CHARITY HOSPITAL RENOVATION
FIRM: WILLIAMS ARCHITECTS (COLLAB W/ BNIM) STATUS: IN PROGRESS
Adaptive reuse of Charity hospital, which was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina in 2005. The project was a collaboration between BNIM and Williams Architects, which aimed to transform this 1,000,000 sq ft former hospital into a variety of services for the community including housing (work force, faculty/ student, and market-rate), medical training programs, an innovation hub, retail, restaurants, a series of outdoor community and green spaces, and parking - with Tulane University as an anchor tenant. The goal of this project was to bring back the ecoconmic vitality that Charity once brought to this area of the city while preserving the memories and heritage that the hospital holds. On this project my role consisted of a variety of tasks which included area plans, keynote managing, renderings, site measurements, designing a generator platform and enclosure, creating the drawings for the parking, back of house, and loading dock, and assisting with drawings as needed for the Early Learning Center.
