This past year at Harvey has been one of purpose, progress, and transition. As I write this, my final annual report letter as Head of School, I do so with deep appreciation for all we’ve achieved together, and with great confidence in Harvey’s path forward.
The 2024-2025 academic year marked the second full year of our new strategic plan, and we continued to make strides in personalized education, student wellness, campus development, and financial sustainability. These priorities continue to guide our work and shape the Harvey experience for every student.
Academically, we expanded access and opportunity for our students. Those who had completed AP Calculus AB and BC were offered advanced coursework through Stanford University, and we launched additional electives, including after-school gardening programs in both the fall and spring, reinforcing experiential learning and environmental awareness. Our faculty, too, benefited from expanded support this year. We launched a two-day mentoring and orientation program for younger faculty in August, designed to build confidence, skills, and community. This investment in our educators is an investment in the future of Harvey, and I am proud of the collaborative, growth-minded culture that continues to thrive here.
This was also the first full school year under our cell phone-free policy, and it is hard to overstate the positive impact it has had on campus life. In classrooms, common spaces, and across all aspects of daily life, we’ve seen increased focus, deeper connection, and a return to more authentic face-toface interaction. Harvey is proud to have implemented this change a full year before many of our peer schools, and we remain committed to creating an environment where student wellness and balance are prioritized.
Beyond the academic year, Harvey’s summer programs grew significantly. With new offerings — including Hockey Camp, AI Camp, Cross Country, and Baseball Camp — we welcomed 321 young people to campus, more than doubling last year’s attendance and revenue. These camps not only energized our campus during the summer months, but also introduced Harvey to many prospective families.
A major highlight of the year was the completion of the Weil House and Barn Complex. This new space has already become a vibrant hub for student and parent events, and alumni gatherings. As the front door to our campus, it reflects both our ambitions and the generosity of those who believe in Harvey’s future.
To our parents: thank you for being active, passionate members of this community. Your time, energy, and support are deeply appreciated. To our faculty and staff: your dedication to our students and to each other is the foundation of everything we do. And to our students: your curiosity, creativity, and drive inspire us all.
With gratitude,
Bill Knauer P’23 Head of School
The Harvey School exists to provide students with the tools, support, and opportunities they need to thrive, both in and beyond the classroom. This mission continues to guide every decision we make as a Board, and this past year was a true reflection of that commitment in action.
We were thrilled to celebrate the completion of the Weil House and Barn Complex, a transformational project that is already enhancing daily life on campus. The building now houses the majority of our administrative offices, which has freed up valuable space at the top of campus for academic purposes. In addition, it has quickly become a vibrant hub for student activities, alumni events, and community gatherings. We’re deeply grateful to the donors who brought this vision to life.
Looking ahead, we are excited to have launched a facilities master planning process, led by the Board of Trustees in partnership with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents. This collaborative effort will create a strategic roadmap for the future of Harvey’s campus development.
This year also marks a period of leadership transition. After ten years of outstanding service, Head of School Bill Knauer chose to conclude his tenure at the end of the 2025-2026 academic year. Bill has led Harvey through a decade of change and challenge — including the COVID-19 pandemic — always protecting what makes this school so special while positioning it for long-term success. We are profoundly grateful for his vision, dedication, and steady leadership.
The search for our next Head of School is already well underway, with a committee led by Trustee Ashley Foote and supported by Carney, Sandoe & Associates, a nationally recognized search firm. Many of you have already spoken with the consultants, and we thank you for contributing your perspectives. Your voices are helping shape the future of Harvey.
Through every change and milestone, the strength of the Harvey community has never been greater. As always, the heart of that support is the Harvey Fund, our most important annual fundraising initiative. As an independent school, Harvey operates on a dual-revenue model: tuition and philanthropy.

The Harvey Fund bridges the gap, covering approximately 4-6% of our annual operating expenses. In many ways, it represents the tax-deductible portion of your tuition — and it is essential to the daily life of the School.
We are especially grateful to our Leadership Donors, who contributed $7,500 or more during the 2024-2025 fiscal year. Your generosity makes an extraordinary difference, and is a powerful expression of belief in Harvey’s mission.
Thank you to our fellow Trustees, faculty, parents, alumni, and friends. Your commitment, generosity, and involvement make Harvey what it is, and help ensure its continued strength for generations to come. We look forward to all we will accomplish together in the year ahead.

In support of Harvey’s commitment to our students and their individual development, we ask that parents/guardians commit to participating in the Harvey Fund at whatever level feels appropriate for their family.
Parent/guardian support ensures the quality and depth of a Harvey education and helps fulfill our mission to inspire passion, nurture curiosity, and create community. We are grateful to our families, who showed their faith and support by making a financial commitment to the Harvey Fund.

We are equally grateful to all of our Harvey families who contributed to Days of Giving 2025. Together, you helped raise over $265,000, directly enhancing student life through investments in new technology, facility improvements, faculty development, and innovative programs that strengthen the classroom experience.

