Major: Acting, with an entrepreneurial management minor Why Harding? I wanted this to be a time when I would be challenged but not pushed beyond my boundaries. Harding’s department of theatre seemed like it had the best balance of good quality theatre while telling stories that actually matter and are honorable to God, including him in our personal lives. I attended Honors Symposium, and that amazing experience really sealed the deal for me. Theatre and Business: I’ve always felt like I had to prove my intelligence, and being an acting major in the College of Business Administration, I felt a lot of pressure from myself to prove I have something to offer. But the professors were wonderful and intentionally vocalized that they saw my ability to manage people and think critically, and that grew my confidence so much. It can be easy to feel that I’m only good at one thing and that’s where I should stay because that’s what people expect of me. Dr. Jon Wood definitely challenged and pushed me, and the fact that he believed in me meant the world to me. What’s next for you? As much as I feel alive when I’m acting or directing, I feel just as alive when I’m talking about business and how we can make something people are going to want to buy and what actually matters to the customers. So I’m going to be starting a coffee shop with my older brother in Longview, Texas. I’m excited to do something new!

Ryan Walters serves as Oklahoma Secretary of Education and Executive Director of Every Kid Counts Oklahoma, an organization launched in 2020 to empower teachers, parents and community leaders to improve the education system. He has always been passionate about history. “I love the stories and the people,” he said. “The better I understand human nature, the better I understand life and how to make decisions, the better I understand God because we are all made in his image.” At Harding, he was nurtured by faculty mentors in the department of history and political science as well as in the College of AfterEducation.graduation, he taught high school history for eight years at McAlester High School in his hometown. In 2016 he was selected as an Oklahoma Teacher of the Year Finalist. A champion of education, he seeks to provide resources and support for students as they develop their unique, God-given talents to improve the lives of those around them.

Additionally, Halle’s participation in the Honors College helps her connect psychology to other courses, expanding her knowledge in topics that interest her. Advice from professors, a psychiatric internship and various leadership roles have prepared her well to pursue graduate programs.
As a leader in the Black Student Association, Halle has helped provide a home for students of color. “It is important to have a place for students who may not always feel like they belong and to add another perspective to the conversations happening on campus. Our Alumni ASHLEY FINCHER (’16)
Having spent most of my childhood in Alaska and the Pacific Northwest, I thought that I would begin my nursing career there. However, an encounter with Mayo Clinic representatives changed the course of my life, which I believe was a blessing from God. I have been able to make connections with other Harding alumni while working here, and our game nights are a great way to decompress after a group of hard shifts. I truly believe this is the place I was meant to begin my nursing career.
I am a registered nurse in the cardiovascular surgical progressive care unit, providing care to young children and adults, and I am certified to care for patients with Left Ventricular Assist Devices. I also am involved in the education of new nurses, serving as preceptor, teaching a pediatric class and helping with yearly staff competencies. Harding’s nursing program emphasizes how to think critically and provide the best care for our patients and how to see the patient as a whole person and not just a disease or illness. The hands-on instruction we received proved to be an invaluable foundation for my initial training at Mayo Clinic. I will be forever grateful for how well Harding’s nursing program prepared me both academically and spiritually to successfully launch my career.

Interdisciplinary studies is a major for students who are looking for a specific course of study for which Harding has the ingredients but not the exact degree plan. We consider your goals, the profession you’re interested in and graduate programs you may be working toward and connect you to faculty mentors across campus.

Out of that process, we choose courses offered in various departments to form a unique, purposedriven plan just for you.
For example, Morgan Proffitt-Davis, former Student Association president, is now studying at Princeton Theological Seminary. She wanted a degree in theology, so we chose Bible classes in ethics and philosophy, paired with English and history classes, to make the perfect degree plan for her to get into that graduate program. Students are entering a dynamic, ever-changing job force. By the time our freshmen are seniors, entirely new jobs or fields may exist, and some may even create their own jobs. I encourage students to think about being prepared with a certain skill set, ready to apply their unique talents, interests, strengths and values to a variety of contexts in which they might flourish and thrive. If you can communicate, collaborate, and think creatively and critically, you will be successful in many different environments. Harding will help you get there.
We focus on a career building process that emphasizes career and major exploration. We utilize assessments such as TypeFocus, StrengthsFinder, and PathwayU to help students identify their strengths, values and meaning within the workplace.
Supplemental Instruction targets difficult freshman and sophomore level courses through weekly study sessions led by students who have successfully completed the course. This is a chance to get together with people in your class to compare notes, discuss important concepts and develop strategies for studying the subject.

