Membership Minute Did you know you can post jobs, events and more on the Chamber website? As a member, you have the benefit of a ChamberMaster log in, which allows members to access many features without having to pick up the phone.

Many businesses already utilize these membership features by posting current job openings within their companies.

To create a job posting, log into your member account and click “Add a New Job Posting” under the Jobs tab on the left hand side of ChamberMaster. Once the posting is approved by a member of the Chamber staff, your listing will be visible on the Chamber website.

Another useful feature is posting your events to the Community Calendar. Just log in to your ChamberMaster account and go to the left hand side of the screen and click on the “Events” tab. You simply select the date for the event and input the time, location, description and additional details, if any. Again, once the event is approved by a staff member it will be visible on the Chamber website.

The Chamber website gets about 125k visits per month, offering great exposure for your upcoming event or job opening! Anyone

who visits the website will be able to access both the community calendar and the community job postings at any time.

Chamber Welcomes Gaskins to Board Please join the Hanover Chamber in welcoming Mike Gaskins to the Chamber Board of Directors!

Gaskins is the Interim President and CEO of Hanover Hospital as of July 2015 but has been with the hospital since May 2011. He has held many financial leadership roles throughout his 27 years of healthcare experience. Gaskins holds a degree in accounting from St. Bonaventure University.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and a member of Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).

Gaskins is married and has three children.

He currently resides in Maryland.

He is a certified public accountant and a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Elder has been with RLH since her internship in May 2012. She has experience in tax preparation services for individuals, partnership, and corporations with a specialty in nonprofit reportings. She also has a great amount of experience in many facets of accounting including audit, review, and compilation services for nonprofit, governmental, and for profit clients. Elder is an alumna of Shippensburg University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting and Personal Financial Planning as well as a Masters Degree in Business Administration.

Steven D. Lubart, CPA has been named the 2015 recipient of the Edward M. Messner Inspiring Business Award by the West Shore Chamber of Commerce.

Lubart has over 19 years of experience with SEK&Co and is the Member-in-Charge of the firm’s Camp Hill office. He assists individuals and small businesses with accounting, consulting, and tax services, as well as QuickBooks consultations. He is involved in numerous professional organizations and is actively involved in his community.

HB McClure Recognized Nationally

HB McClure Company was named runner-up (Northeast Region) in Fujitsu General America’s Halcyon Contest for HB McClure’s HVAC work aboard the Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat.

After successfully completing this work, HB McClure submitted the project to the contest, which is open to HVAC contractors and distributors nationwide who have provided solutions to unique heating and cooling problems with ductless mini systems.

The Pride of the Susquehanna was constructed in 1988 and had its original HVAC system, which was undersized and performed inadequately. HB McClure was called on to install a comfortable HVAC system with minimal impact to the boat’s existing aesthetics. By installing a Fujitsu ductless system with wireless remote, HB McClure’s team was able to complete the project on time and within budget with no disturbances to the boat’s structure.

Hanover Barbershop Chorus Offers Singing Valentines

Surprise your sweetheart with a unique and memorable gift this Valentines’ Day, brought to you by the Hanover Barbershop Chorus! For just $40, the chorus will send a Barbershop Members of the Hanover Barbershop Chorus serenade Quartet, Hanover Chamber members during the November Eyedistinctively Opener Breakfast. attired in white tuxedos, to any location in the Hanover-Adams area where they will serenade your spouse, favorite partner, friend, employee or employer and present them with a rose.

The Hanover Barbershop Chorus is a member of the Barbershop Harmony Society, an international organization of male a cappella singers numbering over 25,000 men and registered in over 600 chapters throughout the United States and Canada. The chorus, first chartered in 1968, has been serving the Hanover and surrounding communities through their singing ever since.

Throughout the year, the group offers their talent to churches and other non-profits throughout the region.

Currently, the group boasts 37 active members, though they are always on the lookout for new members. The chorus meets Mondays at 7:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Homewood Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Avenue, Hanover. Any male from 9 to 99 is welcome; enter through the front door and just ask the receptionist to point you to the ‘Barbershoppers’!

Roller Printing Co. was recently purchased by employees Holly Miller, Kevin Tasto and Randy Smith. The business was established in 1947, and has remained a family-owned business until Oct. 1, 2015 when it was purchased from previous owner James Roller by Miller, Tasto and Smith. Together, the new owners have a combined 70 years of service with Roller Printing.

Roller Printing started as a basic commercial printer, and over the years has added flexographic printing (multicolored continuous pressure sensitive labels on rolls for the food industry and industrial use) and full color capabilities. In addition, Roller Printing has an in-house graphic design department.

Valentine’s Day sing outs are just one of the group’s key singing events. Each year the chorus presents their annual show at the Hanover High School, usually in late September. Members of the group search hard for an award winning chorus or Barbershop Quartet to be the guest performer at this event.

