Tick Awareness

TICK AWARENESS ON MARTHA'S VINEYARD: TRAVELER’S GUIDE At Harbor View Hotel, we take guest comfort seriously and maintain ongoing practices to reduce tick habitats around the hotel grounds. While it is not possible to eliminate ticks entirely in any outdoor environment, we remain committed to maintaining our landscaping and outdoor spaces with care.

WHAT STEPS HAVE WE TAKEN? Perimeter tick treatment and routine grounds maintenance for tick prevention. Tick repellent is available for guest use or purchase at the Front Desk. Tick education materials are available for guests who would like information on prevention and safety.

IF YOU DO GET A TICK BITE: Remove the tick promptly with finetipped tweezers, pulling straight up without twisting. Clean the bite area and your hands with rubbing alcohol, an iodine scrub, or soap and water. Monitor for any rash, fever, or flulike symptoms and contact a healthcare provider like the Martha's Vineyard Hospital if they develop. For more information, check out more information from Inter-Island Public Health Collaborative

THINGS TO KNOW BEFORE TRAVELING: Ticks are a nationwide issue, not just a Martha's Vineyard issue. Most visitor activities take place in lower-risk environments such as beaches, downtowns. restaurants, shops, bike paths, and harbors. Simple precautions like using insect repellent, wearing protective clothing when walking on trails, staying on maintained paths, and performing a quick tick check at the end of the day significantly reduce risk. Local medical professionals are experienced in addressing tickrelated concerns should they arise. Thousands of visitors continue to enjoy Martha's Vineyard safely each year while taking the same commonsense precautions recommended throughout the Northeast.
