Hit N' Write Harlet Was Never Meant to Fit the Box We meet again. How long has it been? Probably three months already. Harlet isn't about to pretend we have a corporate setting, a huge company, rigorous quality control, and everything people usually associate with publishing. We were never big, and we never claimed to be. This newspaper was written on a whim. Nothing about it is grand. People often assume that the humanization of Harlet, the constant use of "I," "we," and "you," is unprofessional. They're right. It is. That's probably not what you'd expect from a publisher. We know our standards don't fit everyone's definition of professionalism. But have you ever considered the idea of familiarity? Some people will call it foolishness on our part, but perhaps it makes it feel as though we're speaking directly to you. Perhaps it doesn't. Either way, we don't mind. Many people have rejected Harlet, and that's fine. We were never meant to fit neatly into a box. Even our origin began with rejection. We're not rebels. We follow rules, just not the ones that require us to become something we're not. We don't make this to advertise. We make it because we want to, and because deadlines are approaching. Even the way we write reflects that. It reads like a person thinking aloud, putting thoughts onto paper as they arrive. We're not commercialized, and we don't particularly want to be. We're aware of the scrutiny, the judgment, and the industry standards. We know what publishing is supposed to look like. Harlet simply chose another way.
