DEAR HARDING ACADEMY COMMUNITY, Over the past few months, I have immersed myself in the life of Harding Academy. I have found curious, joyful children engaged in a breadth of academic, artistic, exploratory, and athletic endeavors. I have developed a profound appreciation for an inspired faculty and staff committed to the well-being, learning, and personal development of every child. The support provided by parents cultivates and sustains a sense of community that makes everyone feel connected and part of something child-centered and meaningful. Harding is stewarded by a Board that in addition to their expertise and foresight, brings a passion and commitment to the long-term sustainability of the school. While seemingly a young school, Harding feels and functions with a maturity that transcends its history. That is fueled by long-standing connections to the school from past parents, some of whom are now grandparents, and by alumni who formed relationships in childhood that have lasted into adulthood. Their interest in and connection to the school expresses the countless ways Harding shaped who they are today.

These relationships, expressed through the continued interest in and financial support of Harding are what enables the school to provide the breadth and quality of experience for the students today. This philanthropy is transformative for our current students and ensures the students of the future will continue to benefit from a Harding experience. The 2022-2023 Impact Report expresses the phenomenal generosity consistently shown by the Harding community. HARDING FUND RECOGNITION Harding Academy community members who donate $1,500 or more to the Harding Fund are invited to the fall Leadership Celebration event on Harding’s campus. This fun and festive event celebrates the culture of philanthropy at Harding and allows guests to mix and mingle while enjoying incredible food and lovely entertainment. Donors of more than $5,000 are invited to the Head of School Donor Dinner, which includes an update from the Head of School on the state of the school. This intimate evening provides a wonderful way to get together and celebrate Harding Academy and its successes.

Since its inception in 1975, The Harding Art Show has grown to become one of the largest and most profitable exhibitions of fine art in the Southeastern United States. Co-Chairs, Hayley Gerber and Whitney Morris, along with their team of volunteers, created an event showcasing over 90 talented artists from around the country whose works were representative of a variety of styles across multiple medium. Selling over $1 million in art over the 3-day event for the second year in a row, this event was intended to build community, share impeccable and curated art selections, and support Harding Academy and arts education in Nashville. Mission accomplished! We are thankful for our volunteers and patrons alike for their commitment to Harding and the art community in Nashville. A special thank you to 2023 Featured Artist, Kate Roebuck, for bringing her multimedia art to campus!

ROBERTS GYMNASIUM RENOVATION

In early 2023, several donors approached the school with the hope of renovating Roberts Gymnasium. Thanks to their contribution, our gymnasium has been transformed into a vibrant and safe space for our students and the entire community to enjoy. NAMED ENDOWMENT FUNDS AND AWARDS Harding Academy is thankful to the many generous donors who have set up named endowment or scholarship funds. Active funds as of July 2023 include: The Harold Black Family Scholarship Fund The Harold Black Family Scholarship Fund was established in 2005. This endowed scholarship is based on financial need. The Margaret Brownlee Scholarship Fund The Margaret Brownlee Scholarship Fund was established in 1987 in honor of Miss Margaret Brownlee, a beloved Harding teacher who passed away in 1986. This endowed scholarship fund honors Miss Brownlee and her devotion to her students during her tenure at Harding Academy. The scholarship, based on financial need, is directed toward students in the upper elementary grades.

Faculty Enrichment Endowment Fund Harding Academy encourages the enrichment of faculty and staff through continuing education and other activities. This fund was created to provide faculty with summer enrichment opportunities and the ability to pursue an interest or activity that results in personal growth, including travel, special programs or projects, and professional development. The Harding Academy General Endowment Fund The Harding Academy General Endowment Fund was established to support the longterm financial stability of the school. A portion of net annual earnings may be used when needed for operations.

Dr. and Mrs. Thomas B. Caldwell, III and his wife Dr. Adeliza Caldwell, parents of Harding alumni, established The Caldwell Scholarship Fund for Minority Students in 1983.

The Manning Family Fund was generously established in 2013 by David and Lisa Manning and their daughters, Emily ‘04 and Meredith ‘08. The Manning Family Fund for Lower School Educator

Professional Advancement was established to support professional development of Harding Lower School educators. The Manning Fund has been given in honor of former Head of School, Ian Craig (2006— 2016), for his significant contributions to the Harding community. The Sarah Frances Mudter Fine Arts Endowment Established in April 2004 and made possible through a bequest by Sarah Frances Mudter, this endowment provides support for the fine arts. The Don Schwartz Distinguished Educator Program Harding Academy’s tradition of excellence includes leadership by the late Donald S. Schwartz, who served as head of school from 1997 - 2006. His tremendous contributions to the school included bringing guest educators to campus to inspire the Harding community’s continuous learning about new and 18

In his memory, the Harding Academy Board of Trustees and Parents Auxiliary established The Don Schwartz Distinguished Educator Program in 2006. This endowment allows the school to bring distinguished educators to Harding to speak to the faculty/staff, board, students, and parents.

Recognizing that the strength of any great school lies largely in the members of the faculty and staff, The Ed and Hettie Stuart Endowment was established in December 2007 to endow a fund to recognize any members of the faculty or staff who have gone above and beyond in their service to the school.

In December of 2019, Chris, Catherine (Stuart 1994), Caroline (2024), and Cathleen (2028) Vrettos established the Vrettos Family Endowment to provide funds for assembly enrichment and programs utilizing speakers, performers, and/or special guests for the Harding Academy community to enjoy during the school day. Each assembly will be given in honor and in celebration of an exemplary member of the Harding Academy faculty and staff.

The Dr. Jerry S. Sutton Memorial Scholarship Fund

This fund was established in 1989 in honor of the late Dr. Jerry S. Sutton by his wife, Barbara. Each year it is awarded to a student that has been determined to be in need of financial aid.

This award is given at graduation to the eighth grade student who has displayed a desire and an exceptional ability to communicate through the spoken and written word. He/she has developed outstanding skills in expository and creative writing.

The 2022-2023 Impact Report includes the names of donors, as they have requested to be listed, and gifts which were received during the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2023 and ending June 30, 2022. The Advancement and Marketing Department has made every effort to ensure that the information on these pages is correct.
