Clarington,Ontario Architect: Scott Posno Design, scottposno.com Interior Design: &Daughters, and-daughters.com fdf Located an hour east of Toronto, THE FARM occupies a 65-acre site amidst the peaceful green fields of this Southwestern Ontario agricultural region, adjacent to a large conservation forest. It serves as a weekend and vacation home for the client, his grown children, and a variety of friends and family who frequent the tranquil property for relaxation and enjoyment year-round, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

THE FARM was not conceived of as a single iconic house in the country but, as a compound of buildings that engage the compelling qualities of site and landscape in such a way as to maximize use and enjoyment while establishing a greater connection to nature. Immediately adjacent to the garage at the north end of the house, a Zen Garden manifests as a perfectly square, semi-enclosed structure that is meant to encourage group or solitary activities such as yoga, meditation, reading or simply relaxing.

Fifty feet south of the main house, a secondary zone focuses activity on an outdoor pool, hot tub and a sunken fire pit beneath another trellis. Small accessory sheds contain a sauna, pool equipment and mechanical functions. Additionally, there is a separate, enticingly compact cabana that mirrors.

The Big Bubble has already become the icon in Alex’s oeuvre since he first launched it in 2013. These light objects are all unique as they are mouth-blown in the Czech Republic, always under Alex’s watchful eye. Alex is pushing the glassblowers to twist their skills further every time again, up until the very moment in which the Bubbles almost collapse. This requires tremendous control of craftsmanship.

Costa Esmeralda, Buenos Aires Architect: Luciano Kruk lucianokruk.com HOUSE IN THE TREES was designed to be built in Barrio Maritimo II, a neighbourhood in Costa Esmeralda, located thirteen kilometres north of the city of Pinamar and four hours away from Buenos Aires City. Parallel to the sea, this neighbourhood is separated from the coastline by a screen of leafy pines, producing a setback that complies with provincial regulations.

Surrounded by pinewood, the house merges into the landscape’s natural atmosphere, gaining privacy and the possibility of increasing its glazed surfaces. Made entirely out of exposed concrete, glass, and framed in dark bronze, the HOUSE IN THE TREES merges with the woods to enjoy its scents, textures and visuals, proper of its leafy environment, so powerful but at the same time balsamic for the senses.

Cape Cod, Massachusetts Architect: Studio Vural & Selim Vural studiovural.com To create the next generation of hyper-sustainable houses, Studio Vural went back about 500 million years. The Brooklyn-based architecture firm found inspiration in the squid’s rainbow flash abilities to imagine a completely self-powered dwelling.

Entirely un-logged, the DUNE HOUSE operates through an autonomous network, powered by solar panels and miniature wind turbines that produce more energy than the home consumes. To aid in its efficiency, the structure is buried in the beach of Cape Cod.

Using the sand and native shrubs as its facade, the concrete volume is insulated, allowing for the regulation of its climate with the geothermal temperatures of the landscape.

Internally, the renderings visualize minimalist living spaces set behind double-height walls of glazing, welcoming in natural light and views of the coast.

Sant Mateu, Ibiza Architect: Marià Castelló m-ar.net CA L’AMO has been organized in five differentiated volumes. Between them are spaces of relation, services and visual connection with the outside and ventilation.

The first three volumes of the houses are enough space for a large family. The fourth volume is intended for a large area of outer shade, while the fifth house is an annex with independent access for guests. Between the fourth and fifth volumes are the pool, the main leisure and relationship area.

All the facades are ventilated and breathable, with two differentiated solutions manifesting their finish: the transverse, opaque in contact with the dry stone walls that makes Earth containment. This has been finished by means of slats of thermo-treated wood, while the longitudinal ones where the openings and patios are concentrated have been executed with synthetic mineral-based panels of large format.

Much of the furniture has been custom designed specifically for this project. Other pieces that are also found are the Xamena sofa by Jose Gandia Blasco and Ramón Esteve for Gandía Blasco or pieces from the D12 Collection designed by Marià Castelló and Lorena Ruzafa for the editor Diabla Outdoor.

