Snack Town Fall Fest and Battle of the Bands

We are excited to announce a new event under the Snack Town brand coming to Hanover this September: Introducing the first Snack Town Fall Fest!

Snack Town Fall Fest, presented by Campbell's, and Iron Lion at the Markets at Hanover, and Utz, will take the place of what was previously our annual Snack Town Brewfest. We hope that this rebrand will present an opportunity to the community to partake in an event that is suitable for all ages. Though we are sad to close the chapter on our Brewfest series, we felt that it was time to expand our fall event and appeal to a broader demographic. There will be food, drinks (including beer!), craft vendors, kid and family activities and live music.

We are especially excited to roll out this new event because we have an exicting twist to our usual live music entertainment. We have partnered with

Rocky98.5 and pleased to announce that Snack Town Fall Fest will host Rocky98.5's Battle of the Bands. The Battle of the Bands competition, which has occured in York and Adams County for nearly twenty years, was held at the York Fair in 2023. We are thrilled to bring this longstanding music tradition to our signature event lineup.

Snack Town Fall Fest will debut on September 14, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Keep an eye on our social media accounts and our website at www.snacktownfallfest.com for updates about the event.

Are you interested in having your organization participate as a sponsor for this event? Reach out to Member & Community Relations Manager, Jake, at jtaylor@hanoverchamber.com.

Meet The Board! Lesley Zinn of UPMC

Meet Lesley Zinn of UPMC, one of our Vice Chairs of the board who joined in September 2023.

"I am an Operational Specialist with UPMC. I help to run the daily operations of our Urgent and Express Cares in the South-Central Region.

UPMC has renowned centers of excellence in transplantation, cancer, neurosurgery, psychiatry, rehabilitation, geriatrics, and women’s health. UPMC also has top-ranked hospitals and service lines. U.S. News consistently ranks UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside among the nation’s best hospitals in many specialties and ranks UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh on its Honor Roll of Best Children’s Hospitals. Our close affiliation with the University of Pittsburgh, which has ranked among the top 10 recipients of National Institutes of Health research funding since 1998.

I was excited when I was asked to represent UPMC as a board member. The Hanover Chamber offers many great resources, events, and opportunities for the Hanover Community and I was excited to be apart of that. The Hanover Chamber brings so much value to the local community and economy. The awareness and promotion of new businesses is wonderful. The Chamber brings a sense of support to that new business as well. Everyone has a vested interest in its success. The roundtable discussions, lunch and learns, and various events to help Hanover grow and prosper is another added benefit.

The most impactful aspect of serving on a board, is knowing that you are making a difference for the better and helping to pave the way for the future of the organization.

I love the Hanover Community. I moved to Hanover my freshman year of High School, and I love the small-town feel, and the closeness of the community. This is a great place to raise a family, and with all the new businesses downtown, make Hanover a fun place to live too!

Some of my favorite parts of Hanover are the local small businesses, restaurants, and breweries, Friday Night Lights, and Codorus State Park."

Does Your Business Insurance Earn Dividends?

In today’s economic market, it is good to have stability in an insurance partner. The Hanover Chamber has partnered with Penn National Insurance for nearly 20 years to bring members a comprehensive business insurance program, and also provide the opportunity for member policyholders to earn an annual dividend.

Over the past 20 years, Penn National Insurance (PNI) has announced dividends for the MAP Program. Collectively, program members have received more than $10.7 million in dividends since the program’s inception.

Program Features:

• Dividend is earned on all business lines (excluding Umbrella and bonds). The more coverages you have with Penn National Insurance, the greater your dividend potential.

• Dividends are based on the total of the group’s premium and losses. Even if your business suffers a loss, you can still earn a dividend.

• As the program grows, so does dividend potential.

• Information and services to help reduce losses — the payoff is greater dividend potential.

• Plus, outstanding local claim and customer support service Visit hanoverchamber.com/member-benefits

CAREY LOHRENZ, 1ST FEMALE F14 TOMCAT FIGHTER PILOT, TO BE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT MA'S 118TH ANNUAL EVENT

York, PA – Carey Lohrenz, the First Female F-14 Tomcat Fighter Pilot in the U.S. Navy, and best-selling author will be the keynote speaker for the Manufacturers’ Association’s 118th Annual Event. Her keynote, “Fearless Leadership: Lessons from the Flight Deck” will be the highlight of the 118th Annual Event held on Wednesday May 22nd, at York College’s Waldner Performing Arts Center.

As the first female F-14 Tomcat Fighter Pilot in the U.S. Navy, retired Lieutenant Carey Lohrenz is used to working in fast moving, dynamic environments where inconsistent execution can generate catastrophic results. The challenges Carey faced are also found in business - markets change, customer needs evolve and if you do not adapt quickly, your company is at risk. In her motivating and engaging keynote presentations, Carey shares her fascinating experiences operating in one of the world’s most challenging environments – an aircraft carrier. Mrs. Lohrenz’s knows what it takes to win in one of the highest pressure, extreme environments imaginable: in the cockpit at Mach 2.

