Overlooking the Pacific Ocean to the west and the Sea of Chiloe and southern Andes mountains to the east, the tree house is placed in a natural clearing on sloped terrain, part of a diverse landscape that includes hills, bays, and estuaries.
Nestled among tall Chilean myrtle trees, Casa Detif’s materials were used to blend in and become part of the landscape, and allows for gorgeous views of the sea, with frequent sightings of whales and dolphins. This arrangement also prevents the trees from falling on the house, and for natural light to be trapped, creating a warm and more softer atmosphere.

The villa backs onto a bridge and is connected to a living space. This frames the nature surrounding the villa, and connects the house in three horizons.
“Ab-pari” or “House of Fog”, is a mythical name referring to a beautiful fountain in the heart of the mountains with the same name. This region located in Royan, Mazandaran is an elevated mountainous landscape with dense forests spanning all over it.
The steep slopes are indulged in fog, which creates a delusional vision. This foggy horizon triggers a desire to walk down the silky white plateau. The “Ab-Pari” project is located on a steep slope facing this magnificent scenery.

In the living room, the clean white material palette is transformed through the dynamic art of Leo Villareal’s LED installation, shifting the hues in revolving shades of sunrise yellows to twilight blues.
The expansive vista of wildflower-laden bluffs with the ocean beyond provided a dynamic setting to create a home for a couple with nostalgic connections to their East Coast roots and a newfound desire to embrace more contemporary and minimalist ways of living.
They approached the design by reinterpreting classic Cape Cod architecture, including asymmetrical pitched roofs, shingle siding, and shed dormers, while expressing more modern interiors, essentially threading the needle between old and new. The interior lets the outdoors in with large expanses of frameless windows and sliding glass doors.
The end result is a deeply personal home that strikes a balance between traditional and modern while celebrating the raw beauty of the California Coastline.

This was meant to create an effortless transition between the exterior and interior living spaces.
The house has an expansive living room, with the architects designing several seating areas; this includes a formal dining setting, reception room, and a casual family room. These areas can be combined together and closed off by full-height sliding doors that allow for privacy.
The house also has three bedrooms, each with an ensuite and terrace, but the main bedroom overlooks a swimming pool and a natural forest.

Rectangular in plan, the building consists of a tasting room and wine garden that is separated by a covered breezeway, and includes an extruded skylight that allows in natural light. The whole structure of the building is meant to give spectacular views of the scenery, with numerous shaded outdoor spaces created for visitors to enjoy the region’s dry, hot summers.
