Project Y3 | MMU Birley Campus, Manchester
Located in Hulme - Manchester, the brief asks for additional facility of the Health and Education Department of the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU). The program also seeks to maximise green spaces on-site through the South yard and the roof garden. The roof landscape plays a vital role in delivering the atelier's current theme of "Emergent Biophilic Design", which emphasises the connection between users and the natural elements. The green spaces of the scheme are the connectors that bring the users together, and bringing the project closer to the public in a wider context.

The facade gives view to the exterior, but not as much as the triangular panel facade. Quad panels give good shading but at the same time block quite a lot amount of natural light, making the transition between non-shaded and shaded area sudden. The facade does not allow much view to the exterior, and the interior space does not benefit much from natural lighting. Square panels give good shading but at the same time block quite a lot amount of natural light, making the transition between non-shaded and shaded area sudden. The facade does not allow much view to the exterior, and the interior space does not benefit much from natural lighting. Triangular panels give good interior shading yet allow most view to the exterior. Openings in the facade are adequate for natural light to come in, create visual comfort for the interior. Daylight can reach to the entire width of the corridor so the space can still benefit from natural lighting. Triangular panels iteration gives the least sun hour in winter means most sunlight can reach the interior, efficient for passive heating and daylighting Most hour of sunlight obtained means most solar energy could be generated, and most efficient in preventing the interior space from being overheated when using the diamond shape panels

sculpt studio 2022
Project 2 Y2 | Ancoats, Manchester
Ancoats - Manchester has a rich industrial history, now becomes a friendly neighbourhood with a mix of residential and business areas. Responding to the brief asking for a communal living space for a group of artists, the scheme proposed an apartment building dedicate for sculptors. The concept was to turn the building into an attraction spot - a twisting form that could be seen from almost any directions. Greenery was chosen to be one of the main design driver that acts as both the attracting element, bringing people to the site, and as a connecting element of the three main programmes: residence, public and performaning space.

Project 1 Y2 | Castlefield, Manchester
The concept was to make greenery the main concept, putting it forward as the recognition point of the project. The acute corners of the traingular site was efficiently utilised as additional courtyard, bringing more green space to the scheme, and nourished the neighbourhood with these natural elements. The building acts as a cooking school and a place for planting education and fresh vegetables market. Plants were grown on-site and served as ingredients for the cooking classes and the small canteen of the school. Green spaces maximise the connection between human and nature within the programme, attracting the neighbourhood through an accessible route for the public.
