01 SERENE BREWS CAFE MEMORY CAFE

For this project, we were asked to design a memory cafe for the Alzheimer’s Society of the United Kingdom. The cafe is located in downtown Phoenix, Arizona. We were asked to take a personal memory and translate the feeling of that memory into our coffee shop design. The concept of Serene Brews Cafe is to create a peaceful and relaxing space in the heart of Downtown Phoenix where customers can escape the hustle of city life. The goal is to create an environment where customers can find a moment of serenity in the midst of their busy lives. As one moves further into the spaces, the more they can feel that sense of escape. PROJECT BRIEF The Alzheimer's Society, a not-for-profit organization from the United Kingdom, is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association in North America to create Memory Cafes. The main goal of this project is not awareness about Alzheimer's specifically, but rather to encourage all people to engage and cherish their memories. By helping everyone develop a deeper sense of their personal memories, the hope is that it will allow them to build an appreciation for the fragile and fleeting nature of personal memories.

ZONING At the main entrance of the cafe are all the social and busy spaces like the kitchen and order counter. Moving toward the back of the cafe you can find various different seating options. Finally, tucked in the back are the restrooms.

MEMORY BOARD The memory I chose to incorporate into my cafe is from going on a recent trip to Europe. When we arrived in Santorini, Greece after walking around the rest of Europe, I was finally able to take a moment for myself to relax. The goal of the project was to create a feeling of finally being able to relax and escape from everyday life.

02 LINDA HALL LIBRARY THE LINK STAIRS

For this project, we were asked to design stairs for Linda Hall Library in Kansas City, Missouri. The main purpose of the stairs is to create a space for the librarians while also keeping an open and functional space for events and everyday use. This is done by creating a separation of space using the stairs, while also making sure there are still linkage points to each space. The overhang helps define the space designated for use by the librarians. PROGRAMS USED: Rhino, Enscape, Photoshop

03 WILLOW LAKE FARM EMBRACE

For this project, we were asked to design a barn for the Willow Lake Student Farm located in Manhattan, Kansas. The concept of the barn was to make a feeling of embrace by creating a connection between the interior and exterior through color and form. We were able to work with the owner of the farm during this project to get input on what was needed to achieve a functional student farm. PROGRAMS USED: Rhino, Enscape, Photoshop

PROJECT BRIEF Willow Lake Student Farm is a research facility dedicated to the production and education of sustainable horticultural practices, primarily the sustainable production of food sources. The Farm is seeking to update and expand its facilities to become a premier small-medium scale diversified farm demonstration site. The new spaces will support the current activities of the farm as well as create new opportunities for outreach, education, and research.

ZONING There is one main entrance into the barn that leads into the main open space. Towards the back of the building is the more private spaces including the research area and office. There is also an indoor/ outdoor kitchen with outdoor seating as well.

04 VISITOR CENTER HAWAII VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK

For this project, we were asked to pick a National Park and design a visitor center. I chose Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, located on the big island of Hawaii. The concept of the Visitor Center is to create the feeling of being inside the volcano, while also bringing the history of the land and people out to the present-day environment. The Visitor Center is located overlooking the Halemaumau Crater towards the north end of the park. PROGRAMS USED: Rhino, Enscape, Photoshop
