GLOSSARY OF TERMS Almost Alumnae Luncheon The Harpeth Hall Alumnae Association sponsors a luncheon honoring the Senior class and their mothers (or a special friend) in May. This fun and nostalgic event kicks-off the end of the year festivities, Thursday, April 30.

College T-shirt Day Seniors are allowed to wear the T-shirt of the college they will attend along with their plaid skirt on May 13, 2020.

Senior House Located between the Massey Wing of the Upper School and Souby Hall, the Senior House is decorated, maintained, and used by the current Senior class.

College Visits Seniors are allowed three excused absences to visit colleges. Parents should email the student’s College Counselor, including the day(s) the student will be absent, and the name of the college(s) she will visit.

The College Counselor will then give the student the College Visit Absence Form, which must be signed by all teachers and turned in to the Upper School office before the trip.

Prom Presentation Seniors are presented during prom presentation by the person of their choice.

Senior Off Campus Lunch Once a month, Seniors are allowed to dress up and go off campus during lunch. No inappropriate casual clothes will be allowed.

WHITE DRESSES White Dresses Seniors follow the long established tradition of wearing white dresses to Senior Recognition Assembly, Step Singing, and Graduation. These are academic ceremonies and the dresses should be tasteful and not revealing. We encourage you to select a dress that is more garden party than evening wear. Please avoid plunging necklines, strapless dresses, backless dresses, side slits, and cut outs. The emphasis should be on the girls and the ceremony, not the dresses.

Dresses should be simple and hopefully not a major expense.

The HHPA hosts the White Dress consignment sale several times throughout the year. We encourage the girls to consider wearing the same white dress to more than one event.

Girls often borrow white dresses as well. If there are questions or concerns about attire, a student should check in advance with a counselor, the Dean of Students, or the Division Director. We want every student to feel comfortable and are

Senior Recognition Assembly (September) On the day of Senior Recognition Assembly, all Seniors wear a white dress (no shorter than 3 inches above the top of the knee, no strapless, no cutouts, and not tight) and shoes or sandals, which are white or neutral in color.

Step Singing (May) Seniors wear a white dress (knee-length or longer) or white skirt (knee-length or longer) and white blouse. Students must also wear shoes or sandals, which are white or neutral in color.

SENIOR YEAR ADDITIONAL EXPENSES

Advanced Placement (AP) Exams All students enrolled in an AP Course are expected to take the AP exam.

Each AP exam is $94; the cost of AP exams will be added to the student’s March Harpeth Hall bill.

Class Ring (Optional) Available to Seniors who did not order a ring Junior year. Order information will be available in mid-September and due in early October. Cost is $255-$600 (Harpeth Hall rings are signet or birthstone rings). Questions: Contact Mike Smiley at Herff Jones, (615) 329-2504.

College Application Fees (Vary by College) College Enrollment Deposit Once a student decides which college or university she will attend, there is usually an enrollment deposit as well as a housing deposit. Many colleges also have a required fee for orientation.

Graduation Invitations (Optional) Seniors will receive information about the Harpeth Hall graduation invitiation, name card, and thank you note in December from Herff Jones.
