Air Writing
Air Writing is a kinesthetic strategy with visual and auditory components. Picking up and holding pencils adds a tactile component. This strategy allows you to watch the entire class and ensures that all students form their letters correctly. Many Air Writing letter formations are included in the Live Teaching Videos located in the Resource section of the Interactive Digital Teaching Tool.
1. Choose a letter. Use a brightly colored ball to trace the letter in the air in front of your class. 2. Have students hold a pencil correctly in the air. Everyone checks pencil grips. 3. Retrace the letter again with your students.
Materials
• Brightly colored ball
Activity
Note: If you are facing your students, make the letter in relation to you so the letter will be correct from your students’ perspective.
