Encourage your students to exercise their creativity by starting a newsletter. While it seems like a daunting project, a student-made newsletter will give them firsthand experience in writing, research, planning, management, and design
Start by helping them come up with a goal for their newsletter. What will it be about? Who will read it? Ask for suggestions on the newsletter's name then have them vote the best one Pick their brains for ideas on what they can write about. Consider school events, community activities, or even the things that happen in their classroom. Aside from news articles, they can also feature their own literary efforts. Suggest that they write poems, songs, short stories, and one-act plays Tell them they can write funny essays and silly jokes, too!
Long Ducker Art
Reflection by Rayna
At the very center, we featured the Long Ducker mascot, unifying the composition, and incorporated Harrow's primary colors throughout the piece. On behalf of all the Year 12 art scholars, we can confidently say this was an amazing opportunity to collaborate and create something truly imaginative. We are incredibly proud of the final artwork and look forward to many more creative projects like this in the future.
For the Long Ducker event, the Year 12 art scholars were tasked with creating an artwork that represented this year's themes. While brainstorming ideas and drafting our initial sketch, we aimed to incorporate the four key concepts Ms. Yang emphasised: peach blossoms/peach blossom gardens, love, environmental protection, and peace. To convey these themes clearly, we divided the canvas into four distinct sections, each dedicated to one of these ideas. The giving hands to represent love, the dove and laurels to show peace, the earth to symbolise care for our environment, and finally the peach blossoms to stress the idea of a utopia.

Second-Hand Clothing Sale
Sofia, Y12 Gellhorn
20th & 21st of January
After months of gathering donations from Gellhorn, we finally pulled off a lively clothing sale at the temple. It was such a joy to watch all those second-hand pieces find new homes, and I loved seeing the unique, oneof-a-kind treasures people had given.
The best part, though, was how we promoted the clothes: by wearing them ourselves! It turned into a playful fashion show of sorts, and honestly, that little twist was the highlight of the whole event.
Aunties Assembly Reading PATHFINDERS
Nicolas’ reflection on the event:
For the past 2 years, I have been working closely with Pathfinders, a charity committed to supporting migrant domestic workers (especially those who become pregnant in Hong Kong), to support one of their objectives to humanise aunties. Thus, I founded the Pathfinders student team first in Yew Chung International School, then in Harrow International School
Following the release of the book My Extra Special Auntie, a charity book where revenue directly funds Pathfinders, I suggested to Catherine (the CEO of Pathfinders) to allow me to share the book with Yew Chung International School primary students, performing 5-6 assemblies on humanising MDWs Most recently, I performed one of these assemblies in Harrow Lower School, raising important problems regarding discrimination against aunties, and humanising them
The feedback from teachers were extraordinary, and with support from Ms Monaghan, I was able to conduct an effective and interactive assembly, where students answer questions that allow them to examine their own behaviour when interacting with their MDWs: e.g. Who has cake on their birthday? → Do you buy a cake for your aunties?
Subsequently, using the funds I earned from the Kids 4 Kids Young Entrepreneurs Program, I started my own charity – The Sunday Artisan Fund This charity aims to uplift aunties’ wellbeing through monthly artisan craft workshops, allowing them to interact with other aunties and express their emotions through art Under this charity, I also started the Women of Hong Kong magazine, which created a platform that allowed my team and I to interview aunties, and write it up into a magazine – telling the story of those who walk next to the spotlight
I strive to continue my work in advocacy for MDWs.
The scythe hangs around my throat, remember me day by day - choking me into non-linear
But in the Shang-ri la, I just want to stay.
A boat, a fisherman, a land of dreams
A lost paradise, where no one can see
A place left and forgotten by men
Who knows when they will find it again

ANDERSONS
GALENTINESSALE
WhatWeLearned
For the pre-long ducker programme, Anderson hosted a Galentine’s goody bag sale. The mystery bags contained not only a cute bracelet (handmade by the Anderson girls) but also some yummy snacks and sometimes heartfelt messages It was great to see everyone showing their love to their friends whilst supporting Anderson’s house charity, the Fred Hollows Foundation. We managed to make over 3 thousand, so I would say it was a huge success!

Ashley’s reflection
The charity society Chinese New Year bake sale was a success. We made a lot of money promoting Long Ducker stall, selling small snacks, baked goods and sweet treats. Volunteering at the Long Ducker charity stall was a sweet experience Our table, laden with homemade cakes, colourful cupcakes, and small packets of snacks, became a vibrant hub of activity.