Sunshine Beach, Australia Interior Design and Building Design: Gavin Maddock Design Studio gavinmaddock.com The stylishly designed house rises out of the sand dune, overlooking the ocean at Sunshine Beach on the east coast of Australia, approximately 120km north of Brisbane. It’s a modern building with warm finishing, beautifully detailed, crafted bespoke cabinetry, and sensational spans taking in the fabulous views of the ocean and the headland of the Northeast.

Circulation between the three levels is a rather dramatic experience and occurs around the double volume entrance lobby, generating a three-storey void between the entry platform and the adjacent off-shutter concrete wall. One accesses the building in a downward movement, via a series of stairs, leading one between two concrete walls spaced narrowly together at the front, widening as one proceeds to the entry.

The structure is terraced up the dune over three levels, accommodating three guest suites on the lower level and the master suite on the upper level. The central level occupies the main living area of the dwelling, with direct access to two terraces and the cantilevered swimming pool.

Rooms are arranged around a central courtyard, while original arches around the perimeter frame in views of the adjacent mountains. Above on the hilltop, a natural basin is converted into a swimming pool, with sweeping panoramas of the rustic landscape.

HAWTHORN HOUSE Hawthorn, Australia Architect: Edition Office edition-office.com The plan for HAWTHORN HOUSE was to first recalibrate the entire project site into a large and singular terrace; one grand outdoor theatre for living which peels upwards at each title boundary to form a living garden backdrop that would appear at every viewpoint from the living areas of the home.

At the ground floor within the living, cooking and dining spaces the concrete shells provide clear connectivity with the entire landscape and a sense of unexpected lightness, while carefully concealing the neighbouring context.

The arched concrete shrouds evolved as a method of structurally supporting the house with its own skin; designed to be understood as protective cloak rather than as signifiers of support. These shrouds provide the framework for how the spaces within the home relate to each other and to the external environment.

Howell Mountain, California, USA Architect: Field Architecture fieldarchitecture.com On a dramatic mountain site high above the Napa Valley, the project was approached with a reverence for this particular protected land and a strong prioritization of its multiple sensory experiences.

Gabled buildings wrapped in aged wood form this vineyard home, which Field Architecture designed to make the most of its setting above Napa Valley. Sentinel Ridge is located on Howell Mountain, which rises above the famed California wine valley. The residence was designed for a couple wanting a serene refuge from their home in the American Midwest suburbs.

Concept Architect: Marchi Architects anmarchi.com Marchi Architects nestles its proposed WOODHOUSE 2.0 amongst the dense pin oak forests of Long Island, New York. The figural residential project is integrated elegantly into the gently sloping topography, shielded from the natural elements by the surrounding trees.

The interior offers a comfortable and welcoming space with the careful selection of warm, timber materials and rhythmic textures. WOODHOUSE 2.0 is designed with a radial organization comprising of an open-plan interior with spaces that blend together and encourage a continuous, uninterrupted circulation.

Only about 250 Broadcasters would be made before a trademark infringement caused a short run of “Nocasters,� before Fender finally settled on Telecaster for the guitar, and the rest is history. Celebrating 70 years of making the guitar the most popular instrument on the planet, the 70th Anniversary Broadcaster recreates the original down to the smallest detail.

Located minutes from downtown Healdsburg, in the heart of Russian River Valley, and originally built as a winery in the mid-70s, the facilities on this 15.5 acre estate had deteriorated and become outdated. Long known for its rustic charm and authentic connection to nature, the site held promise.

By coincidence, Flowers Vineyard & Winery was looking for a venue to showcase their sustainably produced wines within a setting that expressed their nature-based ethos. Opportunity met serendipity to become a perfect union of context and intent, and a home for Flowers’ hospitality house.

Austrian Alps Architect: Wunschhaus AT - wunschhaus.at DIgital Aritst: TABARQ - tabarq3d.com High in the Austrian Alps, architect Wunschhaus AT and digital artist TABARQ imagine the DESIRE HOUSE. Perched on a hilltop, its interior uncoils to an open living space with sweeping vistas of the mountains and the valley below.

The modern dwelling takes queues from Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim Bilbao Museum with a curved exterior and near-seamless integration into the existing landscape. An adjacent terrace shares the same impressive views and features a jacuzzi, infinity pool, and sun deck. While the photorealistic renderings look like a completed dwelling, unfortunately, the project is merely a dream for now.
