welcome Welcome to the 2011-12 performing arts season at Harford Community College. Each year, we host a variety of cultural opportunities from national touring acts to local resident companies, jazz to classical to folk, opera to ballet to musical comedy. From month to month and year to year, you never know who will be gracing our stages – but you can be sure they will create an unforgettable experience. Check the various listings in the Fine Arts Calendar to select all of your favorites, but remember many shows sell out fast. Avoid disappointment by ordering your tickets early. Our staff and volunteers want you to have the best possible experience before, during and after the show. We hope you will share your suggestions about ways we may improve your experience at HCC to make it even more memorable. Please contact me at the Ticket Office at 443-412-2211 or email me at snicolaides@harford.edu. Thank you for supporting the arts in Harford County!

SALON AT THE HAYS-HEIGHE HOUSE

harvest and halloween open house

The Herb Block Foundation presents four panel exhibitions displaying the work of legendary Washington Post editorial cartoonist Herb Block, famously known as “Herblock.” The goal of these exhibitions is to promote Herblock’s efforts to defend the rights and freedoms of Americans through his political cartoons. Prepared by Library of Congress Curator Harry L. Katz, this exhibit can be used for teaching or promoting the American topics that reflect Herblock’s passions—Education, Democracy, Civil Rights, and the Presidency. This exhibit presents a fascinating history of Herblock’s 72-year career.

Join Colleen Webster, Humanities Professor of English, as she discusses the historical and cultural significance of salon discussion parties. The first in our salon series will feature information on what a salon is as well as the famous historical and literary people associated with these events. Visitors will also have the opportunity to view the Herblock traveling exhibit. This event is free and open to the public.

View the Herblock traveling exhibit during the extended open hours. By day, learn about the food and history of the fall harvest in our area. Then, after dark, prepare yourself for “things that go bump in the night” as we explore fall folklore and tell legendary tales of the past!