“Carey’s ability to connect with an audience, coupled with her knowledge and experience in leading high-performing, diverse teams, has made her highly sought after as a business consultant and leadership speaker”, said Tom Palisin, Executive Director of the Association. “Her experience in the all-male environment of fighter aviation and her ability to pass on the

lessons learned in her career allow her to deliver insight and guidance from a credible platform on women’s leadership issues.”

After graduating from the University of Wisconsin, she attended the Navy’s Aviation Officer Candidate School before starting flight training and her naval career. Lohrenz earned her Naval Aviator Wings of Gold in 1993 and became the first female Naval Aviator in the U.S. Navy to train and fully qualify as fighter pilots in the F-14 Tomcat. Lohrenz began a career as a leadership expert and professional speaker in 1999 and during her private sector career also authored two bestsellers: “Fearless Leadership: High-Performance Lessons from the Flight Deck” and “Span of Control: What to do When You Are Under Pressure, Overwhelmed and Ready to Get What You Really Want.”

The Manufacturers’ Association’s Annual Event, hosted this year at York College’s Waldner Performing Arts Center on May 22nd, will bring together nearly 700 business and community leaders across central Pennsylvania. The Event will also recognize outstanding manufacturers, member companies and individuals for their accomplishments and community contributions during the previous year. Businesses interested in submitting for awards should visit the Association website Annual Meeting page for applications and information.

For information regarding avaliable corporate sponsorships for the 118th Annual Event, visit mascpa.org/ anuualevent, call the Association at 717-843-3891 or email at office@ mascpa.org. Seating is limited. Individual keynote tickets that include the General Reception for the

event will be $100 per guest, with a discounted rate of $85 for U.S. service veterans and active military.

GUTHRIE MEMORIAL LIBRARY AWARDED STATE GRANT

Hanover, Pa. – Keystone Grants for Public Library Facilities were awarded to seventeen libraries in fourteen Pennsylvania counties. Among the recipients is Guthrie Memorial Library in Hanover, which will receive $295,975, according to Rep. Kate Klunk (R-Hanover) and Sen. Kristin Phillips-Hill (R-York).

The Keystone grants help public libraries improve their operations, install equipment, and upgrade security systems, as well as offset construction and rehabilitation costs.

“Guthrie Memorial Library is a keystone in Hanover,” said Klunk. “In addition to offering many great programs for all age groups, libraries provide critical resources and services that keep communities thriving. I’m happy to see these dollars reinvested locally, so our library can make the improvements required to continue serving the community.”

“For Hanover to be one of a very select few libraries to receive this award shows the impact and value of the library with our local community,” Phillips-Hill said.

“One of the primary goals of staff,” related Hanover Borough Manager Margie Lewis, “is to seek funding that leverages the public’s money (i.e. tax dollars). This funding, achieved with the help and support of Sen. Phillips-Hill and Rep. Kate Klunk, does just that, saving the taxpayer $295,000.”

9 BUSINESS BRIEFS

“We are humbled and grateful for this keystone grant for the library,” added Library Director Lizzy Baldwin. “The funding will enable us to upgrade our HVAC system, ensuring that the library is a safe and comfortable place for our community.”

The Department of Education, through the Office of Commonwealth Libraries, Bureau of Library Development, administers the public library portion of this program which is funded from a portion of the state’s realty transfer tax.

Grants pay up to 50 percent of eligible costs in planning, acquisition, construction, and rehabilitation of public libraries. Examples of fundable projects include but are not limited to: ADA upgrades, roof improvements, replacement windows, energy efficiency upgrades to HVAC systems, facility expansion, and new construction.

UPMC SURGEONS PERFORM ADVANCED HIPEC PROCEDURE

Harrisburg, Pa. (February 22, 2024)

— The team at UPMC Central PA Surgical Oncology has performed one of the most innovative procedures for advanced, metastatic cancer of the abdomen. Hyperthermic

intraperitoneal chemoperfusion or HIPEC is a type of advanced cancer therapy that requires skilled surgical oncologists and is only performed at leading cancer centers.

“We’re very excited to expand our surgical oncology services and bring this advanced level of cancer care to this region and our patients,”

Kyo Chu, M.D., director of Surgical Oncology for UPMC in Central Pa., said. “This is another example of how we can offer our patients advanced cancer care close to home.”

The HIPEC surgery is an advanced two-step procedure that surgically removes cancerous tumors and then applies heated chemotherapy drugs directly inside the abdomen to eliminate remaining cancer cells. This procedure can improve long-term outcomes for patients, has greater effectiveness at killing cancer cells in the abdomen, and provides fewer side-effects compared to traditional chemotherapy due to the targeted treatment.

UPMC Central PA Surgical Oncology’s first HIPEC procedure was performed at UPMC West Shore by Samer AlMasri, M.D., assisted by his partner, Chu, as well as Mohammad Haroon Asif Choudry, M.D., a surgical oncologist at UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh. The patient, a 72-year-old man, is recovering well at home.
