Chicago is a city of neighborhoods, each with its own character, and this diversity contributes to the “soul” of the city. This design captures the soul of Chicago by blending the North Side’s tranquility, the West Side’s community spirit, and the Loop’s professional energy.
Inspired by the North Side, focus-oriented spaces offer peaceful environments for concentration, balance, and individuality. Drawing from the West Side, collaborationcentric zones are vibrant and art-filled, encouraging interaction and creativity. Lastly, the Loop’s sophistication shapes customer-centric spaces with sleek, welcoming areas that convey socialization.
By weaving together these distinct characteristics, the design celebrates the soul of Chicago redefining how workplaces can inspire productivity and connection to create an authentic, vibrant, and purpose-driven workspace.

The challenge is to create a workspace that embodies the concept of Soul, fostering an environment that is productive and deeply connected to the individuality, creativity, and well-being of its people. This space must reflect the cultural diversity of Chicago, where distinct neighborhoods such as the West Side, North Side, and Loop influence the design.
The problem lies in balancing the needs for focus, collaboration, and customer engagement while ensuring the space feels inclusive, dynamic, and reflective of the city’s rich diversity. The workspace must honor these cultural identities, embracing the uniqueness of each individual and fostering a collective spirit that supports both personal fulfillment and professional success. By doing so, the space will reflect the essence of Chicago’s diverse communities, encouraging connection, creativity, and innovation within a soulful, adaptable environment.

As urbanization continues and housing costs rise in many regions, there is a growing demand for furniture that optimizes space, particularly in smaller homes, apartments, and condos. With limited living spaces becoming more common, consumers are increasingly looking for furniture that not only saves space but also serves multiple functions, providing practical solutions for everyday living.
Multi-functional furniture pieces that combine style with utility are becoming increasingly popular, especially those that help keep homes organized. Entryway sets, for example, are in high demand for their ability to offer storage solutions for shoes, coats, bags, and other essentials, while seamlessly blending into the home’s decor.

MEMORY CAFE
03
The design of the café is inspired by the idea of gradual retreat from the chaos of the outside world. As customers move deeper into the space, the design elements subtly shift, becoming more intimate and quiet. The seating areas are arranged in a way that promotes privacy, yet still fosters community and conversation for those who desire it. In this way, the café offers a flexible environment—ideal for both quiet moments of solitude and meaningful social interaction.
The design also aims to evoke the comfort of familiar memories, which can be especially beneficial for individuals with memory-related conditions. The decor and furniture selections are inspired by soft textures and organic shapes, which create a homelike and comforting atmosphere. Plants and natural materials have been incorporated throughout the space to further enhance this sense of serenity and connection with nature.

The Alzheimer's Society, a not-for-profit organization from the United Kingdom, is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association in North America to create Memory Cafes. The main goal of this project is not awareness about Alzheimer's specifically, but rather to encourage all people to engage and cherish their memories. By helping everyone develop a deeper sense of their personal memories, the hope is that it will allow them to build an appreciation for the fragile and fleeting nature of personal memories.
The memory I chose to incorporate into my cafe is from going on a recent trip to Europe. When we arrived in Santorini, Greece after walking around the rest of Europe, I was finally able to take a moment for myself to relax. The goal of the project was to create a feeling of finally being able to relax and escape from everyday life.

This view highlights the vertical elements that create a dynamic connection between the ground floor and the mezzanine. The design features a staircase extending seamlessly to the ceiling, emphasizing vertical continuity, while a built-in seating element anchors the left side of the space. Additionally, exterior tubing elements span the full height of the coffee shop, adding a cohesive architectural rhythm and enhancing the overall sense of verticality.

The fundamental purpose of wine consumption is for enjoyment. Wine is a hedonistic beverage and there are deep emotional connections between consumers and wine, and it is usually imbibed in social settings. In tasting, the perceptual-sensory experience (sight, smell, taste) results in a combination of emotions.
Create an experience evoking different emotions for the visitors as they journey through the space, leaving a wonderful lasting impression, just like the finish of a fine wine. The design solution correlates the process of tasting wine with our emotions creating spaces that stimulate visitors’ emotions. Creating an immersive experience for the visitors that helps them to bond with the winery and the wine tasting process.

The project involves the design of a winery tasting room, meeting and dining facility, and retail space situated in Sonoma County, California. This facility will be housed in two buildings on the winery site, which will be renovated to meet the specific program requirements of the project.
To create a space that enhances the visitor experience, we will conduct comprehensive research into the culture of Wine Country, exploring how the experience of wine tasting can differ from one area to another. Understanding the evolution of the California wine industry is crucial, as it has undergone significant changes throughout its history. We will examine how different regions within the state distinguish themselves through unique varietals, wine making techniques, and cultural narratives.

COLLECTORS COFFEE TABLE
05
The coffee table design seeks to embody harmony and balance in its form and function. Drawing inspiration from the delicate interplay of opposing forces and complementary elements found in nature, this table is a visual representation of the harmonious coexistence of dualities.
Through its carefully crafted structure and thoughtful design details, it encapsulates the notion of balance, both aesthetically and symbolically. Each aspect of the table, from its materials to its proportions, reflects the delicate equilibrium that defines life itself, inviting users to contemplate the beauty of balance in their everyday surroundings.

Coffee tables commonly serve as convenient platforms for serving and enjoying refreshments. These simple pieces of furniture can serve multiple purposes, from hosting social gatherings to accommodating a casual work space. Additionally, coffee tables, like all furniture, possess the capacity to convey a concept or message. Across history, furniture has consistently mirrored and conveyed the prevailing beliefs, principles, and cultural contexts of its creation.
This combined approach of delving into both conceptual aspects and material craftsmanship offers a chance to examine how form intertwines with significance. It also fosters a deeper understanding of materials and strengthens essential woodworking abilities.

Inspired by the transformative power of light, particularly the interplay of light and shadow, which impacts the game of golf and the player’s visual relationship to both the course and the ball.
Create an approachable introduction to the game through design by creating a less intimidating experience. The design solution connects how light can enhance a golfer’s performance on the course and the customer’s experience in the store.
Drawing inspiration from the various areas of a golf course to evoke the same experience in the design of the store through light, which then relates directly to one’s performance.

Integrating the Lang Lighting competition into this project serves as a platform to push the boundaries of lighting design and hone the necessary skills for successful implementation. The competition challenges participants to explore innovative approaches to lighting, both in terms of aesthetic impact and functional effectiveness.
The goal is to not only master technical aspects, such as light placement, intensity, and sustainability, but also to craft a compelling design narrative that aligns with the program’s objectives. By focusing on the use of lighting, the underlying concept, and the related research, participants will develop a comprehensive understanding of how lighting can shape spaces and influence experiences.