To celebrate the culmination of our students’ middle school years, the eighth grade families leave a meaningful legacy gift to the Krasne Middle School. This year, the Eighth Grade class gift will support the expansion of the existing softball field into a Middle School soccer and multi-purpose field.

Our alumni are an integral part of the Harvey community; their support not only sustains us but propels us forward. We are deeply grateful to the alumni who generously contributed philanthropically and to those who shared their time and expertise with current students. Leading by example and engaging in alumni events inspires the next generation and strengthens the bonds that make Harvey so exceptional. Together, we can continue to shape the future and ensure that Harvey’s legacy and the student experience thrive for years to come.

Launched in 2016, the Weil House and Alumni Barn renovation and restoration marked an ambitious vision to preserve Harvey’s history while building for its future.
This fall we proudly completed the project, bringing to life a beautifully restored Weil House and Alumni Barn with a welcome center and office spaces that together will serve as a cornerstone for our community.
This project provides more than a striking new front door to campus — it creates a dedicated welcome center for families and visitors while also freeing up much-needed student space on the main campus. These improvements ensure that Harvey can continue to grow, thrive, and provide an exceptional learning environment for our students.
We look forward to welcoming the Harvey community into a home that reflects both our tradition and our future.

This year, Harvey launched a special brick fundraising campaign designed to leave a lasting mark at the heart of our campus. The campaign invites members of the Harvey community—past and present—to honor their connection to the School with a personalized engraved brick.
Together, these bricks will form a new path across the Quad, symbolically linking the stories, traditions, and people who shape Harvey. As this path takes shape, it will not only enhance our campus landscape but also serve as a daily reminder of the strength and continuity of our community.

A school endowment is a pool of funds that is invested for the purpose of generating consistent interest income for the institution.
Thanks to the commitment and dedication of our Investment Committee, our Endowment, including the Ronald Duncan Trust, has grown to more than $8 million. The majority of our funds are dedicated to financial aid and faculty professional development, and materially impact the lives of our students and faculty. To discuss how your interests can match a need at Harvey, please contact Sarah Parker at sparker@harveyschool.org.

Thanks to the extraordinary generosity of John L. Loeb Jr. ’44, former U.S. Ambassador to Denmark (1981-1983), Harvey students have a unique opportunity to explore one of the nation’s founding principles: religious freedom. Ambassador Loeb, a proud Harvey alumnus, has endowed the Ambassador Loeb Religious Freedom Essay Contest, a new initiative designed to encourage students to reflect on the historical and contemporary significance of religious freedom. This year’s winner was Sonia Espitia ’26.

Members of this ever-growing, generous group have indicated that they have made provisions for Harvey in their estate plans. We are truly grateful to all those who have made provisions in their will for The Harvey School. Through these generous bequests, Harvey is assured long-term fiscal health.

Bequests can take many forms, including a specific dollar amount or a portion of what remains of an estate after obligations to others are fulfilled. Donors may receive generous tax reductions for themselves and their heirs by naming The Harvey School as a beneficiary of an estate or trust.
Unrestricted bequests are particularly welcomed since they provide flexibility to the school’s trustees to use the gift in whatever way is needed the most. We recognize that some donors, however, have specific interests that they want to encourage and support.
Gifts for specific purposes should be described as broadly as possible. For example, a donor may want to leave a gift restricted for scholarships, faculty support, or a particular program. The donor’s attorney or estate planner as well as a Harvey School representative should be consulted to accommodate individual circumstances.

» Charitable remainder trusts place assets in trust for the benefit of the school, while a fixed percentage of the trust or annuity is paid out to the donor, a family member, or another beneficiary. The donor may choose to have income paid for the life of a beneficiary or for a certain number of years. At the end of the term, these assets are transferred to The Harvey School.
» Charitable lead trusts are established by transferring cash or other assets to a trustee who invests the principal and pays income to Harvey for a period designated by the donors. When the term of the trust expires, the principal is transferred to a donor’s family or other beneficiary at what may be a significant gift and estate tax savings.

This year’s gala highlighted the remarkable creativity of our parent volunteers and the outstanding talent of our fine arts faculty and staff who helped transform The Walker Center for the Arts into a French-themed cabaret.
Guests enjoyed an unforgettable evening of dancing, a silent auction, live performances, and a rousing live auction. Together, we raised our paddles, lifted our spirits, and strengthened support for the Harvey community.

This year, Harvey re-introduced a Development Internship Program, offering students the opportunity to work alongside the Development Office and gain firsthand experience in the fields of philanthropy and nonprofit management. Interns played an active role in supporting the School’s mission by assisting with event preparation, organizational projects, and campaign initiatives.
Their contributions not only strengthened the work of the Development team but also provided them with valuable insight into how philanthropy helps sustain and advance independent schools.