“While tickets are sold for the performance, the chorus looks to the business community to purchase ads in our show program to allow us to engage the best in Barbershop talent we can find and afford,” said chorus member Ed Maxwell. “We ask that you consider including us in your annual giving budget. We expect to begin our ad drive during the month of July.”

Multicultural Day, Bull & Oyster Roast Scheduled at Library The Guthrie Memorial Library is excited to announce two events scheduled for March.

The first is Multicultural Day on Sat., March 12, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm. Entertainment will include Story time, an African Fashion Show, a Piñata, Coloring Contest and the Hanover High School Steel Drum Band. Angola, Argentina, Cameroon, China, Columbia, France, Ghana, Guatemala, India, Ireland, Italy, Mexican, Peru, Vietnam and Zimbabwe are just some of the countries that will be represented. A fun and educational display will be on exhibit for each country throughout the library. Food samples will also be available.

The next exciting event is the first-ever Bull & Oyster Roast.

This will take place Sat., March 19, from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm in the John & Joan Bare Center of the library. Cost is $50 a person, which includes food and drink. On the menu is Pit Beef & Ham, Raw & Fried Oysters, Fried Chicken, Italian Sausage with Peppers/Onions, Maryland Crab Soup, Mashed Potatoes & Gravy, Green Beans, Cole Slaw, Bread/Rolls, Dessert, Beer, Soda, Coffee and Water. Get a group of friends together for a fun night out!

Tickets will be available at the Adult desk of the library. Must be 21 to attend this event.

Business Program Excites Local Students There is an exciting summer program that for nearly four decades has been exciting the imaginations of high school students throughout Pennsylvania about the world of business and private enterprise.

That program, Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week (PFEW), will be marking its 38th storied year this July and August.

Members of PFEW 2015 team LevaSkate prepare PFEW was founded for their Stockholders’ “Annual Meeting”. specifically to teach rising high school juniors and seniors about the American private enterprise system and what it means to our country. Starting with an initial class of fewer than 100 students for a single oneweek session in 1979, PFEW now annually holds five sessions in July and August, four on the campus of Lycoming College in Williamsport and, a fifth on the campus of Pennsylvania College of Technology, both located in Williamsport, PA. The focus of each session is to group the participants (strangers at first) into “management teams” of junior executives who have inherited imaginary “companies.” These teams, under the guiding

hands of “executives-on-loan” called Company Advisors, operate their firms for a computer simulated three-year period of time.

They work with balance sheets, statements of income, market share surveys, etc., etc., and must also react to a variety of external factors as well. Sound familiar?

The Chamber is proud to support PFEW and encourages our local companies and civic organizations to provide sponsorship for our students and, if possible, volunteers for the sessions. Every student attends PFEW on a fully tax-deductible $575 scholarship (the actual value of the scholarship is about $1,500) which is provided by a local firm. Each student wears the name of their sponsor throughout the week and writes them after graduation to report on what they have learned. PFEW is also an approved organization through the PA Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC) program through the Department of Community and Economic Development.

Broadcast Marathon to Benefit Area Homeless WHVR 1280 AM and the Hanover Area Council of Churches are partnering once again to present a broadcast marathon to benefit the council’s Changing Lives Homeless Shelter and the homeless programs operated by Turning Point. The 15th annual Hanover Cares: House the Homeless Marathon runs from noon until 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, and from 6 a.m. until 4 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, on WHVR 1280.

A $6,000 goal has been set for the 18hour marathon. Donations will be used to provide shelter for our community’s homeless throughout the year and to provide continuing support and services through the Hanover Area Council of Churches and Turning Point. The marathon is linked to Valentine’s Day by providing donors commemorative cards in honor of their loved ones. These cards can then be inserted into traditional Valentine’s Day

A Multiphasic Blood Screening will be co-sponsored by Hanover Hospital and The Rotary Club, on Sat., March 12, from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., at the York Street Medical Center, 400 York Street, Hanover, PA. Registration will open on Feb. 1, 2016.

This low-cost comprehensive multiphasic blood screening can assist your physician in the detection of health problems such as heart disease, kidney or liver disease, some forms of cancer, diabetes, muscle or bone disease, and anemia.

Bucket List for Hanover?

If you read the Central Penn Business Journal on January 11, you may have heard about a bucket list book that’s in the works for Hanover. Thanks to a great idea from Hanover Shoe Farms President, Jim Simpson, Main Street Hanover along with the Chamber, will be creating a bucket list of things to see and do in Hanover. This book will be great not only for visitors learning about what there is to do and see in our community, but residents will love the fun ideas and reminiscing about local favorites and staple events throughout their community. Keep your eyes peeled for more info about this great new project!