Race for Light Initiative
In the lead-up to the Long Ducker, Bank's House held our charity booth, "Race for Light" on March 3 The aim was to have some fun while supporting the Fred Hollows Foundation, an organisation dedicated to restoring sight for those who are blind or vision impaired.
The "Race for Light" Cup Challenge invited participants to showcase their speed and coordination on cup stacking, with the option to try the activity blindfolded to understand the experience of those the Foundation supports. It was wonderful to see members of the community come by to show their support. Whether they were racing against each other or simply stopping by to make a donation and enjoy some snacks, every contribution was a vital step towards our goal. A special thank you goes out to the Banks boys who helped run the booth, creating a fun and welcoming atmosphere.
The "Race for Light" was a success in bringing our friends together, raising funds for an important cause, and adding to the anticipation for the main event ahe world for someone in n

Brendan’s Reflection
I think the charity stall we ran for the Pre-Long Ducker Charity Program was a success. We sold Snacks and homemadelemonade, andall proceeds went to our house charity, RMHC. Brendan and I were surprised that we raised over 2,000 HKD, especially since it was our first time setting up a charity stall. I hope we can do something similar again next year and raiseevenmoremoneyforour housecharity.

CHURCHILL HOUSE’S
LONG DUCKER STALL
BRANDON’S REFLECTION
Churchill House’s stall at this year’s Long Ducker was impossible to miss. From the first netball thrown, our stall was alive with cheers, laughter, and a steady queue of people eager to test their aim and win prizes The setup was beautifully straightforward: land a shot and win a plushie Yet what truly caught us off guard was the sheer joy and overwhelming generosity that such a simple game could spark
The energy was high from the moment we opened. Volunteers arrived early to set up the netball posts and arrange the prizes, and they stayed until the very last plushie was won. They explained the rules, encouraged nervous first-timers, celebrated every prize, and somehow kept smiling even when their arms ached from retrieving stray balls. Their hard work turned a game into a genuine community experience, and I am so proud of every single one of them.
Churchill House raised over 10,000HKD Every dollar of that impressive total will go directly towards our charitable work, making a lasting difference To our volunteers, our players, and everyone who donated, thank you for making this Long Ducker stall our most memorable yet
The Keller Long Ducker stall was extremely successful this year, consisting of the Slip n ' slide, tombola andbraceletbar.TheSlipn'slidewas definitely the highlight, especially because it was a hot, sunny day-one kidevenwentonmorethan60times! It was wonderful to see everyone participating in the events and celebrating a day dedicated to charity, I hope to see Keller's success duringtheLongDuckernextyear!
Thank you to everyone who has helped out on the stall and helped bringtheTombolaprizes!
LYON HOUSE’S
LONG DUCKER STALL
It was amazing to see so many pupils offering their time. The house council pupils also helped a lot in terms of preparing the resources to run the food stall and the mini games. It was great to see so many pupils having fun at the Long Ducker 2026 event, and I am really looking forward to next year!
The Lyon House long ducker 2026 was a huge success. Many pupils from lower school all the way up to upper school have enjoyed Lyon's two main stalls. The first, shoot the HM’s teeth, and second, Lyon’s Bites. Pupils loved the first main stall as they could earn huge prizes. Many pupils from Lyon also helped with the stall, and some even offered up a whole day to help.

SHACKLETON HOUSE’S
LONG DUCKER STALL
AARON’S REFLECTION
This years long ducker was a massive success, we as Shackleton raised more than 5000 dollars and everyone was super proactive and helpful during the process. We had great productivity through the day and made lots of people’s days. We sold particularly well after the long and short ducker finished as the runners and walkers were in a great mood for snow cones. I think this year we bought a little less than what we could have sold, as we sold out hours before the event ended But I think it’s still a big improvement from last year. For next year I want Shackleton’s stall to be even more grand with different toppings and many different flavors. As some flavors ran out quickly and we only had one topping option this year. But I still think we did a great job. I can’t thank Mr Bussey and the team enough for this amazing long ducker.
Sun House’s Long Ducker Stall
Brendan’s Reflection
Hosting the Long Ducker charity bean bag and ring toss stall was a rewarding and eye-opening experience Me and Aaren were responsible for planning and organizing the activity, which included setting up the stall, preparing materials, and making sure everything ran smoothly throughout the event As the hosts, I also guided participants, explained the rules clearly, and kept theenergypositivetoattractmorepeople.
One of the most fulfilling parts was seeing participants enjoy Long Ducker while supporting a meaningful cause Knowing that the stall contributed to raising funds made the experience even more worthwhile. However, being in charge also came with challenges. At around 2:30, we ran out of snacks, which meant I had to quickly think of a solution while managing participants’ expectations This situation tested my adaptability and problem-solving skills, as I had to stay calm and keep the stall running smoothly despite the setback.
