Chamber Gears Up for Exciting Summer Events The Hanover Chamber is pleased to announce a new community event, coming this summer! The Snack Town Brewfest, presented by Snyder’s of Hanover and Utz Quality Foods, is scheduled for June 24, 2017 at Good Field in Hanover.

Meshing Hanover’s rich snack food heritage with local craft beer and wine, brewfest attendees can expect pairings of tasty treats with their favorite beverage. More than 40 craft breweries and wineries are expected to fill the field, along with gourmet snack food creations, food trucks, music and entertainment.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on April 1 through Eventbrite. A special VIP tasting is scheduled from 12-1 p.m. ($35 ticket) with general admission from 1-5 p.m. ($30 ticket).

The Snack Town Brewfest is 21 and over; photo ID will be required for entry. Designated Driver tickets will also be available.

The fun doesn’t stop on June 24! Just a month (and a few days) later, the Chamber is back in action for the 34th Annual Hanover Dutch Festival on Sat., July 29!

Delicious foods, handmade crafts and great music – combined, these traditions have drawn thousands of people to downtown Hanover for over three decades for the Dutch Festival.

Always held the last Saturday in July, the Dutch Festival is a standing Hanover tradition in itself.

HAHRA Announces Officers for 2017

Ox Industries Donates $100,000 to TrueNorth Autism Center

The Human Resource Association (HAHRA) is proud to announce the Officers for 2017.

As Vice President of Manpower of York and Lancaster Counties, (President) Julia Groft drives her teams to help both organizations and job seekers succeed. She began her career in Staffing in 2005 as a recruiter. In 2011 Groft accepted a leadership role with Manpower, where she found her niche in an organization which shares her valuesPeople, Knowledge, and Innovation.

She loves to build teams who share her enthusiasm for being an instrumental part in candidates’ career journeys and helping clients reach their hiring goals.

Kim Kerrigan (Vice President) joined HAHRA in 2001 and has held many roles over the years. Kerrigan is an advocate for continuing education and is a volunteer instructor for the Hanover Area Management Association and has served as their Education Chairperson. Kerrigan has held HR Management positions for over fifteen years and is currently the Vice President, Human Resources Manufacturing at Sheridan.

Sara Knaub, PHR, SHRM-CP (Treasurer) began her career at Utz Quality Foods Nov. 2008 in the role of HR Generalist where her focus was recruiting and staffing. Knaub began taking on additional responsibilities and was promoted to the HR Business Partner for the Sales Operations team. In her most recent role, Knaub was promoted

Jenn Kremenik (Secretary) joined HAHRA in 2005 and began her career at York International. Shortly after that they were acquired and she left to join Manpower where she worked as a Staffing Specialist for 5 years. She left there to go to Flowserve Corporation as a Senior HR Representative where she has worked for the last 5 years. In 2010, Kremenik obtained her Professional in Human Resources certification. She has been an active member of HAHRA over the years. She is currently Co-Chair of the Membership Committee.

OX Industries has donated $100,000 to TrueNorth Wellness Services’ new Autism Center, which will be located at 1181 Westminster Ave., Hanover, PA and will serve as the home for its relocated and expanded Hanover-based autism services.

“We are committed to the Hanover community and are thrilled to play a vital part of TrueNorth Wellness Services’ Capital Campaign to construct a new center for children and families living with autism,” said Kevin Hayward, President/CEO, Ox Industries.

“Providing TrueNorth Wellness Services with the ability to design and control the environment from the ground up will allow for new, more advanced therapeutic practices,” said Garrett Trout, CEO, TrueNorth Wellness Services. “In doubling our capacity, we’ll also be able to best meet the growing need for autism services in York and Adams counties and the increased demand for our program services.”

The 2016 Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) Expo brought together leaders of the specialty imaging industry this year in Las Vegas. In addition to a successful showcase, Quinn Flags, Hanover, PA, was recognized in the Association’s prestigious Golden Image Competition with an Honorable Mention for Flags.

“I am very proud of the Quinn Flags team,” said Ryan Halvorsen, Chief Operations Officer. “Our work was compared to the best in the world, and we came out on top. That’s quite an accomplishment!”

More than 70 companies from around the world entered the competition, submitting nearly 400 entries in 53 product categories.

Conducted during the 2016 SGIA Expo this year’s event was one of the most challenging in recent history.

Burger King celebrated the opening of their new South Hanover location with a ribbon cutting and grand opening on Weds., Jan. 11.

“Winning the Honorable Mention for Flags puts Quinn Flags among the top specialty printers in the world in terms of quality and capability. The ability to consistently print such high-quality products indicates that Quinn Flags is an expert at controlling the many variables involved in specialty printing,” said Johnny Shell, SGIA’s Vice President of Technical Services.

Amazing Kids Club Expands to Meet the Autism Needs of Community Did you know that there has been a 181% increase statewide of individuals diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, with Adams County experiencing a 236% increase and York County experiencing a 150% (PA Bureau of Autism Services)?

These numbers are clearly outstanding for our community!

The Bureau also reports that the cost of lifelong care can be reduced by 2/3 with early diagnosis and intervention programs… exactly what TrueNorth Wellness Services’ Amazing Kids Club provides.

