NEWSLETTER 1-17 FROM HANKEN SCHOOL OF ECONOMICS

Continued Strong Research Performance Right before Christmas, the Academy of Finland published its biannual report on the state of scientific research in Finland, “Tieteen tila 2016”. According to the report, the scientific research output of Finnish universities continues to be stable and slightly above the world average, when normalized for researcher population and worldwide activity in each individual scientific discipline. In the past, Hanken has performed extremely well in bibliometric comparisons of research output. The background material to the Tieteen tila report reveal

that we continue to top the charts among Finnish universities in metrics such as publications in top-ten cited journals in the field. As shown in the figure below, the “top ten index” for Hanken’s “top ten index” is over two, while the world average is normalised to one. Lag times in academic publishing are long, and good performance of today means that we have done something right four-five years ago. In order to continue to excel, a lot of hard work is needed. The brand-new research strategy of Hanken highlights the importance of research clusters, research infrastructure, and most importantly research support services. Continued focus in these areas should help us on our mission to be a leading business school in northern Europe advancing new knowledge in business and society.
