This summer we invite you on an extraordinary journey though music, art and adventure. The HACS Harrogate Music Fes�val presents a breathtaking lineup, blending world-class performances with unique, immersive experiences designed to discover and celebrate theworldaroundus.

A true highlight of this season is Gaia by renowned ar�st Luke Jerram – a magnificent installa�on that brings Earth itself to life in a stunningvisualspectacle.

Beneath the surface, prepare for an unforge�able series of performances with our Gigs at Gaia season. From orchestral performances with Orchestra for the Earth to choral concerts by candlelight with The Marian Consort, brilliant brass from Connaught Brass to Insterstellar organ recitals, there is a host of performancessettosurpriseanddelight.

We launch the season with the inimitable Mike Lova�’s Brass Pack at the Royal Hall, Fes�val Favourites Oddsocks return to town with A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and we con�nue to proudlyshowcasethenextgenera�onoftalentin our Young Musicians Series offering a pla�orm forrisingstarstoshine.

Mike Lova� is a renowned UK virtuoso trumpeter, recording ar�st, and sought-a�er educator, celebrated for his versa�lity across genres. He is Principal Trumpet of the Grammy-nominated John Wilson Orchestra, the BBC Big Band, and Superbrass, and has performed as a soloist on numerous film scores,includingAvengers:EndgameandJudy. Drawing inspira�on from Billy May’s Big Fat Brassalbum,Lova�formedMikeLova�'sBrass Packtorecreateitsiconicsoundandintroduce new arrangements. The group features a unique brass ensemble with French horns replacing saxophones and has cap�vated

audiences with performances like the Suite from Carmen arranged by Colin Skinner. Having launched at the Harrogate Music Fes�val in 2023, Mike Lova�’s Brass Pack are returning this year with a programme of Hollywood hits to kick the 2025 Fes�val off in style. The Brass Pack will be joined by Anna JaneCasey,bestknownforherworkinmusical theatre, starring in shows such as Cats, West Side Story and Chicago. This exci�ng collabora�on promises to deliver an unforge�able evening of glitz, glamour, and �meless tunes.

Founded in 2013 in Turin, Trio Concept have quickly established themselves as one of the leading ensemblesintheclassicalmusicworld.In2023,theywonFirstPrizeattheSchoenfeldInterna�onal String Compe��on in Harbin, China, and the YCAT interna�onal audi�ons at Wigmore Hall. In the summer of 2025, Oddsocks will hit the road once again with another high-energy, feel-good theatre show perfect for the whole family.

The Duke’s about to marry, but chaos is brewing. Four young lovers have bolted into the woods, thinking they’ll escape their problems, but they’ve only run into trouble with a bunch of woodland tricksters and a couple of very mischievous fairies. Alistair McGowan is a highly talented comedian, actor, impressionist, writer, and pianist, known as one of the best comedianimpressionists in the UK. He gained fame with his BAFTA-winning TV show The Big Impression, where he impersonated public figures. Alistair is a regular on BBC comedy programs and o�en hosts corporate events. A�er rediscovering his love for the piano later in life, he released The Piano Album in 2017, which topped the classical charts. His show offers a deligh�ul mix of comedy, poetry, and music that will leave audiences both entertained and inspired. Charlo�eSpruitisaDutchviolinistknownforher expressive performances as both a soloist and chamber musician. She has played at major venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Wigmore Hall in London, and with orchestras such as the Residen�e Orkest, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic, and Ensemble Esperanza.

Charlo�e enjoys exploring crea�ve ways to connect with audiences, including collabora�ons that combine music with visual art. In 2022, she and ar�st Jérémie Queyras won a prize for their mul�disciplinary performance at the Goodmesh Concours. The morning concert opens with Beethoven’s final violin sonata, the gentle yet noble Sonata No. 10 in G major, Op. 96 followed bySchumann’spassionate Violin Sonata No. 2 in D minor, Op. 121,knownforitsemo�onalintensity and sweeping roman�c lines. Luke Jerram’s GAIA 4 - 12 July | St Wilfrid’s Church

Measuring six metres in diameter and featuring high-resolu�on NASA imagery, this breathtaking sculptureoffersarareopportunitytoviewourplanetinthreedimensions.Theartworkis2.1million �messmallerthantherealEarthwitheachcen�metreoftheinternallylitsculpturedescribing21km of the Earth’s surface. By standing 181m away from the artwork, the public will be able to see the Earth as it appears from the moon.

Gaia evokes the Overview Effect, first described by author Frank White in 1987 this awe-inspiring shi� in perspec�ve is o�en described by astronauts when viewing Earth from space.

Common features of the experience for astronauts are a feeling of awe for the planet, a profound understandingoftheinterconnec�onofalllife,andarenewedsenseofresponsibilityfortakingcare of the environment. See

Orchestra for the Earth was established in England in 2018 with the mission of promo�ng the importance of caring for and protec�ng our planet. John Warner, the founder and current ar�s�c director, is an emerging talent in the world of conduc�ng. He serves as the Conductor in Residence with Oxford Opera and has conducted some of the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic.

