The Early Learning Center at Harford Community College provides a nurturing environment and academic curriculum that ensures your child is well prepared for kindergarten. Our goal is to encourage children to develop emotionally and intellectually while gaining a positive self-image. The balanced curriculum incorporates the latest technology, where appropriate, to provide instruction in music, art, crafts, storytime, drama, science, math, and language arts.

How to Register Online: To register online visit www.harford.edu/resource/solar and click on the SOLAR link found at the bottom of the page for complete instructions on how to register and make payment. If you are a new HCC student, you must click on the “Continuing Education Noncredit online application” link in order to complete the online application process before registering. For questions about the online application process, registration, and/or payment, call 443-412-2376. In Person: Students may register in person Monday through Thursday, 7:30 AM to 7:00 PM, and Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM in Edgewood Hall. Payment by check, money order or credit card (Discover, MasterCard, American Express or VISA) is required at the time of registration. Cash cannot be accepted. For your convenience, a registration form can be found in the back of this booklet. Mail In: Complete a registration form (found in the back of this booklet) and mail with full payment of tuition and fees. Payment may be made by check, money order, or credit card (call 443-412-2376 to provide credit card payment information). Please include your Student ID number on the check or money order. No confirmation is sent. Attend the first session unless the College notifies you that the course has been canceled. Fax: Complete a registration form (in the back) and fax to 443-412-2383. The College reserves the right to cancel any class when there is insufficient enrollment. If we must cancel a class, you will be notified by mail, telephone, or at the first class meeting.
Refunds and Withdrawals
Services for Individuals With Disabilities
If the College cancels a class, 100% of the tuition and fees will be refunded by mail. Allow six weeks from the date of cancellation to receive the refund.
Individuals with disabilities who request academic accommodations for noncredit courses must register with Disability Support Services and must provide a copy of current documentation of the disability.
To withdraw from a noncredit class, call or stop by the Continuing Education and Training Office in Edgewood Hall to complete a withdrawal form. The withdrawal becomes effective the day you contact the office. Book returns must be accompanied by a copy of the withdrawal form.
A minimum of two weeks’ notice may be needed to provide some accommodations. Appointments can be made and questions answered by calling Disability Support Services at 443-412-2402.
If you withdraw before the first class meeting, the College will refund 100% of the tuition and fees. If you withdraw before the second class meeting, the College will refund 50% of the tuition but no course fees. There will be no refunds after the second class meeting, and no official withdrawal is necessary.
Visitors Policy
All persons attending classes must be officially registered for those classes. Any visitors (including children) other than those with bona fide academic, educational, and/or approved business with the College, are not to be in offices, labs, classrooms, break rooms, work areas, or hallways. Children (ages 12 and under) are not to be left unattended at any time, under any circumstances.
Schedule of Classes
Despite our best efforts, occasionally an error may occur in a course description, tuition, course fee, or other entry in the Schedule of Classes. In the event of a printing error, the College reserves the right to apply the correct information.
In enrolling in Harford Community College, students accept and agree to abide by the policies and regulations of HCC including those in the Student Code of Conduct, the Drug and Alcohol Policy, and the Computer Use Policy. Students should understand that violation of these regulations would subject them to the penalties and sanctions contained in these policies, which are available in the Office of College Life. Learn organized study skills. Topics include time management, note taking, memory retention, test taking, and outlining. Find out how to work and study smarter. Text required; available at the College Store.

