It’s our responsibility as humans to help animals in need, no matter what they NEED. I’ve always been that pet parent that everyone saw as - if you don’t want it, just drop it off at Chessica‘s house...she’ll take care of it and find every dog a good home, no matter what challenges it’s facing. Over the years, I’ve been critter mom to everything from horses and baby birds to barn owls & lizards - and one very belligerent rooster, named Elvis. Very long story short, I became a veterinary technician so that I could learn to help the animals in my care without spending a fortune on vet bills because I had so many. My home is mainly holistic, non-GMO, no chemicals, and I pretty much always do my very best to treat the CAUSE along with the symptoms. 41

I’m always researching and looking for different ways to treat and/or prevent those everyday problems that go along with many animals, rescues, or those I didn’t raise from birth, and those that belong to friends on occasion, if I can!

I moved to Florida in 2014 and once again started being a rescue foster mom for mainly discarded animals, or those with problems that no one wanted to treat or who were already on the euthanasia list at a shelter. When I formally adopted Bosco, I already had five dogs and one cat in my home (all unwanted hospice fosters, with issues ranging from cancers to extreme degenerative bone disease, dwarfism, seizures, syncope, paralysis, etc., and given between three to nine months before they would cross the bridge and gain their wings.) Yes, I adopted them all! Bosco was the runtiest runt ever from a litter of nine puppies found on the street in Tampa Florida along with their mother. They were all struggling with parasites and various health issues. Admittedly, Bosco picked me so you can’t turn that away! And let me tell you that boy was a danger prone! He was a little fireball with the nickname Baby Shark. Man, did he love toes, and here in Florida, everyone wears flip-flops so NO TOE WAS SAFE!!! I carried him back and forth to work in a backpack. Ya wouldn’t believe that now since he weighs 80 pounds, and back then he was half the size of the rest of his littermates, growing so slowly we never thought he’d catch up.

I officially adopted Bosco when he was three months old. At around one year old, the little daredevil fractured the growth plate in his left knee during a couch-surfing expedition.

He was back to walking normally, running, and playing after about four months but we were told that he should probably be put on a joint supplement of some kind, and that he may be all but immobile going forward due to his previous injuries and challenging puppyhood. I dug in, did a lot of research, and found a supplement I thought was best, and all natural, with the right amounts of ingredients that we thought were best suited for joint care. Unfortunately, we tried several brands and they just didn’t deliver. Fast forward to age 3, he had grown very sedentary and I was concerned about his quality of life.
