/Description This project is to choose a film director and design a film festival by conceptualizing a visual system and coordinating a complex set of materials. Akira Kurosawa was a Japanese film director and screenwriter, who directed 30 films in a career spanning 57 years. He is regarded as one of the most important and influential filmmakers in the history of cinema. His films influnced many famous directors, for example, George Lucas and Quentin Tarrantino.

/Description This project is to choose a “dead� company and rebrand it.

Blockbuster Inc. was the largest video rental chain in the world providing in-home rental, retail movie, and game entertainment. Before, the main business of Blockbuster was DVD rental, which allows people watching films or TV series at home. They mainly focused on the in-home entertainment which can strengthen the family relationship. /Approach I designed a new visual system for Blockbuster. Different from their blue and yellow color comp, I use orange as one fo the main color to show the passion of bring entertainment to people. I kept their soul on providing convenient access to media entertainment. With the help of new technology, Blockbutster will provide the customers a new entertainment experience. Customers can relax themselves in anywhere and through any format.

/Objective This project is to choose a company I considered designing for, then redesign their annual report or CSR report. I did some researches about the famous graphic tablet company—Wacom.

After reading their poor designed existing reports, I redesigned the 2013 Wacom annual report to the shareholders and kept the company’s mission and Culture. /Approach I selected 2013 Wacom Annual Report to redesign because it has the most detailed statistics compared with other years.

Completely different with the existing report I used a neat and simple visual language to show that Wacom is not only a drawing tablet “factory”, but a technology company.

Susie Coliver, Principal, Herman Coliver Locus Architecture, is with a 14-person architectural practice in San Francisco, which, for over 30 years has focused almost exclusively on the design of supportive housing. Her practice is unusual in as much as all of its clients are non-profits. HCLA has collaborated with private non-profit housing developers on the design of dignified, sustainable housing for those with incomes of up to 60% AMI. Currently, the studio is working on the new construction of 96 apts for low income seniors in the Mission, a project which involved a lot of community outreach, 156 apartments for low-income and formerly homeless families on the former Candlestick Park site, 250 modular apartments for adults suffering

/Objective Malabar® is a typeface for extensive text. This oldstyle serif family currently includes six fonts for the Latin script. In this project, I need to design a type specimen for Malabar to showcase its design and use. /Approach In my research, I found that Malabar is a typeface with wedgeserif. It is designed to avoid the fine serifs breaking apart altogether. Malabar’s serifs were developed to avoid this problem. I use many big types in that specimen to show the design feature. The type specimen shows that Malabar’s sharp, direct serifs are a clear feature of its DNA.

Sturdy serifs help strengthen the line of text in small point sizes, as well as define the overall feeling of the face.

/Objective There is considerable scientific debate over whether organic foods provide a nutritional boost when compared with eating conventionally grown foods. But people buy organic food even the food is more expensive because they think the food is healthy and environmental friendly. /Approach I want to promote knowledge about advantages and disadvantages of organic food to correct misconception. I designed three deliverables to help people to manage their food budget in the way of purchasing both organic and conventionally grown food. In that way, people can still have the recommended daily intakes for vitamins & nutrients.

/Description When I walked down the street, I found a poor designed street sign. It was from a house painting company. I wish to help the company owner with what I learned from school. /Approach For the beginning I called the sign owner and asked information about his company. Then I design a logotype for him and developed a new visual system. From the inspiration of painting a wall, I put a black layer with some blank rectangle above the colorful photo. The brush gives new color to the wall, and the company gives new version to your house.

To give a new look of the simple sign on a pole. It is glad to help people solve real questions in school.

/Objective Since the very first artists painted cave walls with mineral pigments and clay, humans have been making art with the humblest of materials. This is an exhibition to show audience how the artists using the most ordinary and mundane matter to create artworks that often not only provide ravishing visual experiences, but also contain far-reaching ideas. /Approach To show the power of how the ordinary things in our life can be transferred to extraordinary artwork, I choose to show the pencil sculpture as the example. The book tells a story from how pencils are made to the pencil sculptures. A beautiful sculpture can be carved from the tip of a Pencil. I choose the “pencil� yellow as my mean color. To show the surprising artwork, I keep my design minimal and clean.

From car tires and duct tape to pencils and couscous, ordinary objects are both clay and canvas in the hands of the artists.

/Objective Urban agriculture is the practice of cultivating food in cities. This type of farming can help us solve future food shortages and reduce the dependency on industrial food system. And though most urban farms are not making money, they are improving communities. To promote /Approach Teach them to the basic knowledge first, I designed an exhibition to show people knowledge in easily-understood diagrams and photos. Then I design a package series to provide them manageable farming activities where ever they live.

The biggest reason to support urban agriculture is the number of people it touches, rather than the number of people it feeds.

/BACKGROUND Urban agriculture is the practice of cultivating food in cities. This type of farming can help us solve future food shortages and reduce the dependency on industrial food system. And though most urban farms are not making money, they are improving communities.

In 2009, Mayor Gavin Newsom announced an executive directive of urban agriculture to promote Healthy and Sustainable Food in San Francisco. (In 2013) Four years later, in accordance with California Government policy (Code 51040), the City and County of San Francisco has established a local Urban Agricultural Incentive Program, the Urban Agriculture Incentives Zone Act. But in recent years, Urban Agriculture has been developing slowly in San Francisco. In SPUR’s 2012 report, there were 139 public gardens & farms available. Now there are only 42 left. Even though the biggest one (Alemany Farm) is 3.5 Acres, most of the others are smaller than 0.5 acre, which is only available to the local neighborhood. The only commercial farm (little city farm) in SF was closed in 2016.

To promote urban agriculture in San Francisco, I choose to guide urban individuals step by step.

If growing food in cities become part of people’s daily life, urban agriculture will get more social approval.