Get Ahead of the Curve - Geometry
For students enrolled in Geometry in the fall. Review arithmetic and elementary algebra in preparation for Geometry. Topics include mathematics fundamentals and an introduction to angles, triangles, plane figures, and solid figures. Parents are welcome to stay. Some assignments may need to be completed at home. Enjoy a variety of visual arts activities and meet new artist friends from throughout the county. Drawing, painting, and other art mediums will be explored. App Attack! Make Your First Game App
Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized game development tool, students will explore the world of phone-based and tablet-based applications. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of apps publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Parents may choose to publish apps if certain criteria are met and final decisions are the sole discretion of Apple or Google. No prior experience is necessary and students do not need to own a smartphone or tablet to take the class.
Teen Boat Building
Assemble your very own double-paddle canoe in one week. Glue, nail, and paint precut parts of your canoe. A small boat water safety class will be conducted during the week. A boat launch graduation and river paddle is scheduled on Saturday. Bring a bag lunch and your own hammer. Supply fee includes all materials needed for a completed canoe. Enrollment is limited. Discovering Preschool

Futsal Camp
This camp is designed for children, ages 8-14, with little or no previous golf experience. This week-long instructional clinic helps participants develop the basics of the golf swing and introduces them to the rules, etiquette, and history of the game.
The main focus of this camp will be on 1v1 moves and attacking play to encourage players to be comfortable playing in tight spaces. Small-sided games and scrimmages will work on increasing speed-of-play and improving decision-making processes. Camp attendees should expect improvement through speed and agility training along with technical skills training in dribbling, passing and shooting.
Tennis Camp for Boys and Girls
Emphasis will be placed on learning and using all strokes: forehand, backhand, ground stroke, volleying, and overhead serves. Last day will stress match play and games. Advanced Robotics-Jungle Robot
The Ultimate Experience: Build and take home the Jungle Robot, an advanced-level robot. Also, put your imagination and skills to the test and work in small groups to build different robotic creatures. Test them for speed, strength and endurance. The robots built in this section are not taken home, but parts are reused to build yet another robotic creation. Test your creations in Sumo battles, tugs of war and vehicle distance timings.
Emphasis will be on speed, agility, and conditioning of the high school soccer athlete. Bubbly Engineering Adventures
THIS OFFERING IS MADE POSSIBLE BY THE GENEROUS SUPPORT OF SCIENCE APPLICATIONS INTERNATIONAL CORPORATION (SAIC). This exciting summer camp will engage elementary children in the engineering design process. The Engineering Adventures (EA) curriculum was designed by the Engineering is Elementary (EiE) team within the Museum of Science, Boston. Children entering 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades will learn the EA unit, “Bubble Bonanza: Designing Bubble Makers,” which explore how bubbles behave and investigate properties of materials they can use to create bubble makers. Camp participants in this session will not only engage in the EA unit, ultimately creating a solution to the design challenge that they can take home, but will also take home two related trade books to extend their science/engineering learning at home. Students will also get the opportunity to meet real engineers working in the field and gain a better understanding of what it is to be an engineer.

The instruments that are involved are saxophone, trumpet, trombone, guitar, piano, bass, drums, and vocals. BIG HAIR is coming to HCC! Come and be a part of an original show composed, performed and staged by the students based on the Broadway hit, Hair Spray! Students will create their own characters and sing great 60’s and musical theatre melodies while working to create their own version of the show from scratch. Gain hands-on experience in the art of singing, speaking, character building, stage makeup, and costuming with a final performance tying all aspects together at the end of the week. Don’t miss out on this “hair-raising” week of music-theatre! Our teacher, Jennifer Haney, received her MA in Music History from Webster University in St. Louis. Jennifer was a Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholar to England where she studied music. After singing with the International Opera Festival di Roma and other companies in Europe, Jennifer returned to the U.S. where she has been honored as the recipient of a 2013 Peabody Energy “Leader in Education” award.

Kids On Campus is a two-week program held on the Harford Community College campus. Classes focus on art, academics, and athletics for students who are entering grades 1-3. Each session meets Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with drop-off and pick-up at Edgewood Hall. Lunch and most supplies are included.

Signs and Symptoms of a Concussion
A concussion is a type of brain injury that changes the way the brain normally works. Even what seems to be a mild bump to the head can be serious. Signs and symptoms of a concussion can show up right after an injury or may not appear or be noticed until hours or days after the injury.