The orchestra’s repertoire o�en reflects themes of nature and the environment. The concert will open fi�ngly with Grieg’s MorningMoodfrom Peer Gynt which captures nature’s quiet awakening, whilst IntheHalloftheMountainKingwill capture the mystery and drama of nature through its gradually intensifying rhythm. Vaughan Williams’ beloved TheLarkAscendingoffers a moment of s�llness and evokes a sense of serenity celebra�ng the beauty of the English countryside. This is a musical journey through light, shadow, and open sky—an evening to s�r the senses and reconnect with the natural world through sound.

Following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, both legendary kora players, Jali Bakary Konteh infuses tradi�onal songs with his own dis�nct touch, weaving innova�ve melodicandrhythmicarrangements.Thekora,

a tradi�onal West African stringed instrument, is played by plucking with the fingers and can be compared to a lute or harp. A highly versa�le musician, Konteh performs both as a soloar�standwithhisband,Minyanta,aswell as with the Balimaya Project – an exci�ng 16piececollec�veblendingWestAfricanfolkloric music with jazz. In his solo a�ernoon concert, Bakary Konteh will be performing a variety of tradi�onal kora pieces, showcasing the dis�nc�ve rhythmic pa�erns and melodic beauty the kora creates.

A rela�vely new talent in the chamber music world, Connaught Brass have already made their debut at the Lucerne Fes�val and London’s Wigmore Hall. The vibrant ensemble seeks to redefine how brass chamber music is perceived, using their individual musical personali�es to produce a unique collec�ve sound. Yevgeny Sudbin is a renowned pianist who has performed at top venues such as London’s Royal Fes�val Hall and New York’s Lincoln Center. His recordings have won many awards, including Gramophone’s 2023 Recording of the Year. A former student at the Royal Academy of Music, he is now a visi�ng professor. His upcoming Harrogate concert promises an exci�ng and diverse programme, showcasing his excep�onal skill and musical range. Sudbin is set to bring his expressive touch to Bach’s Fantasia and Fugue in A minor, highligh�ng its emo�onal depth and complexity. In Liszt’s Funérailles, the piece’s drama�c intensity will capture feelings of mourning and grandeur, allowing Sudbin to showcase his remarkable technical skill and interpre�ve sensi�vity.

Under the glow of Luke Jerram’s stunning Gaia installa�on, three brilliant minds take the stage to explore what it means to live on — and love — this planet.

Joshua Howgego, author of The Meteorite Hunters, Isobel Losata writer of The Joyful Environmentalist, and Tom Philips; A Brief History of the End of the F*cking World join us for an extraordinaryevening of ideas, wit, and wonder as our speakers bring big ques�ons down to earth. From stones that fell from the sky to hopeful paths through climate crisis, to our strange obsession with the apocalypse, this is a night that dares to ask:What happens when we zoom out and look at our world from the outside in?

Each speaker has just 25 minutes to inform, challenge, and inspire – with breaks in between to grab a drink, chat with friends, or meet the speakers and pick up a signed copy of their books. It’s an evening designed to open your mind, spark conversa�on, and connect us more deeply with the world around us.

Alannah, a former pupil of St. Aidan’s School, Harrogate,iscurrentlytakingagapyearbefore studying at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Her musical journey began at age 5 with piano and at 7 with flute. In 2019, Alannah won her category at the European PianoTeachersAssocia�onCompe��onatthe Royal Academy of Music. Now focusing on the flute, she studies with renowned flau�st Anna Noakes at the Royal Academy of Music. She won Ripon Young Musician of the Year in 2023 and the Harrogate Young Musician of the Fes�val in 2024. Alannah also reached the na�onal final of the Rotary Club Music Compe��on. She is Principal Flute in the Opera North Youth Orchestra, performing works by composers like Sibelius and Shostakovich. Earlier this year Alannah gave a local recital at Christ Church, Harrogate, and this concert marks her debut at the Harrogate Interna�onal Fes�vals.

Harrogate Interna�onal Fes�vals accept all major credit/debit cards (except American Express), as well as cash. In order to cover the cost of postage there is an addi�onal £1.50 charge for postal orders, however, you can choose to collect your �ckets on the door of the event or at the Fes�val office prior to the event.

Booking Fee:

Harrogate Interna�onal Fes�vals charges a £2.50 transac�on fee for all bookings. Ticket sales alone do not cover the costs of our Box Office and booking fees are vital to development, maintenance and running of our in-house Box Office. We endeavour to keep our booking fees as low as possible and this charge is per order, not per individual �cket. Visitors with Disabilities:

All Fes�val venues have wheelchair access and we offer free �ckets for carers. For more informa�on and to book wheelchair sea�ng please call our Box Office.

Tickets on the Door:

Subject to availability, �ckets will be sold at the venue 30 minutes prior to the performance, and a £2.50 transac�on fee will apply. Please be aware �ckets can sell out in advance and booking early is recommended.

Returned Tickets:

The Box Office cannot refund money or exchange �ckets, except in the case of a cancelled event.

Concessions:

Concessions are available for under 18s, students in full �me educa�on and those receiving unemployment benefits. Appropriate ID must be provided. May not be used in conjunc�on with any other offers.

Multi buy offers:
