of tasks comes off as ignorant to the weight of these cases, such as the Watts family murder case in which Chris Watts murdered his wife and two daughters. Other creators, seeking quick success and in hopes of profit, often mimic this style of content because of Sarian’s success in the genre.

Importantly, psychologists have spoken on the consequences of consuming true crime content and how it can affect your mental health Psychologist Chivonna Childs warns against the over-indulgence of this genre stating, “It can increase our anxiety because we become hypervigilant We’re always looking for the bad person ” Also, mental health experts advise that over-exposure to violent television shows or podcasts, such as true crime, can desensitize people

THE STYLE SHIFT: FASHION TRENDS AND PREDICTIONS FOR 2026

The 2026 summer season rapidly approaching, and many new fashion trends are on their way Many people online have discussed the return of 2016 trends and social culture, but it seems that some have mistaken this revival for 2006 instead.

There has been a resurgence of the Pilates and yoga aesthetic with influence from East Asian culture, as reported by PureWow The fashion of this aesthetic consists of flowy silhouettes, colorful yet muted T-shirts, capri yoga pants with fitted bands, and messy ponytails and buns.

Style icons like Jessica Alba, Christy Turlington, and Gisele Bündchen have come into play with this yoga aesthetic, greatly influencing the fashion of this online niche. Netizens have even compiled photographs of celebrities in their street and yoga wear from the early 2000s, trying to replicate some of these stylish looks

Staying on theme with the 2000s, bootcut jeans are back! Making appearances in ad campaigns for Levi’s, Gap, and Lucky Brand, this style of jeans is fabulous, accentuating the wearer’s figure while still leaving a fashionable amount of wiggle room Baggy jeans often hide the body’s natural curves, leaving a somewhat unflattering silhouette, but bootcut jeans are the perfect solution, providing comfort and style.

Hollister, a brand that gained traction in the early 2000s, has also made a comeback With their many trendy and popular releases in 2025 that featured babydoll tops and henley button ups, netizens have excitedly awaited each new release Their “vault” releases have revived old styles from the brand, giving the people what they want.

With the popularity of the “clean girl” aesthetic that has had a hold on women for the past few years, the colorful and more outlandish fashion trends seem to be coming back. When one trend leans extreme on one side of a spectrum, with calm, muted tones and sleek silhouettes, the pendulum will always swing toward the other side: bold colors, big hair, and flashy accessories

The clean girl aesthetic preached perfection, an unattainable beauty standard that featured flawless, dewy skin, sleek hair, and a tasteful, understated wardrobe. Hailey Bieber has been the face of this aesthetic, influencing fashion and makeup on social media and even producing makeup products through her “clean girl” brand, Rhode Beauty Style-wise, the aesthetic pays homage to 90s minimalism, referencing Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy for style inspiration

Though this aesthetic may be upstaged by other trends, it will always have a place in media. The series “Love Story,” released February 2026 on Hulu, details the relationship between JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, but moreover, it has caused quite a stir for Bessette-Kennedy’s elegant fashion choices. Strutting around Tribeca in Hermes and Issey Miyake, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy was the original “clean girl,” praised for her muted-toned fashion choices

Film and television, in general, have had a tremendous influence on fashion. With the resurgence in popularity of the show “Sex and the City,” people have admired Carrie Bradshaw’s shoe collection and personal style, which showcases many bright colors and outlandish silhouettes Additionally, the series “Stranger Things” has evoked nostalgia for 80s clothing.

THE PULSE | SPRING 2026 ISSUE

Universal Orlando opened their brandnew Epic Universe in Spring 2025. The Epic Universe consists of five parks, which are The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Ministry of Magic, Super Nintendo World, How to Train Your Dragon Isle of Berk, Dark Universe, and Celestial Park

Each section has their own rides, places to eat, and experiences It is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. with early admission for Universal hotel guests being at 8 a.m. My family stayed in the Helios Hotel, which is the hotel that Universal connected to Epic.

We stayed there for three days, with the trip focusing on the Epic Universe. My favorite of the five sections at Epic is by far Super Nintendo World While we did go to both Universal and Islands of Adventure, it was only for a short amount of time

Super Nintendo World excels at making visitors feel like they actually are in the Mushroom Kingdom, with its upbeat music, colorful design, and lifelike characters. It has three main rides, Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge, Yoshi’s Adventure, and Mine-Cart Madness

The Mario Kart attraction puts you on Team Mario, and the goal is to beat Team Bowser. This experience is unique because participants receive augmented reality goggles that allow you to collect coins and shells to throw at various enemies. Because of these goggles, the race can feel unique each time

AN EPIC ADVENTURE

Yoshi’s Adventure is a slower, more familyfriendly attraction, in which you travel in Yoshi-themed carts and look for three hidden eggs It’s best to go on at night, as it gives you a nice lit up view of Super Nintendo World.

The last ride is only available in the Universal Orlando exclusive Donkey Kong Country, and it is a close second to my favorite rollercoaster at Epic Mine-Cart Madness has people chase after Tiki Tong in order to get back the Golden Banana. This experience features jumps and drops, and it makes you feel like you’re going off the tracks with a connected hidden cart beneath the minecart.

Other than these attractions, there are various Key Challenges that can be found across the park, and some are even hidden To play these challenges, a person must have a Power-Up Band, which is an accessory that allows you to collect coins from blocks, find Easter eggs, and most importantly, participate in challenges After collecting three keys, a person will get to face off against Bowser Jr in Bowser Jr Shadow Showdown

Bowser Jr.’s fight is less of a rollercoaster and more of a physical challenge This experience is interesting because people use their shadows to play. They will have to jump to dodge bullet bills and swing their arms to hit bob-ombs at Bowser Jr to retrieve the Golden Mushroom

The next section my family explored was The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Ministry of Magic. Set in 1920s Paris, this area is known for its delicious butterbeer, entertaining show, and its one and only ride, Harry Potter and the Battle at the Ministry.

This attraction puts parkgoers in a box similar to the Tower of Terror in Disney World, called an omnidirectional lift, which takes them throughout the Ministry. It plays almost like a 4D movie, moving the cart along with what’s happening on the screens in front of it The story has riders on their way to see the trial of Dolores Umbridge, until Death Eaters attack the Ministry and have to be stopped

As for the butterbeer, the two kinds are cold and frozen Cold butterbeer is more of a soda, whereas frozen is a slushie, both of which are refreshing on a hot day They have a good butterscotch flavor, with a vanilla foam layer on the top that helps add to the taste.

THE STYLE SHIFT CONT. FROM

PAGE 3

According to Teen Vogue, the 80s maximalist aesthetic is on the rise. This style completely contrasts the clean girl, embracing sharp hemlines and bright colors Elle magazine states, “Preppy American sportswear reminiscent of the 80s is making a comeback ” These magazines predict that lined tracksuits, collared t-shirts, and even sweaters draped lazily over the shoulders will be making a comeback for the summer of 2026, channeling brands like Lacoste and Ralph Lauren

In another realm of fashion, men are also becoming more stylish in 2026. For years, streetwear and sweats have been staples for many men on the go, but according to CNN Style, they predict that this year men will have “a desire to dress up without resorting to excess or overt display, this time with a keen focus on quality everyday staples ” This means goodbye to sweatpants and hello to khakis Fewer prints are also expected in men’s fashion for 2026

Dark Universe is known for its spooky atmosphere, which truly shines at night, creepy characters, and incredible animatronics. The Dark Universe has two rides, Monsters Unchained: The Frankenstein Experiment and Curse of the Werewolf, though I only went on the first one

4

With all the new style trends rolling in, 2026 is shaping up to be an incredible year for fashion. For the girls out there, break out your colorful clothes, and for the guys, start dressing to impress The Pulse will keep your heart beating until we report on more fashion styles on campus

Monsters Unchained features animatronics that are widely considered to be the highest quality and most lifelike robots that have ever existed The attraction puts people in the middle of Frankenstein’s great-great granddaughter, Victoria Frankenstein’s, experiments attempting to control monsters, when all of a sudden Dracula sets the monsters free, and they begin to cause chaos

How to Train Your Dragon Isle of Berk has charming scenery, plenty of dragons, and is home to my favorite ride in all of the Epic Universe, Hiccup’s Wing Gliders. This experience has parkgoers on a winged flying machine built by Hiccup, and it includes many twists and turns that make people feel like they really are taking flight Unfortunately, the other attraction that I was planning on trying at the time where you got to shoot water at others, Fyre Drill, is closed during the colder months so that ice cold water is not shot out at anyone

The final area of the Epic Universe is Celestial Park. Celestial Park is the middle area between the other sections It is full of different concession stands and has the most popular rollercoaster in all of epic, Stardust Racers, which puts you on either the green or yellow track before sending you at speeds up to 62 miles per hour.

Something important to know before going to Epic is that Express tickets are key for shorter length trips Express is at least half of the wait time of the normal line Wait queues are usually around 120 minutes for normal lines, whereas it’s only around 40 to 60 minutes at most on Express lines Though Express can be expensive, starting from $200 per person, it can go up to $300 a person, depending on the season and number of tickets

Overall, the Epic Universe has been one of the best trips I’ve gone on in a while. I definitely recommend it to anybody looking for thrills, immersive experiences, or just a fun time

THE CRIME OF TRUE CRIME CONT. FROM PAGE 2

This content is available to all audiences, but it can have irreversible consequences True crime material is almost always made at the expense of real victims and their families in order to make a profit As this genre continues to grow, I believe it is important to consider the lives that are being affected and question whether what you are watching exploits other people’s pain

Sincerely,
