The People’s Shelter

This project is located in Albert Dock, Liverpool, and aims to provide immigrants and visitors with an approachable and multifunctional building which differs from the surrounding landmark architecture in scale. It includes an art gallery and short-term residences. The architecture employs an umbrella-shaped roof element as a shelter, evoking a sense of “protection.” By inserting square volumes into the existing structure, people can circulate within the building while constantly encountering the historical textures of the old architecture, leading their memories back to the past. Furthermore, the building separates immigrants and tourists into two separate systems along the circulation paths, ensuring that they do not affect each other.