The Amazing Kids Club is a year-round, on-site therapeutic program for children and adolescents from 2 – 21 years of age with Autism Spectrum Disorder or Social Pragmatic Communication Disorder.

The program focuses on developing communication, socialization and play skills in a less intense environment that oneon-one strategies and is designed as either a stand-alone program or a supplement to other forms of treatment.

In order to meet the growing needs of autism services in our community, TrueNorth Wellness Services has embarked on a Capital Campaign to build a new center at 1181 Westminster Ave., Hanover. If you

have any experience with this disorder, you are already aware that specially-designed environments can result in significant behavioral improvements, help reduce sensory stimuli and minimize unnecessary stress. Ample space, modified lighting, and intentionally planned rooms allow the children and adolescents the opportunity to focus better, learn new skills more effectively, and achieve better treatment outcomes. Providing TrueNorth Wellness Services with the ability to design and control the environment from the ‘ground up’ will allow for new, more advanced therapeutic practices and exposure to settings similar to those in real life (ground level environment with windows, large open spaces, outdoors), as well as: - Double the current capacity to 24,000-square-feet - Provide safe and easy pick-up and drop-off (current area is an alleyway in downtown Hanover) - Offer abundant parking for parents, staff and visitors (current location has metered parking) - Contain an outdoor play space (none at existing location) - Allow for additional play therapy areas and sensory rooms - Provide additional staff offices

Stacey White is a graduate of Towson University and holds a current certification in Secondary Education.

She lives in Hanover along with her husband, Scott, and their 4 sons.

White was an office manager for a real estate company and therein gained knowledge and experience as well as a love for helping people find the home of their dreams. She is very involved with her church, teaches classes, serves on several committees, and helps with Changing Lives Shelter in Hanover. Amy Walker is a Hanover Native and graduated from Hanover High School. She is a certified Cosmetologist, a stylist for 10 years, and has a high level of dedication to clients.

Re-Use It Program Provides Assistive Equipment to Locals in Need Service Coordination of South Central Pennsylvania, Inc. (SCSCPA) recently launched Re-Use It, a program designed to provide reconditioned medical equipment, assistive technology and medical supplies to individuals of all ages with physical disabilities.

SCSCPA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to coordinating services for adults with disabilities. The SCSCPA staff helps participants evaluate and select services that will allow individuals to maintain a high level of independence in their own homes.

With a participant-centered approach, SCSCPA places a strong emphasis on health and safety, freedom of choice, and satisfaction in service delivery.

The recent creation of the Re-Use It program is an example of the SCSCPA’s focus on individuals in need in the local

community. The Re-Use It program’s goal is to provide equipment for individuals who would otherwise not have the means to obtain devices meant to increase their levels of independence and safety at home.

Through donations of items such as walkers, manual wheelchairs and assistive devices for hearing or vision loss, SCSCPA hopes to consistently fulfill the needs of those with disabilities. All of the equipment is free to those in need.

The Re-Use It program is funded in part through a grant from Pennsylvania’s Initiative on Assistive Technology, the Commonwealth’s Assistive Technology Act Program at the Institute on Disabilities, Temple University, funded through a grant from the Administration on Community Living, United States Department of Health and Human Services. The program is also partially funded by the Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation.

The list of available equipment is updated weekly and can be found on the SCSCPA’s website. Available items are divided into categories, including mobility devices, transfer devices and devices to assist with acts of daily living. Donations of medical equipment and assistive technology are accepted by appointment and may be tax deductible.

Art Downtown Unveils 2017 Schedule

2017 will be another full year for the Hanover Area Arts Guild. The gallery calendar for Art Downtown, which the Arts Guild operates in downtown Hanover, is varied — from its annual school show to an exhibit featuring recycled art.

On March 1, the 36th Annual School Art Show will fill Art Downtown with the best of the region’s young art talent. Middle and high school students submit their work through their teachers who pick the best of the best. Work includes 3-D, ceramics, oils, pastels and everything in-between.

The student shows, the continuing monthly Art Bank (which allows members and the community to use its art resources) and the annual scholarship presentation, are part of the Art Guild’s ongoing efforts to support art education in the community.

June 17 – Chalk it Up and Spring Sip & Stroll – downtown Chalk Art festival, part of Hanover’s Art Weekend, helps us feature so many local artists through sidewalk chalk art. “The Hanover, Pennsylvania, Bucket List” has arrived!

Subtitled “100 Ways to Have a Real Hanover Experience,” the book is co-authored by Georgia C. Simpson, Lisa Kane, Justine Kilkelly Trucksess and Ann E. Diviney.

Created as a labor of love by the book’s co-authors, proceeds from the sales of this book will go to the Friends of Guthrie Memorial Library, Hanover’s local library, which supports important programs and services for the library.

Ever since the 2007 comedy film “The Bucket List,” people have been compiling lists of things they want to do before they die (even if they plan to live a long time). This Hanover version will appeal to visitors and longtime residents alike -- to the young, the old and the in-between.

Have you eaten that gutbuster? Check. Have you seen the newly restored Gettysburg Electric Map? Check. Have you ever been fired up with tons of chili? Check.

You’ll find things that are obvious Hanover favorites, as well as things that are not so obvious. A handy checklist in the back can be used to keep track of your adventures.
