Chamber Recognizes Hanover Area Business Awards The Hanover Area Chamber of Commerce held its Annual Business Awards Ceremony on Thurs., Nov. 3 at Bay City Restaurant. The event was presented by APPI Energy and Hanover Hospital. In addition to naming Educators of the Year, Positive Action Award, Small Business of the Year and Entrepreneur of the Year, the Chamber recognized outgoing Treasurer, Nat Fissel from Smith Elliott Kearns & Co. Fissel served on the Chamber Board of Directors for 6 years, spending 5 of those years as treasurer. Competitors from Ability Prosthetics & Orthotics, Inc., winners of the 2016 Corporate Challenge, were presented with the travelling trophy by last year’s winning team, Stambaugh Ness. Proceeds from the Corporate Challenge benefitted the Chamber’s Workforce Development programs. The Positive Action Award is given to an organization or business that positively contributes to meeting the needs of the Hanover region and work together with community members toward a cooperative vision that suggests ways to manage growth. Based on the tremendous success of the implementation of a Metals and Welding program at the High School in 2014, along with the addition of several new AP course offerings, the district set forth on a new endeavor for the 2016-17 school year, to develop a S.T.E.A.M. Academy. S.T.E.A.M., standing for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics, provides 14 new courses for students to choose, using state of the art equipment and technology, taught in a hands-on, project based learning environment. Awards continued from front page In addition to the small town and rural atmosphere that is at the heart of the regional identity of Hanover, it is also that of progress in the expanding field of business, manufacturing and technology. After the implementation of the Metals and Welding Program, Dr. John Scola continued to meet with local business leaders to gain a greater understanding of the needs in the community and how the district could continue to play an integral role in future development. During these meetings, it was clear that skilled labor in the fields of manufacturing and technology was a need, as well as innovative learning practices for future employees. Within one year, the S.T.E.A.M. Academy came to life. In the first month of the school year, students were designing and developing projects with several local businesses, and collaborating with one another on the programing, design and audio effects for 3D graphics and gaming. Engineering students have already entered a regional competition, and robotics students will compete in a variety of competitions in the spring. The collaboration between students, teachers, business and community leaders has been incredible.
to a 1,450 square foot building in 1985. In 1997, Kirkpatrick incorporated the business and added of an office building. By 2001, sales had continued to grow and the company experienced a growth spurt; KLK Welding became more diversified, increasing staff and adding a structural division, making the business more adept to intricate fabrication. In fall 2002, KLK Welding moved from its original location into the Penn Township Industrial Park, eventually adding an additional location in York. Today, KLK Welding continues to grow, purchasing state of the art fabrication equipment to meet the needs of clients. Kirkpatrick has been an aggressive businessman in recent years, expanding the satellite welding division out of the Hanover area. He was instrumental in starting a school of welding theory, partnering with South Western High School Welding Academy. In addition, Kirkpatrick operates a propane fill station, and takes on national clientele production work.

Event sponsor Jane Seagraves, Business Development Director for APPI Energy, presented the Entrepreneur of the Year award to Ken Kirkpatrick, owner of KLK Welding, Inc. The Entrepreneur of the Year is awarded to a member of the Hanover Chamber whose business has been locally established for at least two ears. The nominee’s business must be reputable, visible and show the effects of entrepreneurial skill in exemplary management and growth, and the nominee must be the individual responsible for the reputation that distinguishes the business among its competitors. After gaining experience in welding at the Bethlehem Shipyard in the early 1980’s, Kirkpatrick started a sole proprietor business out of his pickup truck and a small shed. He eventually expanded

Small businesses, classified as those with no more than 40 full-time employees, play a crucial part in the economy and welfare of the Hanover community. The Small Business of the Year is awarded to the business that best exemplifies sound principles of business success, personnel management, and community leadership and service. Five years ago, Miscreation Brewing Company started as a hobby in Stambaugh’s basement. Two years ago, the owners took a chance on a vacant building on the square, refurbishing the building where Miscreation now stands today. This move made Miscreation a key player in the downtown revitalization movement. Miscreation’s craft beer and brew pub is now a staple in Downtown
Chamber News Hanover, drawing locals and visitors into the heart of Hanover for a frosty pint of Spweach Impwediment, Illumination, Reckless, and countless other fan-favorites. Stambaugh and Mathias have succeeded due to their outside-the-box thinking, while doing what they can to bring people to downtown Hanover. Over the past two years, Miscreation’s staff has expanded, as have their hours; the brew pub is now open 7 days a week. Miscreation Brewing Company takes an active role in many community activities, including involvement with Main Street Hanover, Sip-N-Stroll, Christmas Tree Wars, the YMCA, and Relay for Life.

Hospital Receives RACP Funding On Fri., Oct. 28, Hanover Hospital and its public partner, Hanover Borough, received notice from Senator Rich Alloway (R-33) of a $2 million Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program (RACP) grant from the Governor’s Office of the Budget. The RACP grant was applied for by the Hanover Borough, on behalf of the Hospital, to support the Hospital’s new Cardiac Catheterization Suite. “We’ve waited a long time for this news,” remarked Hanover Hospital CEO, Michael Gaskins. The RACP grant will offset costs associated with the Hospital’s new 11,500-square-foot, cardiac catheterization suite, which provides life-saving procedures for the immediate and surrounding community.

