Ramizan, was inspired by a traditional Malaysian design – a motif that reflects the Malay culture. LICC anticipates more events from international and local companies. Tengku Ramizan and his team have also been actively promoting the convention centre by holding dialogue sessions with relevant groups such as events marketing companies, hoteliers, travel agents, taxi association and aviation companies, among others. “We are also closely working with the Langkawi Tourism Department and the Langkawi Development Authority

(LADA), and going on road shows to promote the convention centre and the island as well.” The government, working closely with LADA, has drawn up plans to further develop the mystical island with its fabled history and natural wonders not only as a world class tourist destination but also as a preferred destination for Meetings, Incentives, Conventions and Exhibitions (MICE). In this respect, LICC provides an ideal platform for hospitality services for events on the island. Events with overseas and local participants are also well supported with accommodation options close by. “We are a few steps away from The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa (which manages the convention centre) and the six-star St Regis Langkawi which is also located in the same vicinity. Both offer stunning seaside venues for hosting private cocktail parties and dinner themed parties under the stars,” adds Tengku Ramizan. Apart from meetings rooms and convention halls, LICC also has its own fully-equipped kitchen and four professional chefs who are responsible for creating and selecting dishes which

can range from comfort foods to exotic and tantalising cuisines. “We also cater to guests who have specific food needs. Healthy food – nuts and fresh greens are always included in normal dinners.” For large scale events, the LICC can count on getting extra manpower under a programme by the Starwood Hotels & Resorts Group, one of the world’s largest hotel companies that owns, operates, franchises and manages hotels, resorts, spas and residences. The Westin Langkawi Resort & Spa and St Regis Langkawi are part of the Starwood Group. “Whenever there is a need for extra staff, especially during large scale events or functions, we can get the extra staff from the other hotels that are a part this programme. In that sense, we don’t have staffing problems when it comes to hosting international scale events,” states Tengku Ramizan. LICC takes pride in being an ecofriendly venue – its design has energy and water efficient features. “We are conscious of the need to take care of the environment and that is why we do not encourage the use of plastic bags or styrofoam products.”