Our mission is to enable our students and alumni to successfully identify and pursue their career goals. We offer guidance and resources to help discover career potential and how it relates to educational plans and accomplishments. The Academic Resource Center supports students academically, personally and emotionally. I have seen students grow in all areas of their college life when they have people and tools to help them.
Academic Coaching provides personalized, one-on-one sessions to help you improve your practices in a variety of academic areas, including time management, test anxiety and note taking. You can explore your learning style and discover study skills that work best for you. Clubs and Organizations Our vibrant, active community is ready to welcome you in more than 150 clubs and organizations, including 28 social clubs. Social clubs — our version of fraternities and sororities — date back to Harding’s start in 1924 and provide a great opportunity to have fun, make lifelong friends and serve others. Community Activities Searcy’s vibrant downtown is a great place for students to explore local restaurants and businesses. Catch a movie at the historic Rialto Theatre; stroll through Art Alley; practice yoga at Nooma studios; take classes in woodworking or arts & crafts; or attend a Beats & Eats event on the square. You can get involved with local churches and nonprofit organizations to make a difference right here in our town. Major: Accounting Why did you decide to join a social club? I decided to join a club freshman year to meet people I may not have had the chance to interact with — people with different interests and points of view. I also wanted to find a community that enjoyed similar activities, like fishing and camping. More importantly, I wanted a group that would encourage me to grow spiritually. What are your favorite social club activities? Sports are a good way to see friends and stay active. From water polo to basketball, there’s always something to do. Biweekly meetings and devotionals are also great to stay in touch with how the members of the club are truly doing. How does being in a club help create relationships? Beta Omega Chi is a medium-sized club, and one of the things we do best is making intentional relationships. I always feel comfortable enough with any member that I could start a genuine conversation or share concerns. Sponsors have been not only great role models but true friends I can joke with and enjoy their wisdom. Through club week and Spring Sing I was able to meet many members from other clubs and make friendships that will last beyond my senior year. These relationships may be what I cherish most.

A Global Perspective Harding University’s International Programs offer unique opportunities for study and worldwide travel. Six semester-long study abroad locations include Florence, Italy; London, England; Australasia; Athens, Greece; Arequipa, Peru; and Namwianga Mission, Zambia.

This program allows students interested in mission work to experience sharing Christ in a different culture by spending two to six weeks teaching English, conducting vacation Bible schools, working with and encouraging churches in the area, painting murals and more. Global Outreach facilitates these trips with hope that God will spark students’ hearts with a desire to become missionaries or missionary supporters in the future.

Our world-class Ganus Activities Complex includes an indoor swimming pool, racquetball courts, a two-level weight and equipment space, a group exercise room, an indoor walking track and more. Outdoor facilities include a track, jogging trail, tennis courts, basketball courts, volleyball nets, disc golf and a free-play field.
NCAA Athletics Harding offers 18 NCAA Division II sports for men and women, with more than 400 student-athletes competing at the collegiate level. Men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross-country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, and both indoor and outdoor track & field. Women’s sports include basketball, cross-country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, both indoor and outdoor track & field, and volleyball.
You don’t have to be a star athlete to play a good game. Team up with friends — old and new — and join the competition with our intramural or club athletic teams to play flag football, basketball, volleyball, soccer and more. Additionally, travel club sports give you the opportunity to compete against teams from other institutions in disc golf, esports, fishing, flag football, pickleball, soccer, swimming, ultimate frisbee and volleyball.
College is a team sport. Athletics at Harding embraces three ideas: healthy competition, teamwork and overall wellness. Whether you play on an NCAA team, participate in intramurals or work out regularly, you will find opportunities to excel athletically. Making key connections early in your academic career is critical to a successful transition to college. Retreats, tailgates, the organization fair and so much more will help you meet your classmates and find the place where you fit in the Harding community.
The second tier of the orientation process for incoming freshman and transfer students is scheduled for the weekend leading up to the first day of classes in the fall semester. This program is jam-packed with fun activities and entertainment. Approximately 200 upperclassmen will be there to answer all of your questions, help you get oriented to Harding University and make sure you have a great time!