ACNB Bank Celebrates Reopening of Lincoln Square Office ACNB Bank commemorated the reopening of its Lincoln Square Office at a ribbon cutting ceremony held on Wednesday, November 2. The newly-renovated retail banking office lobby, situated at 16 Lincoln Square in Gettysburg, was relocated to the Bank’s original historic site of founding on Lincoln Square in 1857. “ACNB Bank has renewed its commitment to Historic Downtown Gettysburg by creating a retail office interior that emphasizes the historical significance of the building, while offering customers a fresh, new and inviting environment to conduct banking business. We’re privileged to know the current Lincoln Square building has welcomed Bank customers since completion of its construction in 1908,” said Thomas A. Ritter, ACNB Bank CEO. In conjunction with the office reopening, ACNB Bank contributed $2,000 to the Adams County Historical Society to sponsor the organization’s lecture programs, as well as to support exhibits on display in the Bank’s new lobby which was designed to reflect the era of the 1920s.
Shortly after receiving approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Health to provide Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) services, the Hospital approached the Borough and Senator Alloway and Representative Kate Klunk in search of funding options. All stakeholders immediately recognized the value of the project and signed on to assist. “This new unit will save hundreds of thousands in healthcare costs for patients, and most importantly, it will save lives. There’s nothing more important than the health and safety of our community and this project directly works toward that goal,” commented Senator Rich Alloway (R-33). The Hospital began the Cardiac Catheterization program in a temporary, existing cardiovascular lab on September 8, 2014. The demand for the service almost immediately exceeded projections. As of November 10, 2015, the Hospital had performed 344 PCIs (91 of which were performed on an emergency basis). These statistics helped to demonstrate the need for this service when pursuing funding from the competitive RACP grant program. The suite, which has since been constructed, accommodates two operational cardiac catheterization rooms, with the ability to add another should demand warrant an additional expansion. It also houses sixteen dedicated patient rooms and a minor procedure room. The unit is designed to accommodate pre-procedure preparation and post-procedure care, for inpatient, outpatient and overnight stays. Non-clinical space including, reception, waiting areas and administrative uses, have also been designed within the suite. “We want to thank all who have assisted us in the grant process. The collaborative partnership with the Hanover Borough has been integral to our success. Senator Alloway has been a tremendous advocate and Representative Klunk has demonstrated support from the beginning of the process,” remarked Hanover Hospital Senior Vice President and COO, Michael Hockenberry. The RACP grant will help to offset the significant renovation and equipment expenses for the new cardiac unit, freeing up hospital funds to direct toward other necessary programs. RACP grants are provided by the Honorable Tom Wolf, Governor.
Business Briefs WALKER IS HANOVER’S NEWEST OB-GYN William R. Walker, M.D., an obstetrician and gynecologist, who recently joined the Hanover Hospital Medical Staff. The newest provider at Mountain View OBGYN, he joins Drs. Susan Peck, Andrew Naymick, Linda Neiswender and Sara Clymer. Walker most recently worked as a locum tenens (temporary) physician in Bedford, Wellsboro and Windber, PA and at hospitals in New York. In past years, he was employed by St. Joseph and Lancaster General Hospitals. A board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology, Walker received his medical degree at Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, GA, and served his residency at York Hospital. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics & Gynecologists. BARLEY SNYDER WELCOMES FOUR NEW ATTORNEYS Barley Snyder LLP has announced four new attorney hires due to growth in a number of the firm’s practice areas. Brian A. Korman joined the firm in September as an associate in the firm’s Business and Real Estate practice groups. He is a Lancaster County native and earned his law degree from Elon University School of Law in North Carolina. While in law school, Korman worked as a clerk in the North Carolina Business Court as well as the Office of the Bankruptcy Administrator for the Middle District of North Carolina. At Elon, he served as the editor-in-chief for the Elon Business Law Journal, was the business editor for the Elon Law Review and was named a business fellow at the school. Brian earned his undergraduate degree at Shippensburg University and was a former Barley Snyder summer associate.
Of Counsel Joseph Schalk practices in the Finance & Creditors’ Rights group of Barley Snyder after managing the bankruptcy group of a Philadelphia-based, high-volume mortgage default servicing firm in Harrisburg. He also expanded his practice to include the handling of residential mortgage foreclosures, court-mandated foreclosure diversion programs and bank-owned real estate closings. A former president of the Middle District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Bar Association, Schalk also assisted with the drafting and implementation of foreclosure diversion programs for Lycoming and Cumberland counties as well as the Middle District of Pennsylvania Bankruptcy Court program. He graduated from Temple University’s Beasley School of Law, with an undergraduate degree from St. Joseph’s University in Philadelphia. Of Counsel Indraneela Dixit (photo not available) has practiced law on two different continents and now works as a real estate attorney concentrating on commercial leasing for Barley Snyder. Since immigrating to the United States, she works in commercial real estate deals in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C., areas. Dixit received her original law degree in her native India, is fluent in the Hindi and Marathi languages and earned her American law degree at The George Washington University Law School in 2011. Rita Linguiti (photo not available) worked her entire career as an attorney in the Philadelphia area, where she held a number of positions both at law firms and as an attorney at multi-national companies. She now works in contract review, negotiation and management projects at Barley Snyder. An undergraduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Linguiti received her J.D. at the Widener University School of Law in 1997.

COLUMBIA COTTAGE APPOINTS BRANT DIRECTOR Deena Brant has been named Managing Director at Columbia Cottage Assisted Living in Hanover Brant has been an LPN for over 20 years. She spent most of that time in various long term care settings. Brant joined the team at Columbia Cottage in 2014 as a Resident Services Director. Now she has taken on the position of Managing Director within the Cottage. Brant is busy outside the Cottage, as a wife of 27 years and a mother of two sons. Her younger son is currently in middle school and very involved in sports. Her older son is in the Army stationed in Alaska. DOCEO WELCOMES SNIDER DOCEO Office Solutions has hired Brock T. Snider as a Technology Consultant. Snider will share office solutions to customers in Southern Lancaster County that include copiers & printers, IT services and software. Snider received his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Bloomsburg University. Most recently, he worked at Murray Secures Insurance where he filled the role of Account Executive. Snider is a Southern Lancaster County native. He is actively involved in the Lancaster Young Professionals, holding office of Social Director of for the past two years. Snider also assists in a coaching role with the Solanco Elementary Wrestling Program. Support the Feed-A-Friend Radio Marathon WHVR 1280 AM/ Forever Media’s 31st Annual Hanover Foods Feed-AFriend Marathon, an on-air program to collect food for the hungry in our community, will be held Thurs., Dec. 8 and Fri., Dec. 9, 2016. The goal is to raise 128,000 cans. Leading into the Marathon, New Hope Ministries are partnering with Rocky98.5 FM; stay tuned for details. New Hope Ministries uses the food and financial contributions to support more 2,600 hungry families and individuals in the greater Hanover community during the holidays and throughout the entire year. Businesses, schools, organizations and individuals can support the marathon by organizing a food drive, donating canned and nonperishable food items, making
a financial pledge, and even signingup for an hour on-air to help raise funds. By participating in the FeedA-Friend Marathon, you’ll be helping the needy in our community and earning recognition for your efforts on the radio. In advance, you can pledge a number of items to be donated every hour of the marathon and WHVR air personalities will read your pledge on-air at the beginning of each hour. Please consider supporting the 31st annual Hanover Foods Feed-A-Friend Marathon on WHVR 1280 to help provide food to those who will be hungry this winter and into 2017. Ring in the Holidays with Christmas on Main Street
“Strings of street lights, even stop lights, blink a bright red and green, as the shoppers rush home with their treasures...” The familiar old Bing Crosby tune will come alive in Hanover again this year, as Main Street Hanover prepares for the holiday season. Gather your family and mark the calendar for the exciting annual events in downtown Hanover.
Dressed in Holiday Style
Several local organizations will collaborate again this year in the annual ‘hanging of the greens’. Keep your eyes open during November as the familiar decorations appear on lamp posts throughout downtown and Eisenhower Drive. Downtown, the Hanover Exchange Club, Hanover Rotary, Kiwanis Club, and Lions Club will deck the four quadrants in Center Square with holiday cheer.
This is Santa’s Big Scene
Santa has set up shop in his cabin on the square for the remainder of the holiday season to greet families and children as he has traditionally done for generations. Please see hours, below.
It’s Christmas Time in the City
Remember to pick up your passport for the 3rd Annual Christmas Tree Wars! Many downtown merchants will again be participating in this unique and festive contest. Get your passports at the Chamber Office or any participating location.
City Sidewalks, Busy Sidewalks
Check off your gift list in no time at downtown Hanover shops and retailers. Look for the Downtown Gift Guide for ideas and tips for shopping for those hard to buy for friends and family. Don’t worry about the meters - parking is free all day Friday and Saturday from Nov. 27 through Dec. 19 to encourage shoppers to visit downtown during the holiday season thanks to the Hanover Borough! The traditional Hanover Christmas events bring thousands of participants into downtown for a season of family fun. These events would not be possible without the support of generous donations from the Hanover community. As we approach the upcoming 80th Anniversary of Santa’s Cabin, it is more important than ever that these Christmas traditions continue for the next generation. The 2016/17 class of Leadership Hanover kicked off in October with an orientation and discussion on leadership. In November, the class experienced Education Day, visiting local partners in education. The morning kicked off at Hanover Public School District where the class participated in a discussion with five local superintendents. Following the discussion, the class was provided a tour of Hanover High School’s new S.T.E.A.M. Academy, highlighting the efforts of the district to meet local workforce needs. The class also visited HACC - Gettysburg Campus, where they met with post-secondary institutions including HACC, Shippensburg University, York College of PA and Penn State University - York Campus to discuss trends in post-secondary education.
